Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →You can run a looping ocean-waves broadcast from a low-power mini PC by playing locally stored video and audio in OBS, encoding the scene, and sending it to YouTube over a stable internet connection. The PC must stay powered and connected, and it needs enough capacity for the exact media, output settings, and encoder you choose. Set up YouTube live streaming before launch, test a full playback loop and stream, and plan for interruptions and YouTube’s archive limit.
Before you build the stream
Enable YouTube live streaming
Use a verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days. If live streaming has not been enabled on the channel before, activation can take up to 24 hours, so complete this step well ahead of launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
Clear rights to the video and audio
Use footage and sound you own or are licensed to use for the intended purpose. Check specifically whether the license permits continuous live streaming, monetization if applicable, looping, and distribution in the countries where viewers may watch. Keep a copy of the license or other rights evidence. Do not assume that a recording labeled “ocean sounds” or “free” is cleared for a monetized 24/7 broadcast. YouTube’s copyright guidance explains creators’ responsibility to respect audio and video rights.
Choose and prepare the mini PC
There is no single mini PC specification that guarantees a reliable 24/7 OBS stream. The system must decode the source media, compose the scene, and encode the selected output continuously while staying cool and connected. Test the exact computer with the intended video, audio, resolution, frame rate, encoder, and bitrate; a spec-sheet capability by itself does not establish reliable long-run performance.

Prefer a supported hardware encoder when it performs well enough
A hardware encoder can move encoding work away from the CPU, but availability depends on the processor, graphics hardware, operating system, and OBS configuration. OBS documents Intel Quick Sync support on Windows and Linux for compatible integrated graphics. Its guidance recommends Haswell-generation Intel Core processors or newer for Quick Sync because earlier generations can produce lower image quality at the same bitrate. This is compatibility guidance, not a performance guarantee for every mini PC. Compare the output quality and stability you get at your chosen settings.
OBS’s hardware encoding documentation describes the trade-off: hardware encoders can reduce CPU load, while encoder quality varies by generation and implementation. If hardware encoding is unavailable or looks inadequate, test software encoding at a lower output load rather than assuming the system can sustain the target.
Build a looping scene in OBS
- Install and open OBS Studio. Create a scene for the broadcast so its sources and output settings are easy to inspect.
- Add the ocean video. In the Sources panel, select + and add a Media Source. Select the local video file and enable Loop so playback restarts when it reaches the end. OBS supports common video and audio formats; check its Media Sources guide if a file does not load.
- Set up audio deliberately. If the ocean sound is already included in the video, avoid adding a second copy of the same audio. If using a separate audio file, add it as a media source and enable its loop option as appropriate. Watch and listen through the end-to-start transition: look for a black frame, abrupt visual jump, silence, click, or audio/video drift.
- Check the scene at the intended output size. Confirm the video fills the canvas as intended and that no source is muted, hidden, or cropped unexpectedly. Watch a representative section and a complete loop point before relying on it live.
Set YouTube output and stream settings
Create the broadcast and protect its key
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and open its stream settings.
- Copy the server URL and stream key into OBS under Settings > Stream, choosing the YouTube service or the appropriate custom server option if needed.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube treats it like a password: anyone with it may be able to send video to your channel. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Use RTMPS for normal ingest when available. It encrypts the connection between the encoder and YouTube. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance covers stream keys and connection setup.
Choose output settings for the actual connection
In OBS, configure video resolution and frame rate, then set the encoder and bitrate in Settings > Output. YouTube’s recommended settings depend on the output resolution and frame rate, so use its current live encoder settings table rather than selecting a bitrate simply because the mini PC can produce it. For general encoder configuration, YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio.
- Resolution and frame rate: choose an output you can sustain and that suits the source. Upscaling a smaller ocean video does not add detail, while higher output settings increase encoding and upload demands.
- Video bitrate: keep it within YouTube’s recommended range for the chosen resolution and frame rate, then verify the connection has additional upload capacity.
- Keyframes: set the interval to two seconds, in line with YouTube’s general encoder recommendation.
- Audio: use AAC or MP3 and choose an audio bitrate supported by YouTube’s current guidance.
- Encoder: test the hardware encoder available on your system, or software encoding if needed. Watch for encoder overload, dropped frames, or unacceptable image quality.
RTMPS is the straightforward choice for a typical OBS setup. YouTube also supports HLS ingest under separate requirements, including a rolling playlist and transport-stream segments from one to four seconds; HLS has higher latency than RTMP. For a non-interactive ambience broadcast, latency is usually less important than a stable, correctly configured feed. Use HLS only if your encoder supports it and you configure it to YouTube’s HLS ingest requirements.

Make sure the internet connection can carry the stream
Check sustained upload speed under realistic network use, not just download speed or a brief best-case test. YouTube recommends upload capacity at least 20% above the stream bitrate and warns that network disruptions can break a stream. Leave more margin if other people or devices share the connection, or if upload use varies during the day. A wired Ethernet connection is a practical choice when available, and avoiding competing large uploads can reduce avoidable strain.
- Choose the intended OBS bitrate using YouTube’s settings guidance.
- Measure outbound upload while the network is being used in a representative way.
- Confirm that available sustained upload exceeds the stream bitrate by YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom.
- Start a test broadcast and inspect YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room preview and stream health before making the stream public.
Follow YouTube’s streaming tips to test and monitor the encoder feed. A speed test cannot prove that a connection will never drop; the live test reveals issues such as unstable delivery, missing audio, or the wrong scene.
Plan for uptime and YouTube archives
A 24/7 broadcast depends on more than OBS: the mini PC must keep running, the media must continue playing, and the internet connection must remain usable. Arrange a way to notice if OBS stops sending, the PC reboots, or the network fails. Check the stream after updates or configuration changes, and confirm the loop continues after the source file reaches its end.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume one uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast will yield a complete archive. If a full replay matters, plan periodic stream restarts that keep each broadcast under 12 hours, or use a separate recording workflow and verify that it captures what you need. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Live streaming is not available in YouTube Studio
Confirm the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days. If this is the first enablement, allow up to 24 hours and check the channel again afterward.
OBS connects, but the preview is black or frozen
Check that the media source points to the correct local file and that the file plays in OBS. Confirm the source is visible in the scene and is not obscured by another source. If the mini PC cannot decode the file smoothly, test a more suitable source format or lower output load, then watch the full loop again.
The picture stutters or OBS reports dropped frames
Distinguish network delivery problems from encoding overload by checking OBS statistics and YouTube stream health. For network strain, reduce bitrate or output demands and retest with more upload headroom. For encoding strain, try a supported hardware encoder or reduce resolution or frame rate; then confirm image quality and stability in a test stream.

Audio is missing, doubled, or breaks at the loop point
Check source and OBS audio meters, mute unintended duplicates, and verify whether the audio is embedded in the video or comes from a separate file. Listen through the exact restart transition; edit or replace the source if it has a gap or click that OBS’s loop cannot avoid.
The stream stops after an internet interruption or PC restart
Check the network and OBS connection state, restart the broadcast if necessary, and verify the preview before leaving it unattended. YouTube warns that connection disruptions can break a stream; do not assume the encoder will recover from every failure without intervention.
The live video works, but there is no complete 24-hour replay
This is consistent with YouTube’s automatic archive guidance for streams under 12 hours. Use planned shorter broadcasts or a separate recording process if retaining the complete program is important.
