The cloud VM still needs a reliable connection, a correctly configured encoder, rights-cleared content, and someone or something to detect failures and restart the stream. A cloud desktop alone does not guarantee uninterrupted broadcasting.
Choose a prerecorded loop or a live temple feed
Prepared playlist or loop
For the simplest setup, assemble a continuous sequence of original or appropriately licensed devotional audio and video files, then send that feed to YouTube Live using an encoder running on the cloud VM. A fixed visual or unobtrusive loop can accompany audio. This is a prerecorded stream, not a live camera broadcast.
Live camera and microphone
A real-time puja or temple feed needs capture equipment and a production workflow in addition to the cloud connection. Get authorization from the temple or venue, and clear everything audible and visible, including music, speech, artwork, and video. No general permission for a particular temple or venue can be assumed.
Check YouTube Live eligibility first
YouTube Help says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. YouTube lists encoder streaming as one of its live-streaming methods. Check the current requirements, including minimum-age and other account rules, before planning a launch: YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.

Set up the cloud workflow
- Prepare the content. Make a continuous playlist or loop from files you own or have permission to use for the intended stream. Check that files play in sequence and that the audio level and visual presentation are consistent.
- Choose a cloud VM. Use an India-region VM if placing the server in India is a requirement for your operation. The location does not itself ensure a stable stream. Compare providers and plans using current provider information; no particular VM size, provider, or cost is established here.
- Install and configure an encoder. Choose a tested operating system and workflow, then install an encoder such as OBS or FFmpeg on the VM. Keep the media files accessible to the encoder and configure the process to restart after a crash or VM reboot.
- Create the YouTube live event. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live event and choose encoder ingestion. YouTube’s interface can change, so follow its current setup guide rather than relying on an old menu path. Treat the stream key as a secret: limit access, do not publish it in scripts or logs that others can read, and replace it if exposed.
- Configure the stream settings. YouTube’s current H.264 encoder guidance recommends 10 Mbps for 1080p30 or 6 Mbps for 720p30, a constant bitrate (CBR), and a 2-second keyframe frequency. It supports RTMP and RTMPS and recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery. These are encoder recommendations, not viewer bandwidth requirements. - Allow for network headroom. Plan sustained outbound capacity above the chosen video bitrate so that short fluctuations do not immediately starve the feed. Keep a lower-resolution fallback ready if the VM’s outbound connection cannot sustain the selected setting.
- Run a private or unlisted pilot. Send a test feed before the public launch. Check audio, picture, playback through a playlist transition, YouTube Studio’s incoming stream health, and reconnection after a controlled interruption.
Choose resolution and bitrate for the content
For a static prayer image or artwork, 720p may be sufficient; use 1080p when the visual detail warrants it and the connection can sustain YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate. YouTube’s recommendations are 6 Mbps at 720p30 and 10 Mbps at 1080p30. They do not establish a universal best setting for every encoder or source. The National Informatics Centre (NIC) separately lists 2–4 Mbps dedicated network bandwidth per stream for its government webcast hired-agency scenario. NIC’s guidance is for Central and State Government institutions, not a general YouTube bitrate recommendation or a service offer to individual creators: NIC Webcast Services (accessed 2026; publication year not displayed).
Clear rights for every part of the stream
Devotional subject matter does not automatically make a recording free to broadcast. YouTube warns: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” YouTube may interrupt or terminate a live stream that matches third-party content. Even when you have a license, the rights owner may need to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist to prevent interruptions. Read YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams.

Before going live, make a rights ledger for each asset. Check the relevant Indian copyright information and obtain permission or license terms that cover the actual uses you plan. A traditional prayer or old lyric does not necessarily make a modern arrangement, performance, recording, or accompanying image free to stream. This checklist is operational guidance, not a legal opinion about a specific work.
- Song or composition and lyrics
- Arrangement and performance
- Sound recording and any video or image
- Permission evidence, countries covered, and license term
- Use in a livestream, any retained archive, and monetization
- Content ID status and whether the relevant owner can allowlist your channel
Keep permission documents accessible. Use YouTube’s dispute process only when your documentation supports your claim. For Indian copyright law information, consult the Copyright Office, Government of India.

Monitor the stream and plan recovery
YouTube recommends testing before a stream and monitoring stream health while it is live; neither the platform nor a cloud VM guarantees continuous operation. For a 24/7 feed, use a monitoring alert or a human check rotation, and keep a written recovery procedure available to the people responsible for the channel.
- Check that the encoder process is running and that YouTube Studio is receiving a healthy feed.
- During the pilot, force a brief interruption and confirm whether the encoder reconnects as expected.
- Document how to restart the encoder and VM, who may access the stream key, and how to respond to YouTube copyright warnings.
- Check current YouTube guidance for livestream archiving and retention if you need to keep a replay; do not assume a 24-hour stream will remain available indefinitely.
Troubleshoot common failures
