First, identify what needs to be fixed
Start by searching the official voter list and, if you have already applied, checking your application status on the Election Commission of India (ECI) voter-services portal. The portal provides voter-list search, application tracking, forms, and a complaint/suggestion service.

How to correct an incorrect entry
The ECI states: “For correction of mistakes in electoral rolls, an application in Form 8 is to be submitted to the Electoral Registration Officer concerned.” You can submit Form 8 online or offline, according to the ECI guidance. Use this route when an existing entry needs correction rather than filing only a general grievance.
What to do if your name is missing
If you are not enrolled
Use Form 6 to apply for new enrolment. A complaint by itself is not an application to add your name to the roll.

If your name was listed before
Check the current voter list and any application status first. If the name has disappeared despite a prior entry, contact the concerned ERO for guidance on your specific case; the correct next step can depend on the circumstances.
How to submit a complaint about service or handling
For problems with how a request was handled, use the complaint/suggestion service on the ECI voter-services portal. ECI says a complaint is assigned to an election official and that a reference ID is sent, which you can use to track the complaint and its response. This grievance channel is distinct from Form 8 correction and Form 6 enrolment applications.
How to appeal an ERO order
If you are challenging an official ERO order, the appeal recipient depends on whether the matter arose during revision or continuous updating:
- During revision: appeal to the District Election Officer.
- During continuous updating: appeal to the District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, Executive Magistrate, or District Collector.
- Further appeal: ECI guidance identifies the State Chief Electoral Officer as the next appeal authority.
Check the order and confirm the applicable route with the relevant election office; the ECI guidance cited here does not establish an appeal deadline.

The ECI voter-services portal lists 1950 as its contact number. Procedures described here apply to India; voter-list corrections, complaint channels, and appeals differ in other countries, so consult the relevant election authority outside India.
