Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a local OBS setup, add multiple clips to a VLC Video source, enable Loop Playlist, and test what happens when the list reaches its end. OBS also offers Shuffle Playlist, but its documentation does not promise a fresh shuffle on every pass or guarantee that the next pass starts with a different clip. If you need each clip to play once before any repeats, use a shuffle-bag controller that explicitly provides that behavior.
First, distinguish a viewer’s loop from the live stream
YouTube’s Loop control repeats a video or playlist for an individual viewer in the YouTube player. It does not change the audio and video OBS sends into a live broadcast. For a live stream, playlist rotation must happen in the playout setup that generates the outgoing feed. YouTube’s Live Streaming API likewise distinguishes the stream resource that transmits audio and video from the broadcast resource that represents the event (YouTube Live Streaming API).
So, changing a YouTube player’s loop setting will not fix repetition in an OBS-generated 24/7 broadcast. Configure the playlist in OBS or in another playout system instead. (YouTube Help: Loop videos or playlists)
Set up a looping playlist in OBS
Prepare files and VLC
- Gather video files you have the rights to broadcast and put them in the intended playlist order.
- Install VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC as well.
Add the playlist source
- In OBS, select the scene that should show the playlist.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add VLC Video.
- Populate the source’s playlist with the video files. Use multiple entries; a single-file Media Source is not the playlist-capable source described here.
- Enable Loop Playlist to restart the list after its final item.
- Enable Shuffle Playlist if randomized playback is useful, but do not assume that this option guarantees a new order on every pass or prevents the previous pass’s last file from playing first.
OBS documents playlist items, loop and shuffle controls, and visibility behavior for the VLC Video source (OBS: Media Sources).
#1 Best Overall
- The Google TV Streamer (4K) delivers your favorite entertainment quickly, easily, and personalized to you[1,2]
- HDMI 2.1 cable required (sold separately)
- See movies and TV shows from all your services right from your home screen[2]; and find new things to watch with tailored recommendations for everyone in your home based on their interests and viewing habits
- Watch live TV and access over 800 free channels from Pluto TV, Tubi, and more[3]; if you find an interesting show or movie on your TV, mobile app, or Google search, you can easily add it to your watchlist, so it’s ready when you are[2]
- Up to 4K HDR with Dolby Vision delivers captivating, true-to-life detail[4]; and you can connect speakers that support Dolby Atmos for more immersive 3D sound
Check what happens when the source is hidden
If the playlist source is in a scene that may become hidden, inspect its visibility behavior. OBS allows the VLC source to stop, pause, or keep playing while hidden, depending on the selected behavior. A source that stops or pauses when hidden may not be at the expected point when its scene becomes visible again.
Choose the shuffle guarantee you actually need
“Without repeating the last video” can mean different things. Decide which rule matters before choosing a playlist method:

- Ultra-speedy streaming: Roku Ultra is 30% faster than any other Roku player, delivering a lightning-fast interface and apps that launch in a snap.
- Cinematic streaming: This TV streaming device brings the movie theater to your living room with spectacular 4K, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision picture alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- The ultimate Roku remote: The rechargeable Roku Voice Remote Pro offers backlit buttons, hands-free voice controls, and a lost remote finder.
- No more fumbling in the dark: See what you’re pressing with backlit buttons.
- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
- No immediate repeat: the first clip of the next pass must differ from the final clip of the previous pass.
- No repeats within a pass: every clip plays once before any clip returns. This is stronger than simply changing the order between passes.
- A different order each pass: the order is regenerated for each completed pass. That alone does not ensure that the new first clip differs from the previous final clip.
OBS describes Shuffle Playlist as randomizing files, but its documentation does not specify which of these guarantees it provides. OBS forum users have reported that a shuffled sequence can stay the same on later loops; treat this as a reported behavior, not a permanent guarantee for every OBS version. (OBS forum discussion)
For a strict no-repeat rule
Use a playlist controller that explicitly excludes the previous final clip from the next start, or uses a shuffle bag so each item plays once before the bag is replenished. Playlist Deck describes its Shuffle mode as a “Bag shuffle: every item plays once, in random order, before any repeats.” That is the project’s feature description, not an independently established guarantee for every setup. Check compatibility with your OBS version and scene, then test the behavior yourself. (Playlist Deck project)

Test the transition before leaving the stream unattended
- Run the playlist through a complete pass in a private test or recording.
- Watch the transition from its final clip to the next pass’s first clip.
- Confirm that the source behaves as intended if its scene is hidden and shown again.
- If strict no-repeat behavior matters, verify the boundary rule with the exact OBS version, VLC installation, and playlist controller you plan to use.
Looping a playlist controls media order; it does not by itself establish that a live broadcast will stay online or recover if the connection to YouTube drops.
Troubleshoot a clip that repeats unexpectedly
- The same clip loops over and over: check that the source is VLC Video with multiple playlist entries, rather than a single-file Media Source.
- The whole shuffled sequence repeats: OBS’s shuffle documentation does not promise a new order each pass, and forum users have reported a sequence persisting across loops. Use a controller with an explicit rule if that outcome is unacceptable.
- The list stops at the end: check Loop Playlist. Shuffle changes order; loop determines whether the list restarts.
- A clip resumes or restarts unexpectedly after a scene change: inspect the VLC source’s visibility behavior and test with the actual scene transitions you use.
- The source is unavailable or does not behave as expected: confirm VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS (64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC), then test playback in OBS before broadcasting.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a YouTube channel that keeps playing uploaded videos without leaving a local computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it does not stream from a camera. StreamNeo’s documented features cover looping and playlists, but do not establish a strict shuffle-bag or no-repeat-at-the-boundary guarantee, so use and test a suitable playlist workflow if that rule is essential.
