To rotate prerecorded videos without ending a YouTube Live broadcast, keep one encoder or hosted playout service sending a continuous feed to the same live stream while its playlist advances. Configure rotation in the encoder or playout layer—not in a YouTube watch-page playlist—and do not stop the encoder or click End Stream between videos.
How video rotation works without ending the broadcast
YouTube Live receives an encoded feed from an encoder. The encoder or hosted playout service supplies the video; its playlist or media source determines what plays next. For a continuous broadcast, that outgoing feed must remain connected as the source changes. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain how to connect and start a feed, but do not provide one universal playlist control for all encoders. YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
A YouTube watch-page playlist is not automatically the playlist being broadcast live. Set the rotation in your playout software or service, and confirm its specific controls before going live.

Set up a continuous video rotation
- Choose a playout method. Use a local encoder that can advance through media files, or a hosted service that explicitly supports continuous playlist playback. The local option depends on the computer, encoder, and network remaining available. Hosted services can run playout remotely, but check their current playlist controls, recovery behavior, limits, data handling, and cost rather than assuming every service works the same way.
- Prepare the videos and playlist. Arrange the files in the desired order and configure the rotation in the playout software. Confirm that you have the rights to stream every video and its audio.
- Connect the encoder in YouTube Studio. In the Live Control Room, create or select the live stream, then copy the server URL and stream key into the encoder. YouTube’s instruction is: “To start streaming, enter your YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder.” Keep the stream key private; anyone who has it may be able to send content to your stream.
- Start the feed and check it before relying on it. Start the encoder, then verify that the Live Control Room preview shows the intended content and that the stream status is healthy. Check that the playlist advances as expected while the encoder remains connected.
- Keep the outgoing feed running between videos. Let the playout source change files without stopping the encoder. Do not click End Stream or stop sending content if the goal is to keep the broadcast active. YouTube says stopping content from the encoder ends the stream.
- Review scheduled-stream behavior. If you use a scheduled broadcast, check its Auto-start and Auto-stop settings. YouTube documents optional automatic start and stop behavior in its Life of a Broadcast guide. An OBS Project community guide warns that scheduled-stream Auto-stop can prevent reconnecting later to continue the same broadcast; interface labels and behavior can change, so check the current OBS and YouTube settings. OBS Project community guide
- Plan for the archive separately. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a longer continuous broadcast will be saved as one complete archive; decide how you will preserve or manage recordings before running beyond that limit. Choose between local and hosted playout
The right choice depends on how much control you want over the files and whether you can keep local equipment available. Available documentation establishes the basic options, not an independent comparison of providers’ reliability or features.

- Compact but Powerful Design: ZowieBox is smaller than a phone, featuring a tally light and LCD screen for streaming status. Capture console gameplay in up to 4K with zero-lag HDMI passthrough, while the built-in video encoder converts video for IP streaming. The IP stream can also be decoded back to a 4K HDMI signal.
- Standalone Game Streaming: Just plug and play—ZowieBox enables PC-free live gaming without affecting gameplay. As an RTMP hardware encoder and HDMI streamer, it delivers stable streaming directly from your source, making it ideal for gaming, live events, and professional broadcasting.
- NDI|HX3 Converter Technology: ZowieBox converts HDMI signals to NDI|HX3/HX2/HX, functioning as an NDI video encoder, or NDI Video Decoder for flexible IP workflows. Certified NDI technology enables low-latency gameplay streaming through OBS/vMix. Note: Encoder and decoder modes cannot run simultaneously; full NDI signals are not supported.
- UVC to HDMI Conversion: Supporting up to 4K@30fps and 1080p@60fps decoding, ZowieBox enables flexible conversion for webcam and video workflows. As a video decoder and HDMI to IP converter, it expands connectivity options for professional video devices. Note: USB capture card functionality is not currently supported.
- All-around Configuration Options: Control ZowieBox through its web UI on a PC, phone, or tablet. Manage connected PTZ cameras, tally light, video/audio, OSD, work mode, streams, network, and system settings. Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.
| Approach | What it offers | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Local encoder | Direct control of the files and playout software; YouTube documents how to connect an encoder to a live stream. | The computer, encoder, and network must stay available. Verify that your chosen software can advance through the files while keeping the outgoing feed active. |
| Hosted playout | A service may run an encoder remotely and loop a playlist. For example, LiveGoLive describes playlist looping and broadcast rotation on its service page; that is a vendor claim, not independent validation. | Confirm current playlist controls, recovery behavior, limits, data handling, and total cost with the provider. Google’s Live Streaming API documentation describes a 24/7 setup where a video feed remains live while separate broadcast resources are started and later completed. This illustrates the distinction between the ongoing feed and broadcast resources, but it is API documentation—not a user-facing guide to setting up a rotating playlist. Understanding Broadcasts and Streams
Troubleshoot a rotation that interrupts the live stream
- The broadcast ends when a video finishes: The encoder may be stopping instead of moving to the next item. Check the playout software’s end-of-file and playlist behavior, and make sure it continues sending a feed between files.
- The preview goes blank or the stream disconnects during a transition: Check whether the encoder loses its media source or stops output while loading the next file. Confirm the transition behavior in the chosen encoder or hosted service, then verify the preview and stream status again.
- You cannot reconnect to the scheduled broadcast: Review Auto-stop and the current scheduled-stream settings in YouTube Studio and your encoder. OBS’s community guide specifically cautions that Auto-stop can prevent a later reconnection to continue that broadcast.
- The wrong video plays: Check the configured playout queue or media source. Do not assume that editing a YouTube watch-page playlist changes the encoder’s outgoing feed.
- The stream runs but no complete archive appears: Check the broadcast duration. YouTube’s automatic archive statement covers streams under 12 hours; longer runs need a separate archive plan.
Keep the content eligible for live streaming
Confirm that you have permission to stream the video, music, and other material in every file. YouTube requires live content to comply with its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, and it may restrict access to livestreaming. Review YouTube’s live-streaming requirements before starting a loop.
