There is no documented universal XSplit Broadcaster switch that automatically restarts every stream after a disconnect. The available recovery controls depend on the destination and its XSplit output plugin. First check that plugin’s settings and XSplit’s connection status; if you stream to Twitch, its separate Disconnect Protection feature can give viewers a reconnect message for up to 90 seconds, but it does not restart XSplit for you.
Check whether your XSplit output can reconnect automatically
XSplit’s Output Plugin Properties documentation explains how to configure an output, test bandwidth, and select a network connection, but does not identify a universal automatic-restart control. XSplit says output options vary by streaming service; some options may be locked or overridden for compatibility. That means you should check the properties for the specific output plugin and destination you use rather than assume all XSplit outputs behave alike.
XSplit’s getting-started guide describes choosing an output and clicking Stream to begin. It does not explain an automatic restart after a disconnect. The documentation reviewed therefore does not establish that your particular plugin lacks reconnect behavior, only that a general setting is not documented in these guides.
What to do when a stream disconnects
- Identify the destination and output plugin. Note the platform, the exact XSplit output selected, your Broadcaster version, and any status or error displayed. Open that output’s properties and look for connection or reconnect options; their availability can vary by service.
- Check the output connection and bitrate. In the output’s Channel settings, select Test bandwidth if available. XSplit says this can help determine whether the connection supports the selected bitrate. A higher bitrate needs more upload bandwidth. Compare the result and bitrate with the destination’s current requirements; a successful test does not rule out intermittent network outages. See XSplit’s output-properties guidance.
- Check which network adapter XSplit is using. If the computer has multiple adapters, inspect the Network Connection option in the output properties. XSplit recommends Let the system decide for most users, but allows a specific adapter to be selected where needed. Avoid changing adapters without a reason, since that can introduce another variable.
- Determine whether XSplit or the platform lost the connection. Record whether XSplit says it is reconnecting or has stopped, and whether the destination still considers the event live. This helps distinguish a local uplink issue, an XSplit output interruption, and a platform-side event. Check the plugin and platform documentation before changing unrelated encoder settings.
- Restart manually if the output has stopped. If XSplit reports that the stream has stopped rather than reconnecting, use the output’s controls to start it again and follow the destination’s current live-stream workflow. The reviewed documentation does not establish one manual restart sequence that applies to every plugin and platform.
- Escalate with useful details. If it happens again, provide XSplit or platform support with the Broadcaster version, output plugin, destination, exact status/error, and whether XSplit appeared to attempt reconnection.
Twitch Disconnect Protection is not an XSplit restart setting
For Twitch streams, check whether Disconnect Protection is enabled in Twitch’s Stream Settings. Twitch says XSplit is supported and that viewers can see a reconnect message for up to 90 seconds while the streamer troubleshoots and reconnects. This is a platform-side grace period for viewers, not proof that XSplit will automatically restart the broadcast. See Twitch’s Disconnect Protection help page.

Common causes and what to check
- Insufficient or unstable upload capacity: Run XSplit’s bandwidth test if the output offers it, then compare capacity with your selected bitrate and the destination’s current recommendations. A momentary test cannot guarantee stability.
- Wrong or changing adapter: Inspect the output’s Network Connection setting when multiple adapters are present. Start with Let the system decide, as XSplit recommends for most users; select a specific adapter only when troubleshooting points to one.
- Plugin-specific behavior: Settings can differ across output services and may be restricted for compatibility. Check the exact plugin rather than relying on instructions for another destination.
- Platform viewer grace mistaken for encoder recovery: Twitch Disconnect Protection may keep a reconnect message visible to viewers, but it does not itself tell XSplit to restart.
- Unclear failure state: Before changing settings, capture the displayed status or error and determine whether XSplit is reconnecting, stopped, or still streaming while the platform reports a problem.

No. It is a Twitch-side viewer grace period, not an XSplit restart command.

Does XSplit document a universal auto-restart option?
The reviewed XSplit output-properties and getting-started guides do not document a universal option. Output settings vary by service, so check the properties for your specific plugin.
