Do not repost, download, mirror, or quote-post a suspected GTA 6 leak with the video attached. Save the original URL, uploader name, upload date and time, and screenshots of the page; report the item through the host platform’s copyright or abuse channel; then send the same factual information to Rockstar/Take-Two at copyright@take2games.com. A formal DMCA-style notice is different: only the copyright owner or an authorized agent should submit one, and it must contain specific identification, contact, declaration, and signature elements.
Rockstar’s published policy, updated January 10, 2025, says that in-game footage from leaked copies posted before the official release date will be taken down regardless of how the copy was obtained. The safest report describes where the material is and why it appears unauthorized without repeating its spoilers or speculating about who supplied it.
Choose the correct reporting route first
The right form depends on who you are, where the video appears, and what you can truthfully claim. A viewer can report suspected pre-release material, but a viewer normally cannot swear that they own the copyright. A rights holder or authorized representative can submit a legal copyright-removal request. Someone facing threats, extortion, account intrusion, or another separate crime should preserve evidence and contact the appropriate law-enforcement channel rather than trying to turn a copyright report into a criminal accusation.

Do not select a rights-holder form merely because it sounds more powerful. Submitting a legal notice when you cannot truthfully make the required ownership and accuracy statements can delay review and create legal risk.

Stop distribution and preserve useful evidence
Your first action should be to stop the leak from spreading. Do not download the file, upload it to another host, embed it in a post, quote-tweet it with the attachment, or publish screenshots that reveal the scene. A link to a mirror is still distribution and can make the report itself another way to find the material.
Record the location
Capture the canonical page URL exactly as displayed. Record the platform, uploader or account handle, video title, and the upload date and time shown by the service. Take screenshots that show the page, account name, title, and visible date. If the platform displays a post ID, video ID, channel ID, or permalink, save that identifier too.
Write a neutral description
Use wording such as “This video appears to show pre-release GTA VI gameplay” or “This upload appears to contain unauthorized Rockstar game footage.” Do not describe plot twists, list unreleased features, or repeat dialogue in the report title. The platform and rights holder need enough information to locate and evaluate the item, not a second summary of the leak.
Keep an evidence log
Put the URL, account, date, screenshots, and your notes in a private record. If the page changes, add the time you observed the change and any new URL shown by the host. Keep report-confirmation emails, case numbers, and replies. Do not alter screenshots or present a cropped image as proof of authenticity; your record shows what you observed, not who created the file or whether every frame is genuine.

Report the upload to its host platform
Use the platform’s own report interface before sharing the lead elsewhere. Look for a category labelled Copyright, Intellectual property, Illegal content, or Abuse. The exact labels and menus can change, so select the closest current option and explain the issue in plain language.
- Open the original page. Work from the canonical URL you recorded, not a mirror or a search result that may point to a copy.
- Choose the appropriate category. If you are a viewer, select the ordinary abuse or illegal-content route and identify the material as a suspected pre-release leak. If you are the owner or an authorized agent, use the platform’s copyright-removal form.
- Supply locating details. Paste the exact URL, account name, title, upload date, and any post or video ID. State briefly what portion appears to be unauthorized and why it appears to be pre-release.
- Attach only necessary evidence. Screenshots of the listing or page are usually more useful than copies of the leaked video. Do not upload the leak to prove that it exists.
- Submit and save the confirmation. Record the ticket number, date, and any deadline or response instructions. A platform action confirms that a complaint was processed; it does not by itself prove that the footage was genuine.
If the host asks you to identify the copyright owner and you are only a viewer, say so. Explain that you are forwarding a suspected leak for review rather than claiming ownership. The rights holder can then decide whether to pursue a legal removal request.
Notify Rockstar and Take-Two
For material concerning Rockstar content, Rockstar’s published contact is copyright@take2games.com. Send a concise factual message after, or at the same time as, the host-platform report. Include the original URL, uploader or account name, upload date and time, a neutral description, and the reason it appears to be pre-release or otherwise unauthorized.

What to include in the email
- The full page URL and any stable post, video, or account identifier.
- The platform name, uploader handle, displayed title, and displayed upload date.
- A sentence such as “The upload appears to show in-game footage from a copy released before the official release date.”
- The time zone for any date or time that could otherwise be ambiguous.
- Your contact email if the rights holder needs clarification.
- The platform report number, if one was issued.
Do not attach or forward the leaked video unless the rights holder specifically asks for it through a secure channel. Do not identify a supposed insider or claim that a named person obtained the copy. Report what you can observe and let the rights holder investigate provenance.

Rockstar’s policy and spoilers
Rockstar’s customer-support policy, last updated January 10, 2025, says Take-Two generally permits some non-commercial fan use that does not intentionally spoil the plot, while reserving the right to remove content. It specifically states that any posting of in-game footage from leaked copies before the official release date will be taken down, regardless of how the game was obtained.
The same policy distinguishes ordinary fan gameplay from material that is removal-prone, including pre-release leaked footage, isolated major spoilers, isolated in-game entertainment, cheating instructions, and unauthorized modifications or ports. The list is not exhaustive and can change. If you are unsure whether a scene is a spoiler, Rockstar says to contact copyright@take2games.com with the scene and context. Licensing requests can also be sent there with a detailed description and proposed use.
How YouTube handles a copyright complaint
YouTube describes a copyright-removal request as a legal request usually submitted by a copyright owner or an authorized representative. When YouTube accepts a valid request, it removes the content and applies a copyright strike to the uploader. Some requests are scheduled: the uploader may receive seven days to delete the video or seek a retraction before removal becomes effective. After removal, the uploader can submit a counter-notification through YouTube’s process.

A rights holder should identify only the material it can locate and support, rather than asserting that an unknown person leaked the copy or that every related upload is infringing.

If you are a viewer on YouTube
- Copy the video URL and record the channel, title, displayed upload date, and screenshots.
- Use YouTube’s ordinary report or abuse option to describe the upload as suspected pre-release GTA VI footage.
- Do not choose the legal copyright-owner declaration if you are not the owner or authorized agent.
- Send the same factual details to copyright@take2games.com.
- Save YouTube’s confirmation and avoid revisiting, commenting on, or sharing the video while the report is reviewed.
If you are the owner or authorized agent
Use YouTube’s copyright-removal workflow and identify the exact video or specific portions at issue. Read every declaration before submitting. If a scheduled request is offered, note the seven-day period and monitor the case for a deletion, retraction, counter-notification, or request for clarification.
What a formal DMCA-style notice must contain
A formal notice is for the copyright owner or an authorized agent, not for a casual viewer who merely found a suspicious upload. A useful checklist, reflected in the U.S. DMCA procedure published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, includes all of the following:
- The copyrighted work. Identify the game footage, trailer, artwork, audio, or other work that you own or are authorized to represent. If multiple works are involved, describe each one clearly.
- The infringing material and its location. Provide the exact URL and any information reasonably sufficient to find the offending copy. Name the specific video, post, timestamp, or segment when the complaint concerns only part of an upload.
- Your contact information. Supply a physical address, telephone number, and email address as requested by the receiving service, or the contact details required by its current form.
- A good-faith statement. State that you believe the challenged use is not authorized by the copyright owner, the owner’s agent, or the law.
- An accuracy and authority statement. State that the information is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.
- A physical or electronic signature. Sign in the manner accepted by the platform or designated agent.
Do not copy this checklist into a notice without checking the receiving service’s current requirements. A legal notice should be limited to works and URLs you can identify, and it should distinguish known facts from assumptions.

Understand what a report does—and does not—prove
A platform removal, a strike, or a response from Take-Two shows that a complaint was acted on under a service’s policy. It does not establish that every frame was authentic, reveal who supplied the copy, or prove criminal infringement. Preserve your notes as observations and avoid presenting an unverified allegation as fact.
U.S. 17 U.S.C. §506 describes specific criminal-infringement categories, including willful infringement for commercial advantage or private financial gain, qualifying-value reproduction or distribution within 180 days, and distribution of a work being prepared for commercial distribution when statutory conditions are met. The statute also says that evidence of reproduction or distribution alone is insufficient to establish willfulness. Whether conduct meets those elements is fact-specific and is not decided merely because someone filed a report.
For that reason, a viewer’s normal escalation is platform report first and rights-holder notice second. Contact law enforcement only for a separate issue such as extortion, threats, account compromise, fraud, or another suspected crime, and provide the factual evidence you preserved.

- Reposting “for awareness.” A warning that contains the clip, screenshots, or a mirror link expands the audience and can create another copy to remove.
- Using a legal form without authority. Do not claim to own Rockstar or Take-Two material, and do not sign under penalty of perjury if you are only a viewer.
- Guessing about the source. A username, watermark, or apparent recording setup does not prove who leaked the copy.
- Overstating what you saw. Say that the video appears to show pre-release footage; do not call it genuine, stolen, or criminal unless you have authoritative evidence.
- Sending an incomplete location. A channel name without the exact video URL may be insufficient for reviewers to find the item.
- Including unnecessary spoilers. Report the location and type of material without reproducing plot details.
- Deleting your records after filing. Keep the confirmation, case number, screenshots, and timestamps in case the host or rights holder asks follow-up questions.
- Assuming one removal ends the matter. Mirrors may appear. Report each new URL separately, without linking the mirrors publicly.
Protect your account and privacy while reporting
Use the platform’s official domain or in-app reporting control rather than a form sent by an unknown account. Check that any email claiming to be a response comes from the service’s expected domain. Do not provide passwords, authentication codes, payment details, or unrelated personal documents to someone promising to remove a leak.
Keep your report factual and as narrow as possible. If the platform asks for a phone number or physical address in a rights-holder form, provide it only when you are authorized to submit that form and understand how the service handles notifier information. A viewer can generally forward the lead to copyright@take2games.com without publishing personal information in a public post.
A practical decision checklist
- Have you stopped distribution? Close the page without downloading, reposting, embedding, or linking to a mirror.
- Can you locate the original? Save the canonical URL, account, title, date, time zone, and screenshots.
- Are you a viewer or an authorized reporter? Viewers use ordinary abuse reporting; owners and authorized agents may use legal copyright forms.
- Is the concern pre-release footage, an ordinary spoiler, or another kind of infringement? Describe the category accurately and avoid assuming that every spoiler is a leak.
- Have you notified the host? Submit the platform report and save its case number.
- Have you sent the factual lead to Rockstar/Take-Two? Use copyright@take2games.com for Rockstar material.
- Is there a separate safety or crime issue? Preserve evidence and contact the appropriate authority for threats, extortion, account compromise, or similar conduct.
- Have you avoided public accusations? Do not name an alleged leaker or claim criminality without verified evidence.
This process gives the platform and rights holder the information needed to locate the suspected upload while limiting further distribution and avoiding legal statements you cannot support.
