Start with the company that processed the payment, not necessarily the game publisher. Check the receipt or your account’s transaction history to see whether Apple, Google Play, Microsoft/Xbox, PlayStation Store, Nintendo, Steam, or the publisher charged you. That seller’s policy controls the first refund request. Keep the receipt, transaction ID, date, item name, amount, account, and a truthful reason ready before you submit.
There is no universal rule for V-Bucks, Robux, coins, gems, skins, boosts, or other digital items. Country, platform, whether the game was launched, and whether the currency or item was delivered or consumed can all change the result. A publisher may redirect purchases made through a third-party store to that store’s process.
Check the payment processor before requesting anything
Find the seller in the purchase confirmation email, bank statement, console transaction history, or the receipt inside the game account. The name on the charge is more reliable than the game’s logo. For example, a game publisher may appear in the game while Apple or Google Play appears on the receipt; in that case, use Apple or Google’s refund route first.
Collect the details support will need
- Account name, email address, or console ID used for the purchase.
- Transaction or order ID exactly as shown on the receipt.
- Purchase date, item name, quantity, currency, and amount paid.
- Payment processor and country or region of the account.
- A factual reason, such as a duplicate charge, unauthorized purchase, missing delivery, or technical fault.
- Whether the game was launched after purchase and whether any currency or item was spent, traded, gifted, or otherwise consumed.
Do not describe an item as unused or a charge as unauthorized unless that is accurate. Support systems can compare your statement with delivery and gameplay records.

Apple App Store purchases
Use Apple’s reporting site when Apple appears on the receipt. Sign in with the Apple Account used for the transaction and choose the refund option for the specific item.
- Open reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in.
- Open the I’d like to menu and choose Request a refund.
- Select the reason that most accurately describes the problem.
- Choose the game, subscription, currency purchase, or other item.
- Submit the request and save the confirmation.
Apple says eligibility can differ by country or region, and local consumer-law rights may still apply even when a normal store rule does not provide a refund. Apple’s support guidance says, “Wait 24 to 48 hours for an update on your request.” That is an update window, not a guarantee that the request will be approved or that money will be in your account immediately.
Google Play purchases
Google Play says it does not refund most purchases automatically. A request made within 48 hours may be eligible depending on the purchase details. After that period, Google directs users to contact the developer, which means you should identify the publisher’s support channel from the game’s store listing or support menu.

If several game-currency items were purchased together in one Google Play transaction, Google says the transaction must be refunded as a whole. You cannot ask Google to remove only one item from that single purchase. Explain the exact transaction and the status of every item in it, especially if one part was delivered or consumed.

PlayStation Store purchases
PlayStation treats virtual currencies, boosts, skins, bonus levels, emotes, and similar items as in-game consumables. In the US checklist, the request must be made within 14 days, the purchase must have been made through PlayStation Store, and the game must not have been launched after the purchase.
- Sign in to the PlayStation account that made the purchase.
- Open Transaction History.
- Select the eligible transaction.
- Choose Request Refund and follow the on-screen questions.
- Provide a precise reason and any requested information about delivery or use.
If the transaction does not appear, verify that you are using the purchasing account and the correct region. A publisher cannot override a PlayStation Store transaction through its own support queue; the store that collected the payment must evaluate it.
Microsoft Store and Xbox purchases
For a digital game or in-game purchase charged by Microsoft, use the Microsoft online digital-game refund process. Sign in, select the item, choose Request a refund, describe the reason, and submit.
Microsoft states that an online request can take up to 72 hours to process. When Microsoft issues a refund, it generally sends the money to the original payment option within 3–5 business days. Those are separate stages: the first is review of the request, while the second begins only after approval and issuance.

Nintendo purchases
Nintendo’s US account-service terms state: “Except as authorized by Nintendo or as required by applicable law, all payments that you make through the Nintendo Account services (including pre-purchases and subscription payments) are final and non-refundable.” The policy for another country may differ, so use the country associated with the Nintendo Account.
Contact Nintendo support when the charge was unauthorized, digital content was faulty, or local consumer law may require a remedy. Include the order number, account, date, item, and a description of the defect or unauthorized activity. Do not assume that simply opening the game creates an exception to the stated rule.
Purchases made directly from a game publisher
Some publisher terms make unused virtual currency non-refundable, subject to applicable local law. The word unused matters: spending, gifting, trading, or converting currency can affect eligibility. Other publishers may offer a separate remedy for a failed delivery, duplicate charge, security incident, or technical defect.

What changes when you opened the game or used the currency?
Launching the game and consuming the item are different facts, and support forms may ask about both. Answer each question exactly.
The game was opened but the currency is still present
State that the game was launched and that the balance remains intact. Do not select an “unused” option if the form defines unused as never launching the game. A platform may use launch records as an eligibility condition even when the currency has not been spent.
The currency or item was spent
List what happened: for example, the coins bought a skin, the gems were exchanged for an upgrade, or the item was gifted. A refund can require reversing the resulting content or adjusting the game account. Do not promise that a publisher will restore a negative balance or remove an item; ask what account correction will follow an approved refund.

The purchase never arrived
Check that you are signed into the account and region that received the order, restart the game, and review the in-game mailbox or inventory. If the item is still missing, describe the failed delivery and attach the receipt. A missing delivery is a different claim from changing your mind after receiving a consumable.

The charge was unauthorized
Report it promptly to the payment processor and secure the account by changing its password and enabling available two-factor authentication. Explain who made the purchase only if you know. Do not label a purchase unauthorized merely because another household member used a saved payment method; describe the circumstances accurately.
Write a clear refund request
A short, factual message is easier to review than a long argument. Adapt this template to the platform’s form:
I am requesting a refund for
[item]purchased on[date], transaction[ID], because[duplicate charge, unauthorized purchase, item not delivered, or technical fault]. The purchase was made through[platform]. The game was[launched or not launched], and the currency or item was[unused, consumed, missing, or other accurate status].The Tool Desk

Attach the receipt or quote the transaction ID rather than sending unrelated screenshots. If the form offers a list of reasons, select the closest truthful option and use the explanation box for details such as a duplicate order or a reproducible error.
After submitting: records, timing, and escalation
Save the complete record
- Keep the confirmation page, email, ticket number, and submitted explanation.
- Save the original receipt and a screenshot of the transaction history.
- Record the date you submitted and the payment method that should receive the money.
Allow the stated processing period
Platform review and bank posting are separate. Apple’s guidance gives a 24–48-hour period for an update; Microsoft gives up to 72 hours for an online request and generally 3–5 business days after issuance for the original payment option. The cited guidance does not publish a comparable processing time for Google Play, PlayStation Store, Nintendo, or publisher-direct requests.
If the request is denied
- Read the denial and identify whether it cites timing, launch status, consumption, account mismatch, or another reason.
- Use the same platform’s official support escalation route, not a second unrelated form.
- Provide the denial, receipt, transaction history, and any evidence of failed delivery or a technical fault.
- Ask the platform to review the specific fact you believe was misunderstood.
- Check consumer-protection rights in the country of purchase. Apple, PlayStation, and Nintendo expressly preserve remedies required by applicable law.
There is no reliable cross-platform approval rate or universal success rule. Country, seller, purchase channel, delivery status, consumption, and publisher terms can all change the outcome.
Final checklist before you click Submit
- The receipt names the platform you are contacting.
- The account and region in the form match the transaction.
- The item, date, amount, and transaction ID are exact.
- Your reason is factual and supported by the record.
- You answered launch and consumption questions honestly.
- You kept a copy of the request and know where to check its status.
The Bottom Line
Request the refund from the payment processor named on your receipt, as soon as the applicable window allows, with exact transaction details and an honest account of whether the game or currency was used. If the platform declines, preserve the decision and pursue its escalation path while checking local consumer-law rights.
