To rotate recorded math lessons as a continuous YouTube Live broadcast, send the lesson files through an encoder or cloud streaming service that outputs a live signal. A YouTube playlist’s Loop control only repeats playback for a viewer; it does not create a livestream. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a server URL and stream key, then sends the encoder’s output to a live event. YouTube’s encoder guide also names software, hardware, and cloud options for prerecorded streams.

What “playlist” means in a 24/7 lesson stream

There are two different kinds of looping. A viewer can use YouTube’s Loop control to repeat an individual video or playlist, but that playback setting does not turn recorded lessons into a live broadcast. To appear live, your lesson files must be played by an encoder or streaming service that sends a continuous signal to YouTube Live.

YouTube describes an encoder this way: “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.” The encoder takes the media and sends it to the live event; the YouTube playlist feature is not the broadcast mechanism. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder and Loop videos or playlists on YouTube.

Choose where the continuous stream will run

The main decision is whether the stream runs on a computer at your location, dedicated hardware, or in the cloud. YouTube’s encoder guide names OBS as software, Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded streaming, and AJA HELO Plus hardware with optional PlayToStream functionality for scheduling prerecorded media. The guide does not establish exact rotation steps for any of them, so confirm queue and repeat controls in the chosen product’s current documentation.

Route Where it runs What YouTube documents Practical consideration
Software encoder, such as OBS A computer you operate OBS is listed as an encoder; exact lesson rotation instructions are not provided in the cited YouTube guide. The computer, power, and network at the streaming location must remain available while it is broadcasting.
Cloud service, such as Gyre Cloud infrastructure YouTube specifically identifies Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos. Check the service’s current instructions, terms, pricing, and rotation controls before committing.
Dedicated hardware, such as AJA HELO Plus A physical encoder at your location YouTube describes it as a standalone H.264 encoder and says optional PlayToStream functionality can schedule prerecorded media to YouTube Live without a computer. This is an optional hardware route. The YouTube description does not say it automatically rotates a YouTube playlist; verify scheduling and sequence behavior with the vendor.

YouTube’s encoder guide is at support.google.com/youtube/answer/2907883. Product pricing and service terms are not established by that guide, so check vendor pages for current details.

Set up the rotating math-lesson broadcast

  1. Prepare the lesson library. Organize the recorded lessons in the order you want them presented. Check that you have permission to stream each lesson and all included audio, graphics, and other material. These are practical preparation steps; YouTube’s cited encoder pages do not prescribe a math-specific file format or rights-review process.
  2. Choose the playback and encoding route. Select a software encoder, dedicated hardware, or cloud service. Confirm in its current documentation that it can play your prerecorded files continuously and repeat or rotate them in the order you need.
  3. Create or schedule the live event. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule a stream. Copy the event’s server URL and stream key into the encoder using that product’s current instructions. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it with viewers. YouTube’s workflow is documented in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
  4. Configure the rotation in the chosen tool. Add the lesson files in sequence, then set the product’s repeat or scheduling behavior. The cited YouTube material does not document exact menus or commands for OBS, Gyre, or AJA, so do not assume their controls are identical; follow the current instructions for the product you use.
  5. Test before making the event public. Start a test stream and inspect the YouTube preview, stream health, picture, and audio. Confirm that viewers can reach the intended live event from your channel or its watch page. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring before relying on a stream for an extended broadcast; see YouTube live streaming tips.
  6. Check the network and leave bandwidth headroom. The available upload bandwidth must accommodate the stream bitrate. YouTube recommends 20% headroom over the combined bitrate of the primary and backup streams. This is a platform recommendation, not a guarantee against interruptions. Network instability can interrupt the feed.
  7. Decide how viewers will find individual lessons. A continuous live event is not the same as publishing each lesson as its own video. Give viewers a clear lesson order and consider separately publishing lessons when they need reliable individual access or navigation.

Plan for archives and rewind on a 24/7 broadcast

Do not assume one uninterrupted 24/7 event will create a convenient, complete recording of every lesson. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its DVR guidance warns that rewind may be limited or unavailable for very long streams beyond 12 hours. For details, consult YouTube’s encoder streaming guidance and YouTube’s DVR help page.

Common problems and practical checks

  • The lesson is not actually live: a viewer’s playlist Loop setting only repeats playback. Send the lesson files through an encoder or cloud streaming service connected to a YouTube Live event.
  • YouTube shows no incoming video: check that the correct event’s server URL and stream key are entered in the encoder, then confirm that the encoder has started sending. If needed, re-copy the event details from YouTube Studio; keep the key private.
  • The stream drops or stalls: check the streaming computer or hardware’s power and network connection, then compare the encoder bitrate with available upload bandwidth. YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom is a planning margin, not a cure for an unstable connection.
  • Lessons play in the wrong order or do not repeat: check the file sequence and repeat or scheduling configuration in the chosen tool’s current documentation. YouTube’s own playlist Loop setting does not control the encoder’s file queue.
  • Viewers cannot rewind to an earlier lesson: very long streams may have limited or unavailable DVR rewind, and a single extended event is not a dependable substitute for separate lesson videos. Check the DVR behavior before telling students to rely on rewind.
  • A lesson contains material you cannot stream: remove or replace that material unless you have the necessary rights. Review music, graphics, and any other included content—not only the math instruction itself.
