Whether you can restart CameraFi Live without creating a new broadcast depends on the broadcast’s status in YouTube Studio. If the original broadcast is still active and waiting for an encoder feed, reconnecting CameraFi to the same YouTube stream configuration may restore video to the existing event. If YouTube has ended the broadcast, reusing the stream key does not establish that the same event or viewer link can be reopened.
First check whether YouTube still has the broadcast open
A YouTube stream has two related parts: the encoder connection, which uses a stream key to send video, and the broadcast, which is the viewer-facing event and link. A reusable stream key can send another feed, but that alone does not reopen an ended broadcast.
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room.
- Find the intended broadcast and check its status. Make sure you are checking the same event whose link viewers are using.
- Use the status to choose the right recovery path below. Do not infer that the event is still open just because CameraFi can reconnect or the stream key has not changed.
If the broadcast is still active or waiting for input
If the original event remains active and YouTube is waiting for the encoder, reconnect CameraFi Live to the same YouTube channel and stream configuration. CameraFi’s official July 11, 2025 setup guide covers starting and stopping a stream, but does not establish exact recovery-button labels for a dropped session. Treat reconnecting as a conditional troubleshooting attempt, not a guaranteed app feature.
- In CameraFi Live, return to the existing YouTube connection and stream configuration rather than creating a new event.
- Reconnect the encoder feed. The exact control wording may differ by app version; the available CameraFi guidance does not specify a universal recovery button.
- Return to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and wait for the incoming preview or status to show that YouTube is receiving the feed.
- Confirm the video is visible on the intended broadcast before telling viewers the stream is back.
If the feed does not return, check the CameraFi connection and the selected channel and stream configuration. Repeatedly sending the same key is not evidence that YouTube has reopened the viewer-facing event.

If YouTube shows the broadcast as ended
Do not rely on restarting CameraFi or reusing its stream key to revive the same event. YouTube’s documentation distinguishes reusable stream feeds from broadcasts; it does not establish that a terminal, ended broadcast can be re-armed as the same event.
Create or select another broadcast in YouTube Studio, connect CameraFi to that broadcast’s stream configuration, and share the new broadcast link with viewers. If keeping an already-promoted URL is essential, that depends on the original event remaining active; the available documentation does not say an ended event can be reopened at that URL.

Why a reused stream key may not preserve the same link
YouTube describes custom stream keys as reusable encoder settings. Its Live Streaming API separately models a liveStream feed and a liveBroadcast event: a feed may be associated with broadcasts at different times. Consequently, an unchanged key can help reconnect an encoder, but it is not a guarantee that the broadcast viewers were watching is still open.
CameraFi’s FAQ describes event live streaming as bringing a scheduled broadcast to YouTube, but the indexed FAQ does not provide detailed instructions for restarting a disconnected session on the same event. Its July 2025 guide explains initial setup and using STOP to end a broadcast, not recovery of that exact event after disconnection.

Reduce the chance of losing the event next time
- Use a custom YouTube stream key if you need a persistent encoder key, while remembering that key reuse and event reuse are different things.
- Review YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop settings before relying on encoder connection behavior. Those settings affect how a connection relates to going live and stopping; they do not establish that an ended event can be reopened.
- Before ending a CameraFi broadcast, distinguish stopping the encoder from ending the YouTube event. CameraFi’s current official guide documents tapping STOP to end its broadcast; check the current app and YouTube status rather than assuming every disconnect is temporary.
Troubleshooting by symptom
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Studio shows the broadcast active or awaiting encoder input, but there is no video | The event may still be open while the encoder feed is disconnected. | Reconnect CameraFi to the same channel and stream configuration, then verify incoming video in Studio. |
| CameraFi reconnects, but the original viewer link does not show the stream | A connected feed does not by itself prove that it is attached to the intended active broadcast. | Check the selected event in YouTube Studio and confirm its incoming preview/status before sharing the link again. |
| YouTube Studio marks the broadcast ended | The existing event is no longer established as recoverable by reusing the key. | Create or select another broadcast and share its link. |
| You cannot find the expected recovery button in CameraFi | The published CameraFi guidance does not define exact recovery controls for all dropped-session cases or app versions. | Use the app’s current connection flow only if the YouTube event remains active; otherwise set up another broadcast. |
Or let it run in the cloud
For a different use case—keeping uploaded videos looping as a 24/7 YouTube stream—StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It is not a way to reopen an ended CameraFi broadcast or to stream from a camera. Nothing has to stay on at home; videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
