You can run a 24/7 lofi YouTube stream on a slow connection, but the encoder’s bitrate must fit the upload speed your connection can sustain—not the peak speed advertised by your ISP. Test the connection, start with a conservative 480p30 H.264 stream, and monitor YouTube’s stream health before leaving it unattended. If you cannot keep an encoder and internet connection running reliably at home, a cloud service such as StreamNeo is another option.
Choose settings from stable upload speed, not a speed-test peak
Run upload speed tests at different times, including periods when your connection is normally busy. Use a conservative result as your starting point; do not set the stream bitrate to consume all available upload bandwidth. Other devices and applications need capacity too, and a connection that briefly reaches a high speed may not sustain it.

YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and selecting a quality that is reliable for your connection. Its H.264 figures are platform guidance, not guarantees that a connection with the same nominal upload speed will deliver a stable stream. The right setting depends on your measured connection, competing traffic, and the image quality you can accept.
Start with a modest lofi video setting
A mostly static lofi illustration may look acceptable at lower resolution than a scene with frequent motion. Starting at 480p30 is a practical test, not an official YouTube lofi preset. Move up only if repeated tests show stable delivery and the improvement in picture quality is worth the extra bandwidth.

| H.264 output | YouTube-listed minimum | YouTube-recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 360p at 30 fps | 0.4 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
| 480p at 30 fps | 0.4 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s current encoder recommendations, accessed October 3, 2026. The minimum is not a promise of good-looking video or reliable delivery. If your stable upload capacity is below a recommended value, test cautiously at a lower bitrate or resolution and judge the actual stream-health results. Lower resolution or bitrate cannot fix every cause of packet loss, congestion, or an unstable connection.
Configure the encoder and test before going unattended
YouTube’s current guidance supports RTMP or RTMPS ingestion and H.264 video. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds), stereo audio at 128 kbps, and RTMPS for encrypted transport. These are platform settings; your encoder’s exact menus vary.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
- Measure and reserve bandwidth. Test upload speed more than once, then leave headroom for other traffic rather than matching the encoder bitrate to the best speed-test result.
- Set a conservative video profile. Choose H.264 at 30 fps and begin with 480p if the scene is mostly static. Select CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and a video bitrate that your connection can sustain with headroom.
- Set audio and transport. Use stereo audio at 128 kbps and RTMPS where available. Add your YouTube stream key in the encoder’s stream settings; treat it like a password and do not share it publicly.
- Test with representative content. Run the stream with the same audio, visual activity, and other network use expected during the real broadcast. Check YouTube’s live dashboard for stream health before relying on the setup.
- Adjust one setting at a time. If delivery is unstable or frames are dropped, lower the video bitrate first, test again, and reduce resolution if needed. Raise quality only after repeated stable tests.
OBS notes that rising dropped frames can indicate an unstable connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain; lowering video bitrate is one troubleshooting step. Neither YouTube’s figures nor OBS’s advice establishes a universal preset for every network or computer.
Plan for interruptions and long-stream archives
A 24/7 broadcast needs an operating plan as well as a bitrate. Decide how you will detect a dropped connection, restart the encoder, and restore the broadcast. If you need a replay, record locally or make another archive plan: YouTube says a live stream shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while one that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. Splitting a continuous broadcast into shorter sessions does not guarantee that every archive or continuity issue will be avoided.

Clear music rights and understand monetization separately
You need the necessary rights for music and other material in a live stream. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches; a match can cause a placeholder, interruption, or termination. Keep permission records, and if a music rights holder requires it, confirm that the channel has been allowlisted through Content ID before going live.
Copyright permission does not guarantee monetization eligibility. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams, and repetitive or mass-produced material may be ineligible under its inauthentic-content policy. Reused-content review is separate from copyright permission. Original music and visuals, meaningful variation, and distinct value for viewers may reduce policy risk, but no particular outcome is assured. YouTube stated that its clarification placing repetitive or mass-produced material under the inauthentic-content policy took effect July 15, 2025.

Troubleshoot common low-upload problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Dropped frames or unstable stream health | The connection cannot sustain the chosen bitrate, or competing traffic is using upload bandwidth. | Reduce video bitrate, reserve more headroom, and test again during a busy period. |
| Stream looks too soft after lowering settings | The output resolution or bitrate may be too low for the artwork and motion. | Compare 480p30 with 720p30 only after confirming stable upload headroom; keep the lower setting if reliability matters more than added detail. |
| Stream stops or YouTube interrupts it | There may be a connection or encoder interruption, or a third-party content match. | Check the live dashboard and encoder, restore the stream after an outage, and verify music permissions and any required Content ID allowlisting. |
| No complete replay appears | The stream ran longer than 12 hours, so YouTube may not have captured it. | Record a local archive if a replay matters, and do not rely on an automatic archive for a continuous 24/7 broadcast. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If a low or unreliable home upload connection makes continuous encoding difficult, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist streaming to YouTube from the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on; YouTube drops trigger automatic recovery. Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price regardless of quality. The first day is free with no card.
StreamNeo’s monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or its plans, then start your free day. StreamNeo streams uploaded video to YouTube; it does not stream live camera footage.
