The computer still has to play the video, encode the feed and upload it continuously; “without OBS” changes the software, not the work or the need for the computer, power and home internet to remain available. If you want a prerecorded loop to keep running while your computer is off, a cloud playlist service is an alternative.
What you need for a local, non-OBS stream
For a spare-computer setup, choose an encoder other than OBS that supports your video source and YouTube’s live-stream connection. The computer will read the nature footage, encode it and send it to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a server URL and stream key from Live Control Room.
- A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- A prerecorded nature video or playlist, with rights cleared for livestreaming and any archive.
- A non-OBS encoder compatible with your video and YouTube’s current requirements.
- A spare computer, stable power and reliable upload connectivity for the entire broadcast.
YouTube’s setup steps and eligibility requirements are described in YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance. This guide does not establish a particular encoder’s settings or command line, so use the chosen encoder’s current documentation and YouTube’s current technical recommendations rather than relying on an unverified preset.
Set up the stream in YouTube and your encoder
- Confirm channel eligibility. Verify the channel and check that it has no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days.
- Create or select a live stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream or select the one you intend to use. Follow YouTube’s current interface prompts.
- Copy the connection details. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for the stream. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish it or share it. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Configure the non-OBS encoder. Select the nature video or playlist as the source, then enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in the encoder’s YouTube or custom-server fields. Set video and audio options according to that encoder’s documentation and YouTube’s current recommendations.
- Start the encoder and check the preview. Start sending the feed, then verify that Live Control Room receives it and that the preview looks and sounds right before going live.
- Start the broadcast and verify it remotely. Once YouTube indicates the stream is ready, start the live broadcast. Check it from another device so you can confirm the public playback rather than only the encoder’s local preview.
YouTube explains the stream URL and key workflow in its official setup instructions. Interface labels can change; use the current Live Control Room prompts if they differ from these general steps.

Keep the spare computer running unattended
For a local 24/7 stream, the computer remains responsible for playback, encoding and upload. Configure it not to sleep while streaming, connect it to dependable power, and avoid planned restarts or updates that could interrupt the encoder. The home internet connection must also remain available. Check the stream periodically from another device; if local power, the computer or the home uplink fails, the local stream can stop.
A UPS for the computer and router may help bridge some power interruptions, but runtime depends on the actual equipment and battery capacity; it is not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming. Keep the encoder’s recovery behavior and restart procedure in mind, and know how to reconnect the stream if the machine or network drops.

Local computer or hosted cloud playlist?
StreamNeo is the first cloud option to consider for a prerecorded YouTube loop: it keeps uploaded videos playing from the cloud, with any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
| Consideration | Spare computer with another encoder | Hosted cloud playlist |
|---|---|---|
| Where playback and delivery run | On your computer, which also encodes and uploads the feed. | On the provider’s servers after you upload the prerecorded video. |
| What must stay available | The computer, power and home internet connection. | The uploaded source and provider service; your home computer can be off. |
| Live camera or real-time scene changes | Possible if the selected encoder supports the required sources and scenes. | A prerecorded-file loop does not provide live camera input or real-time scene switching. |
| Cost | May use existing hardware, but power and internet costs remain; the exact cost depends on your setup. | A service fee applies; check the provider’s current terms and availability. |
| Recovery | Depends on the local software, computer and network. | StreamNeo says it monitors and attempts automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream; this is the provider’s claim, not an independent test. |
Choose local encoding if you need control of a compatible encoder or live inputs and are prepared to keep the machine and connection running. A hosted playlist is a better fit when the source is prerecorded and you want the computer out of the continuous playback path. Neither approach removes the need to check YouTube’s policies or the service’s current terms.

Or let it run in the cloud
For a prerecorded nature loop, StreamNeo’s three-step workflow is: upload your video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. It runs the loop in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. StreamNeo plays the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and says it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; the monthly option is $9.99 per month. Plans offer the same product and differ by billing length; check the current pricing page for terms. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams of uploaded videos, not live camera feeds. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide.

YouTube archive, copyright and monetization rules
Plan around the archive limit
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not assume a 24/7 broadcast will remain available in full as a replay. If you need an archive, plan a separate recording or shorter segments and confirm YouTube’s current archive behavior. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Clear rights for the footage and sound
You need rights for the video and every audible element, including music and nature recordings, both for the livestream and any later archive. YouTube’s livestream terms state: “You represent and warrant that You have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Read the YouTube Livestream terms and conditions and use the copyright safety checklist before broadcasting. Calling audio “ambient” or using it as background does not itself clear the rights.
Do not treat continuous runtime as monetization eligibility
YouTube’s monetization policy includes repetitive or mass-produced material in its “inauthentic content” category, which is ineligible for monetization and applies to live streams. A loop is not automatically disqualified solely because it repeats, but uninterrupted runtime alone does not establish eligibility. Make the channel’s content original and useful, and review YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Troubleshoot a stream that will not stay live
- YouTube receives no signal: Check that the encoder is running, the stream URL and key are entered correctly, and the computer has internet access. If the key may have been exposed or is wrong, reset or recopy it from Live Control Room and update the encoder.
- The stream stops when unattended: Check sleep and power settings, unexpected restarts or updates, encoder status and the home internet connection. Test playback from another device after reconnecting.
- The preview has no sound or the wrong source: Verify that the encoder is reading the intended file or playlist and that its audio source is enabled. Check the Live Control Room preview before starting the broadcast.
- The archive is missing or incomplete: A stream over 12 hours may not be captured as an archive. Use a separate recording or shorter segments if a replay matters, and verify current YouTube behavior.
- The stream is interrupted by a rights issue: Review the rights for every video and audio element, including music and recorded natural sounds. Replace material you cannot license for the intended use.
Estimate the practical cost before choosing
A spare computer can avoid a streaming-service fee if you already have suitable hardware, but the stream still uses electricity and your home connection, and you take responsibility for monitoring and recovery. A cloud service adds a fee while moving continuous playback off your computer. Compare the actual cost of your local setup with the provider’s current billing terms rather than assuming either option is always cheaper. StreamNeo provides a cloud vs PC cost calculator; its upload-time calculator can help estimate how long a large source file may take to upload.
