To restart a YouTube ambient stream automatically after a power cut, every link in the recovery chain must work: the PC must power on when electricity returns, Windows must launch OBS, OBS must attempt to start streaming, YouTube must allow the encoder to start the broadcast, and the network must be ready. Configure and test each part. A UPS can help with brief cuts, but cannot keep a stream running after its battery runs out.
What automatic recovery requires
OBS and YouTube cannot restart a PC that has lost power. Recovery therefore depends on separate settings across the computer, streaming software, YouTube broadcast, and network. A successful reboot alone does not prove that the public stream is live; verify the whole sequence.
- The PC powers on after AC power returns.
- Windows starts OBS automatically.
- OBS is configured to request streaming.
- YouTube’s broadcast settings permit the encoder to start the stream.
- The router and internet connection are available when OBS tries to connect.
Configure the PC to power on when electricity returns
Look in the motherboard’s BIOS or UEFI for a setting commonly described as Restore AC Power Loss or a similar power-restoration option. ASUS ROG describes its Restore AC Power Loss function as restoring system operation and powering on automatically after power reconnects following a failure. The setting name, location, and availability depend on the motherboard, so use the documentation for your specific PC or motherboard. ASUS ROG India: Restore AC Power Loss function.
Enable the behavior that powers the system on after AC returns, save the firmware settings, then confirm the PC can start without pressing its power button. Do not assume that this setting is available on every computer.

Set Windows to launch OBS and request streaming
An OBS Project community forum reply describes adding the --startstreaming argument to an OBS shortcut, then placing the shortcut in the Windows Startup folder or using Task Scheduler. This is community guidance, not an official guarantee that every installation or broadcast will recover correctly. Follow the discussion for context: OBS Project community forum: Autostart after e.g. Reboot.
- Find the OBS executable or an existing OBS shortcut and create a shortcut you can edit.
- In the shortcut’s Target field, append
--startstreamingafter the executable path. Preserve the existing path and place the argument after it; if the path contains spaces, keep its quotation marks intact. - Put the configured shortcut in the Windows Startup folder, or configure a Task Scheduler task to launch it when you sign in or the computer starts. The exact task options can vary with the Windows version and account setup.
- Restart the PC normally and check that OBS opens and attempts to stream. Then test a full power-restoration cycle rather than relying only on a normal restart.
A startup shortcut is a request to launch OBS and start streaming; it does not establish that the network is ready or that YouTube accepted the connection.
Allow for network startup delays
The PC or OBS may start before the router or internet connection is ready. The OBS forum discussion warns that if the initial connection attempt fails, automatic reconnect may not recover in every case. Consider delaying OBS’s launch or using a scheduled retry or network-availability check so it tries again after connectivity is available. The right approach depends on your router, Windows configuration, and connection; no single delay is guaranteed to fit every setup.
Test with the equipment in its real startup order: power the router and other network equipment, restore power to the PC, and check whether OBS connects. If it fails only when the PC boots quickly, investigate network readiness before changing YouTube settings.

Check YouTube’s encoder-start settings
YouTube Help explains that auto-start and auto-stop settings let a stream be started or stopped from the encoder. Check the settings for the broadcast you intend OBS to use, and make sure its auto-start behavior is suitable for an encoder-initiated start. Reuse settings copies these choices when creating another stream. These controls do not turn on the PC, launch OBS, or make the network available. See YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
Use a UPS only for the outage it can cover
A UPS can bridge some short power interruptions if it has enough capacity for the connected equipment and its battery has charge. It does not solve a longer cut once the battery is exhausted. A participant in an OBS community discussion mentions using an APC battery backup, while the same discussion includes outages long enough to exhaust a UPS; this is anecdotal experience, not a tested recommendation or evidence of a particular model’s runtime. Choose a UPS by checking its supported output and load, runtime at the actual connected load, battery replacement and service options, and whether it can supply both the PC and the network equipment. Runtime depends on the equipment and load; no India-specific model or runtime is established here.
Test the complete recovery sequence
After configuring the firmware, Windows, OBS, YouTube, and network behavior, test a controlled power interruption and observe each handoff. Avoid treating a successful PC boot as proof that the stream recovered.

- Does the PC power on when AC power returns, without a manual button press?
- Does Windows start OBS using the intended account and settings?
- Does OBS connect after the router and internet are available?
- Does YouTube show the intended broadcast as live?
- Can you confirm the public stream is playing, rather than only seeing OBS open?
Repeat the test after material changes to Windows startup, OBS, the broadcast setup, or network equipment.

The PC stays off after electricity returns
Check whether the motherboard provides an AC power-restoration option, whether it is enabled, and whether the change was saved. Verify the behavior in the motherboard or PC documentation; not all systems expose the same control.
The PC boots, but OBS does not open
Check that the shortcut or scheduled task points to the correct OBS executable and that Windows is launching it under the expected account. Confirm that the Startup folder or Task Scheduler configuration is active, then test with a normal restart.
OBS opens but does not start the stream
Check that the OBS launch configuration includes the intended --startstreaming argument and that OBS has the stream configuration it needs. Then verify the YouTube broadcast’s encoder-start behavior. The OBS startup suggestion comes from a community discussion and is not a guarantee of successful recovery.

OBS tries to connect before internet access is ready
Observe whether the router or connection comes online later than the PC. If so, consider delayed launch or retry logic, and test it with your actual network startup order.
The encoder is connected but the broadcast is not live
Review the relevant YouTube auto-start setting for that broadcast. Encoder controls govern whether the encoder can start the broadcast; they cannot repair a PC startup or network failure.
The stream stops during a long outage
A UPS may have run out of battery. Reassess the actual connected load and the runtime needed, or plan for the stream to recover after power returns using the full restart chain above; a UPS alone does not guarantee continuous streaming through an extended cut.
