To respec in Valor Mortis, rest at a Lantern, open the skill or level-up menu, choose its reset/respec command, review the Catalyst charge shown for your character, and confirm. The game refunds spent skill or stat allocation for redistribution, so you do not need to restart the character. Exact button names are not confirmed by an official manual, so use the command presented in your current menu.
Respec your stats at a Lantern
A respec is performed at a Lantern rather than from a separate character-creation screen. The procedure reported by current progression guides is:
- Reach or rest at a Lantern. The reset option is tied to the Lantern interaction.
- Open the progression menu. Look for the skill, level-up, or equivalent menu where you normally spend points. The exact label can differ by platform or build; no publisher-issued control map was available to confirm a single wording.
- Choose the reset or respec command. Select the option that indicates your spent skills or points will be refunded.
- Read the Catalyst price before accepting. The menu should show the charge for the current character. Treat this live in-game amount as authoritative rather than relying on a fixed number from a guide.
- Confirm the transaction. After confirmation, the spent allocation covered by the reset becomes available to assign again.
- Spend the refunded points deliberately. Rebuild around the role you want to play, such as more health, Endurance, Nephtoglobin, melee damage, blocking, or parrying.
An unofficial Valor Mortis Wiki skill-tree guide describes the same process as resetting skills from the skill menu at a Lantern by paying Catalyst. A separate progression guide published on October 13, 2026, says skill points are refundable at any Lantern for Catalysts, with the price rising as you level: Valor Mortis Guide & Wiki progression page.

The available evidence supports a refund of spent skill or stat allocation. In practical terms, points you already placed in the relevant progression menu return to the pool so you can assign them again without deleting the character or replaying the game from the beginning.

If the confirmation screen lists only certain nodes or point types, that is the scope of the transaction. Cancel if the preview does not match what you intended to reset.
How much does a Valor Mortis respec cost?
Respecs cost Catalysts, and the charge is not a permanently fixed fee. One current guide reports that the cost starts at 50 Catalysts and rises with each reset. Another says the price rises as you level. Those statements do not provide a publisher-confirmed formula or a complete price table, so the amount displayed by your Lantern is the number to trust.

Because the fee can increase, experimenting early is generally cheaper than repeatedly changing a high-level build. Before you confirm, compare the displayed charge with your current Catalyst balance and leave enough currency for the upgrades you need immediately after the reset.
When should you respec?
Respec after your playstyle changes
A reset is most useful when your current allocation no longer supports how you fight. For example, a character built around blocking may need a different balance after switching to a parry-focused weapon, while a build that spends heavily on damage may become unreliable if it lacks stamina for repeated attacks and dodges.

Respec before a planned difficulty spike
Make the change while you are at a safe Lantern and can test the new allocation. Do not wait until you are carrying a large amount of unused currency through a dangerous route; Catalysts that have not been spent can be lost at your death site according to published descriptions of the game’s currency system.
Avoid unnecessary late experimentation
Since guides report a rising fee, a respec made only to test a minor one-point change can cost more than it did earlier. Write down the allocation you want, identify the nodes that support it, and make one deliberate reset instead of several small ones.

Health is the straightforward choice when individual hits are ending attempts or forcing frequent retreats. More health does not replace learning enemy timing, but it gives you more room to survive a mistake while you practice a new weapon or defensive technique.

Endurance for actions and defense
Endurance governs the stamina budget used for actions such as attacking, blocking and dodging. A larger pool can let you finish a combo, hold a block, or evade without becoming exhausted. The fan progression guide recommends Maximum Endurance early; that is a guide recommendation, not a measured official ranking, so treat it as a starting point rather than a rule.
Nephtoglobin for Transmutations
Nephtoglobin capacity matters when your build depends on Transmutations. If you routinely run out of that resource before a fight is decided, moving some points from a surplus damage or defensive investment can make the build more consistent. If you rarely use Transmutations, the same points may be more valuable in health or Endurance.
Melee damage for shorter engagements
Damage-focused allocations can reduce the number of openings required to defeat an enemy. They are most useful when you can already avoid or mitigate incoming attacks. If low survivability is causing repeated deaths, moving every available point into damage may increase the number of failed attempts rather than improve progress.

Choose defensive specialization based on the technique you can execute reliably. The fan guide discusses a defensive choice matching Saber-style blocking or Rapier-style parrying. Blocking favors stamina management and absorbing pressure; parrying favors timing and rewards successful reads. Keep enough baseline health and Endurance for either approach to remain functional.

Managing Catalysts before and after the reset
Catalysts serve as progression currency for upgrades to stats, stamina and health. Since unused Catalysts can drop at the death site, treat a large unspent balance as a risk when entering an unfamiliar or difficult route.
- Rest at a Lantern before a respec and note your current Catalyst total.
- Confirm the respec fee and the points that will be returned.
- Reserve enough Catalysts for the upgrades you intend to buy immediately after redistribution.
- Spend or secure excess Catalysts before a route where recovering your death site may be difficult.
- After confirming, check that the refunded points and remaining currency match the transaction preview.
Troubleshooting a missing reset option
You are not interacting with a Lantern
The reported procedure is Lantern-based. If you are in a normal exploration menu, return to a Lantern and use its rest or progression interaction before looking for the reset command.

You opened the wrong progression screen
Respec is described as part of the skill or level-up menu. Check the screen where you originally spent the points rather than an equipment, weapon-upgrade or inventory screen.

The button name does not match a guide
There is no official control map in the available material, so terminology may vary. Look for a command that says reset, refund or respec and read the confirmation panel. Do not rely on a keyboard or controller shortcut copied from another platform.
The displayed fee is higher than 50 Catalysts
Fifty Catalysts is only a reported starting cost. Guides also report that the fee rises with resets or level, so a higher live price is consistent with those reports. Cancel if you cannot afford it or if the price is not worth the change you want to make.
You expected weapon or Amber progress to reset
The available descriptions establish a refund for spent skill or stat allocation, not every progression category. If the preview omits weapon upgrades, Amber choices or another category, those items are outside the confirmed refund scope.

The reset appears to have done nothing
Inspect the skill menu after confirmation and count the available points. A respec should return the allocation covered by the transaction; if the points are not visible, revisit the Lantern menu and check whether the transaction was actually confirmed rather than cancelled.

- Arrive at a Lantern with enough Catalysts for the displayed fee.
- Open the skill or level-up menu and identify the reset command.
- Read which points will be refunded and which progression types are excluded.
- Record your current allocation if you may want to recreate it later.

What is still unconfirmed
Current procedural coverage comes from fan guides rather than an official developer manual. The sources establish the Lantern location, Catalyst payment and refund purpose, but they do not establish a universal button label, a complete cost table, or a complete list of refundable progression systems. For those details, the in-game confirmation screen for your character and current game version takes precedence over any guide.
