To report harmful content on Facebook, open the specific post, photo, comment, video, or other item and choose its Report option. Select the closest reason shown, then check Support Inbox for Facebook’s decision. Reporting asks Facebook to review content; it does not guarantee removal.
If the issue is who can see your own information, change the relevant audience or profile settings instead. Reporting someone else’s content and controlling the visibility of your own information are different tasks.
Report the specific content or account
Open the item you want Facebook to review and use its in-product Report control. This may be a post, photo, comment, video, or another item. Choose the reason that most closely matches the problem from the options Facebook presents, and follow the on-screen prompts. The available choices and exact steps may vary by content type, device, or region, so use the current options in your app or browser rather than relying on one universal sequence. Facebook explains how it handles reports.
Facebook says it takes action when it finds that content violates its Community Standards. A report is a request for review, not a promise that Facebook will remove the material. If the problem concerns an account rather than one item, use the reporting option available on that account or profile.

Check Facebook’s decision and request another review
Facebook says it notifies you about the outcome in Support Inbox. Open the inbox to find the report and read the decision. If you disagree, Facebook may offer another review; the option depends on the type of content.
- Open Help and support, then Support Inbox.
- Choose Reports about others and open the decision message.
- Select See options, then Request another review, if that option is available.
Facebook says this additional review is usually completed within 24 hours. That is Facebook’s stated typical timing, not a guarantee. See its instructions for requesting another review.

Change who can see your own Facebook information
If the concern is exposure of your own posts or profile details, review the audience settings rather than reporting another person’s content. Go to Settings & privacy → Audience and visibility. Facebook groups controls there for areas including posts, profile details, stories, profile and tagging, and blocking. The labels or available settings may differ across interfaces. Facebook’s Audience and visibility help page describes these controls.
Profile and cover photos
Facebook says your current profile and cover photos are public. Their visibility does not, by itself, mean they violate a policy. Facebook says you can adjust the privacy settings of older profile and cover photos. See Facebook’s guidance on profile and cover photo privacy.

Use the right reporting route for Messenger impersonation
If someone is pretending to be another person in a Messenger conversation, Facebook’s desktop help flow is to open the conversation, choose Privacy & support → Report → Pretending to be someone, then identify whom the account is pretending to be. This reports the Messenger conversation; it is not the same as reporting a Facebook profile. For impersonation on Facebook itself, Messenger directs users to the Facebook Help Center. See Messenger’s impersonation-reporting instructions.

Keep the link or identifying details for the item so you can find it again, and retain the Support Inbox decision if you need to follow up. If a Facebook page or item is gone but still appears in an external search engine, Facebook says it cannot remove material already indexed or cached by that search engine. Contact the search engine about its listing or cached result. See Facebook’s information about search-engine results.
