To refresh Metal Scraps in Enshrouded, farm the Scavengers and junk around Rookmore, leave the area, then log out of a solo private world and rejoin. That logout method is documented for Scavengers, searched junk and containers. Chests follow a different rule: most remain empty for a fixed amount of in-game time, so returning to the main menu does not instantly refill them.
What Metal Scraps are and where they come from
Metal Scraps are a Springlands crafting material. You cannot craft them at a workstation; every scrap must be found in the world or dropped by an enemy. The reliable sources are:
- Scavengers: These enemies commonly drop Metal Scraps.
- Camp furniture and junk: Tables, benches and other searchable objects in Scavenger camps and settlements can contain scraps.
- Junk-metal containers: Searchable piles and containers provide additional rolls.
- Destructible objects: Eligible metal objects, boxes and linen containers can yield scraps when broken.
- World pickups: Some scraps appear as physical items in the environment.
Because the material is not craftable, an efficient route combines enemy drops with every searchable and destructible object on the same circuit. Opening only chests is not a dependable Metal Scrap strategy; scraps are primarily tied to Scavengers, junk and environmental objects.
Why Rookmore is the best early-game farming location
Rookmore is the named early-game recommendation because it concentrates Scavengers and camp containers in one area. It is directly northwest of the starting area, making it practical before you have access to distant regions or a large fast-travel network.

What to clear at Rookmore
- Defeat every Scavenger in and around the camp.
- Search tables, benches and other camp furniture.
- Open searchable junk-metal containers and collect visible pickups.
- Break eligible boxes and linen containers rather than leaving destructible objects behind.
- Collect all drops before leaving so the later reset test has a clear starting state.
Do not assume that every object in the camp can produce scraps. Breakable scenery and lootable containers have different roles, and some objects simply provide no relevant drop. The useful habit is to clear the whole route once, record which objects you can interact with, and repeat those same interactions after a reset.
A practical Rookmore loop
- Travel to Rookmore from the starting region.
- Start at one edge of the settlement and move through it in a consistent direction.
- Kill the Scavengers first. This removes combat interruptions while you search containers and furniture.
- Search every table, bench and junk-metal container that presents an interaction prompt.
- Break eligible boxes and linen containers, then pick up the resulting items.
- Check the surrounding area for physical Metal Scrap pickups.
- Leave Rookmore and its immediate surroundings before attempting a reset.
When testing repeatability, keep this route outside the active protected area of your base or Flame Altar. The cited reset guidance does not promise identical behavior for objects inside a protected area, and a base can also keep an area active while you are nearby. Treat Rookmore as a farming route, not as a guarantee that every camp object will refresh under every world configuration.

The clearest documented reset method is for a solo private game world: log out, return to the main menu and rejoin the same world. The reference describing this method specifically includes containers, searched junk and Scavenger enemies.

Step-by-step solo reset
- Complete the Rookmore loop and confirm that the Scavengers are defeated and the containers are searched.
- Move away from the camp so you are not standing in the area you are testing.
- Open the game menu and leave the world to the main menu.
- Load the same private world again.
- Return to Rookmore and check the Scavengers, junk containers and searchable furniture.
- Run the route again and compare what has returned with your first pass.
This is a reset procedure, not a command or a universal server rule. The cited information does not establish that logging out and rejoining produces the same result on a dedicated server or in every multiplayer setup. If you play with other people, test the behavior in the exact world type you use instead of assuming that a solo result transfers to a shared server.
What a successful reset looks like
- Scavengers that were defeated are present again.
- Previously searched junk presents an interaction again.
- Containers that were emptied can be searched again.
- The route produces new opportunities without requiring you to discover a different camp.
If enemies return but a particular container does not, or vice versa, treat those as separate state checks. A mixed result does not prove that the entire route failed; it may indicate that the object has a different respawn rule or that it was not an eligible source in the first place.
How loot-chest respawn actually works
Loot chests are governed by a different persistence rule from the documented solo reset for Scavengers and junk. The Official Enshrouded Wiki describes most chests as returning after a set amount of in-game time or an area reload. A later update note clarifies that treasure-chest state is saved for a fixed amount of in-game time: an emptied chest stays empty even if you return to the main menu and load the world again before that period has elapsed.

In practical terms, a menu reload is not an instant chest reset. Leave the chest area unloaded while the game’s required in-game period passes, then revisit it. Reloading the area gives the game an opportunity to apply the chest’s eligible state; it does not let you bypass the fixed persistence period.
The frequently quoted “30 minutes” figure
Players often cite approximately 30 minutes with the area unloaded. That number comes from community observation under specific conditions, not from an official universal timer. It should be treated as a test result that may vary by chest type, world state and update version, rather than as a promise that every chest refills exactly 30 minutes after it is opened.
For a controlled test, empty an ordinary chest, leave its surrounding area, continue playing elsewhere, and return only after a substantial amount of in-game time has passed. If it remains empty, do not immediately conclude that the world is broken: check whether it is a special chest, whether the area actually stayed unloaded, and whether your world has received a placement or loot change.

Chest types that may not reset normally
Ordinary repeatable chests
Most standard chests are the best candidates for repeat farming. They still obey the fixed in-game persistence period, so repeatedly opening the menu and reloading is not a shortcut. Use the unload-and-return approach instead.
Ornate chests
Ornate chests can be one-time-only or can use a much longer cooldown than ordinary chests. If an ornate chest remains empty after an ordinary chest would normally be eligible, that may be intended behavior.
Story-related chests
Chests tied to quests or story progression may also be one-time rewards. Their contents and persistence should not be used as a benchmark for ordinary camp chests.

Wooden chests after version 1.0
The 1.0 update changed wooden-chest rewards and added more chests in early-game regions. Guides and videos made during early access can therefore show different routes, chest counts or reward expectations. A route that was efficient in an older version may still contain chests, but its rewards and placement are not necessarily current.

The important distinction is the trigger: the documented logout loop applies to Scavengers, searched junk and containers in a solo private world, while chest refills depend on elapsed in-game time and chest type. There is no authoritative single timer that covers every enemy, container and chest.
Troubleshooting a route that did not reset
Nothing returned after logging out
- Confirm that you loaded the same solo private world rather than a different save or server.
- Return to the exact Rookmore camp and check both enemies and searchable objects.
- Repeat the test outside the active protected area of a base or Flame Altar.
- Check whether you are testing a chest instead of junk or a Scavenger; chests use the separate fixed-time rule.
- For multiplayer or dedicated worlds, treat the result as unconfirmed rather than assuming the solo shortcut applies.
The chest is still empty
- It may not have been unloaded long enough for its fixed in-game period.
- The often-quoted 30-minute interval is a community observation, not a guaranteed timer.
- It may be ornate or story-related and therefore one-time-only or slower to refill.
- The chest may be in a region whose placement or rewards changed with version 1.0, making an older guide inaccurate.
A guide’s chest is missing
Early-access videos are not a reliable map for the current 1.0 world. Version 1.0 added chests in early-game regions, so a chest can be present where an old guide shows none; conversely, an older route can show a reward expectation that no longer matches the wooden-chest table.
An efficient farming plan
For a short Metal Scrap run
Use Rookmore as a complete loop rather than stopping after the first enemy group. Scavenger drops alone leave searchable furniture, junk-metal containers, destructible objects and world pickups uncollected. Clearing all source types in one visit gives you a better measure of the route’s yield and makes the next reset easier to verify.
For repeated solo sessions
- Run the entire Rookmore route.
- Leave the camp and return to the main menu.
- Rejoin the same solo private world.
- Run the route again and keep only the sources that demonstrably return in your save.
If you also need chest rewards, treat chest runs as a separate schedule. Empty the ordinary chests, leave their areas unloaded while you do other activities, and revisit them after the required in-game period. Do not use repeated menu reloads as a chest-farming method.

For multiplayer groups
Farm Rookmore normally, but do not promise the solo logout result to the group. The available reference does not define a universal reset behavior for dedicated servers or every multiplayer configuration. Test the server’s actual behavior and plan around the sources that reliably return there.
