PRISM Live Studio’s official desktop guidance does not document a built-in setting that automatically reopens the app after a crash. YouTube’s encoder auto-start setting is different: it lets the encoder start or stop streaming, but YouTube does not describe it as a way to relaunch a crashed PRISM application. After a crash, check separately that PRISM has reopened, that it is sending video, and that YouTube Live Control Room shows the intended broadcast in the expected state.
Can PRISM automatically reopen after a crash?
Not through a crash-relaunch control documented in the official PRISM desktop guidance reviewed here. PRISM’s FAQ discusses possible causes of application crashes, while its desktop help covers connection interruptions; neither establishes a supported desktop watchdog procedure, launch arguments, or guaranteed recovery behavior after a crash. See the PRISM Live Studio FAQ.
Keep three separate events in mind: restarting the PRISM process, reconnecting its encoder to YouTube, and restoring or continuing the intended YouTube broadcast. Relaunching the program alone does not prove the encoder is sending video or that the broadcast is live.
Why YouTube encoder auto-start is not crash recovery
YouTube’s stream settings include encoder auto-start and auto-stop. YouTube says, “When these settings are on, you can start or stop streaming from your encoder.” That describes control of stream start and stop from the encoder; it does not say YouTube will reopen PRISM if the application crashes. Review YouTube’s Manage live stream settings for the current stream-key and encoder options.

A crash can leave YouTube and PRISM in different states. PRISM’s FAQ also notes that a stream may end automatically because of an unstable network, a deleted channel, or invalid streaming permission. Those are not the same thing as PRISM itself crashing.
What to do after PRISM crashes
- Reopen PRISM Live Studio. Confirm the application launches and that the intended scene and YouTube destination are selected. The official guidance reviewed does not establish a universal automatic-relaunch method or a guaranteed way to restore the previous session.
- Check the encoder connection and outgoing feed. Confirm PRISM is connected and transmitting video rather than merely open. If it shows a connection error, use the relevant connection troubleshooting below.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room separately. Verify the intended broadcast’s state and preview from YouTube, not just from PRISM. PRISM advises checking the platform on a separate device when it detects a platform-side termination, then restarting the stream if needed. See PRISM’s guidance on a stream terminated on the live platform.
- Restart the broadcast only if its status calls for it. If YouTube shows that the broadcast has ended or is not receiving the encoder, start or recreate the stream as appropriate in YouTube and reconnect PRISM using the intended stream settings. A new encoder connection does not, by itself, establish that the original broadcast resumed.
Reduce the chance of another PRISM crash
PRISM lists external plugins, device or driver problems, graphics hardware or drivers, and insufficient system memory among possible crash causes. Work through the checks that match your setup:

- 1500VA / 900W RELIABLE BACKUP POWER: The highest VA capacity available for home use; delivers short-term battery power to keep essential devices powered during blackouts, surges, and unexpected power interruptions
- TEN PROTECTED OUTLETS: Power your entire setup with 5 battery backup outlets for essential devices, and 5 surge-only outlets for peripherals. Plus built-in coaxial and Ethernet surge protection for added peace of mind
- AUTOMATIC VOLTAGE REGULATION (AVR): Corrects low voltage brownouts (88V+) and surges (+/-13%) without draining battery. Boosts or trims to stable 120V. Extends runtime for blackouts; Active PFC compatible for gaming PCs
- REPLACEABLE BATTERY & ENERGY STAR UPS: User-replaceable battery (APCRBC124, sold separately) for zero-downtime swaps. ENERGY STAR certified for 92%+ efficiency, cutting energy costs vs standard UPS units
- LCD DISPLAY PANEL: Features an intuitive LCD screen that displays real-time status information including battery charge level, estimated runtime, load capacity, and input voltage for easy monitoring of your power protection system
- External plugins: remove or disable a plugin that may be contributing to the crash, then test PRISM without it.
- Capture devices and drivers: check that connected cameras, capture devices, and their drivers are functioning and current.
- Graphics: update graphics drivers and check that the system meets PRISM’s applicable hardware requirements.
- Memory pressure: close programs you do not need while streaming. PRISM advises: “If there is not enough system memory, we recommend turning off unnecessary programs while using PRISM Live Studio.”
These steps address possible causes; they do not guarantee that PRISM will never crash or automatically recover a broadcast.
Troubleshoot a PRISM YouTube connection error
“Disconnected from server” (error 57995)
PRISM identifies error 57995 as a YouTube RTMP interruption or stability problem. Causes can include an unstable network, insufficient upload speed, weak Wi-Fi, or firewall and security software interference. Its desktop troubleshooting guide for “Disconnected from server” recommends using a wired connection and checking security software. These are connection fixes, not remedies for a PRISM application crash.

- Use Ethernet where practical, rather than relying on a weak or variable Wi-Fi signal.
- Check that available upload capacity is sufficient and stable for the stream.
- Review firewall or security software settings if they may be blocking PRISM’s connection.
“Failed to connect to the server” (error 57998)
PRISM’s desktop error 57998 guidance describes IPv6-transition and ISP-infrastructure instability affecting certain users in India and Indonesia. It offers IPv4 Only and network-optimization advice for those cases. This is a regional connection workaround, not a general crash-restart fix; do not apply it as though every user or failure has the same cause.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why a stream can end even when PRISM did not crash
A YouTube stream may stop because of network instability, invalid streaming permission, or channel deletion, according to PRISM’s FAQ. Separately, a platform may terminate a broadcast under its policies, because it stops receiving video fragments for a platform-defined period, or because of a platform maximum stream time. PRISM says that after platform-side termination its app treats the broadcast as stopped and no longer updates live information; verify status directly on the platform using a separate device. Platform thresholds can vary or change.

PRISM’s mobile troubleshooting material also discusses a 10-minute RTMP condition, but that threshold concerns mobile-app connection troubleshooting, not desktop crash recovery. It should not be used to predict when a desktop PRISM stream will restart or time out. See PRISM’s mobile streaming troubleshooting guidance.
Can an operating-system watchdog relaunch PRISM?
An operating-system or third-party watchdog may be considered as an independently configured workaround, but the official material reviewed does not establish a supported Windows or macOS procedure, compatible launch arguments, or what PRISM will restore after relaunch. Do not assume that a process restart also reconnects the encoder or resumes the correct YouTube broadcast. Before relying on any such automation, verify its compatibility with your current PRISM version and test all three recovery stages: application launch, outgoing feed, and YouTube broadcast state.
