You can run recorded kindergarten lessons as a YouTube Live broadcast using an encoder, but a single unbroken 24-hour stream is a poor choice if you need a complete YouTube archive: streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Plan shorter sessions, keep a local recording, mark child-directed content as Made for Kids when appropriate, and monitor playback, audio, video, and viewer access.
What a 24/7 recorded stream means in practice
For this setup, “24/7” means making the channel’s program available around the clock. It does not mean YouTube guarantees one uninterrupted broadcast or a complete archive of a stream that runs for a full day. An encoder sends prerecorded video to YouTube Live; your operating plan must account for session endings, reconnections, recording, and checks on the public viewer page.
A recorded kindergarten program might combine lessons, songs, stories, and activity breaks. Use only material you have the rights to broadcast, and make sure the program works without relying on live chat: Made for Kids streams do not have live chat, and other interaction and advertising features are restricted.
Check channel eligibility and prepare the program
Confirm the channel can live stream
YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube also says a creator must be at least 16 to live stream. Check the channel’s current status in YouTube Studio before scheduling or configuring the encoder.

Decide whether the content is Made for Kids
Kindergarten teaching is likely to be child-directed. YouTube identifies early education and subject matter intended for children as relevant factors, alongside such signals as child-directed language, songs, games, activities, and stories. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, set the audience accurately for the stream. Do not leave the decision to YouTube’s automated systems. If the classification is unclear, YouTube says it does not provide legal advice; seek qualified legal guidance for your circumstances.
Made for Kids settings remove live chat and restrict features that can include comments, notifications, Super Chat or Super Stickers, and personalized advertising. Contextual ads may still appear, but neither ad delivery nor revenue is promised. Plan the stream as a one-way learning program rather than an interactive lesson.
Build a rights-cleared playlist
Check every item in the program: lesson recordings, illustrations, read-alouds, songs, sound effects, and third-party footage. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of live content, explicitly including music licensing rights. Check that the license covers the intended live transmission and any archive; possession of a book, song, or video is not by itself a broadcast license. Review the actual rights terms or consult a lawyer where needed.

Choose session lengths that protect the archive
YouTube says it can automatically archive streams under 12 hours, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a YouTube archive matters, schedule separate sessions that finish below that threshold rather than one continuous 24-hour broadcast. This is a practical response to YouTube’s archive guidance, not a platform-mandated restart interval. Very long streams may also have limited or unavailable DVR rewind.

Plan session transitions so the next program is ready before the current one ends. Do not describe the result as uninterrupted unless you have verified that the viewer-facing handoff works as intended. Keep a local recording and check that it is still growing during each session.
Configure YouTube Live and the encoder
Create the stream and set its audience
- Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room. Choose the encoder-based stream workflow for prerecorded playback, then enter the stream details and schedule the session as needed.
- Set the audience. Mark the stream Made for Kids when its content and intended audience warrant that classification. Review the resulting limits on chat and other features before the broadcast.
- Copy the stream key into the encoder. Treat the key as a secret: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to the channel. Store it securely, do not include it in public documents or screenshots, and use YouTube’s controls to replace it if it is exposed.
- Prepare the video source. Load the rights-cleared recording or playlist, confirm that playback advances correctly, and decide how the encoder will behave when the playlist ends or the connection drops.
Use supported encoder settings
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS transport; H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1 video; frame rates up to 60 fps; and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS as the encrypted protocol.

Choose a resolution, frame rate, and bitrate that your encoder and upload connection can sustain reliably. The appropriate bitrate depends on the selected resolution and frame rate; consult YouTube’s current encoder-settings table rather than relying on a stale preset. YouTube transcodes the incoming stream into different output formats, so test the actual result on the viewer page rather than assuming the encoder’s source settings are what every viewer receives.
Commission the broadcast before relying on it
YouTube recommends setting up an encoder stream at least two hours before a planned event, starting the encoder 15 minutes before the scheduled start, and checking the Live Control Room preview. Those are useful commissioning steps for this use case, not a guarantee of continuous service. Test with representative movement, text, and audio; confirm that spoken instructions are clear and that small on-screen details remain readable.

- Confirm the Live Control Room preview shows the intended picture and sound.
- Open the public viewer page on a separate device or browser to check that viewers can access it.
- Verify that the playlist advances and does not stop at the end of a file.
- Check that the local recording is being written and increases in size.
- Watch stream-health messages and listen for missing, distorted, or unexpectedly quiet audio.
- Test the encoder’s reconnect behavior by rehearsing an interruption before unattended operation.
YouTube advises monitoring audio and video quality and checking viewer access and archive integrity. The playback, local-file, and reconnection checks above are practical operating checks; YouTube’s cited guidance does not prescribe a particular watchdog or recovery system.

Operate, monitor, and recover the stream
Assign someone responsibility for checking the broadcast even when the content itself is prerecorded. At startup, verify the preview and viewer page. During operation, check stream health, playback position, audio, and the local recording at intervals appropriate to your program. At each planned session boundary, confirm that the next session starts and the public page is available.
If the encoder disconnects, use its status and YouTube’s Live Control Room messages to identify whether the problem is the encoder, network connection, or stream configuration. Restore the connection, confirm that the preview returns, and then verify the viewer-facing stream. Do not assume that a reconnect repaired a gap in the YouTube archive; inspect the archive and local recording separately.
Protect originality and handle monetization separately
YouTube’s monetization policy applies to live streams. It says monetized content should be the creator’s original work and not mass-produced, generic, repetitive, or manipulative. On July 15, 2025, YouTube clarified that its “repetitious content” label had been renamed “inauthentic content” and that mass-produced or repetitive content is included. This does not mean every looped stream is automatically ineligible; eligibility depends on the channel and content review.
