If a newly opened LEGO set is missing a piece, use LEGO’s Missing Pieces service. If a brick is cracked, broken, or otherwise damaged, choose Broken Bricks. Have the set number and the part’s element ID ready; LEGO uses those details to identify the correct replacement. For older sets or extra parts, use LEGO’s Pick a Brick service to buy individual elements, or carefully evaluate a third-party seller when LEGO no longer lists the exact piece.
The process is straightforward, but accuracy matters. A wrong color, mold, or connection geometry can make a replacement unusable, and replacement shipments are not trackable. The steps below show which route to use, what information to collect, how long delivery currently takes in several countries, and what to do when an element is unavailable.
Choose the correct LEGO replacement route
Start by deciding whether the problem is an absent element or a damaged one. The two official forms are separate because LEGO may handle inspection differently for a defective part.

| A piece was absent from a newly opened set | Missing Pieces | Set number; element ID, color, quantity, and description from the instructions’ inventory | Official replacement service for the new set |
| A piece is cracked, broken, or otherwise damaged | Broken Bricks | Set number, an accurate description of the defect, and the damaged piece | Official replacement service; LEGO may request a receipt |
| You need an extra part or are restoring an older set | Pick a Brick | Element or part number, color, shape, and required quantity | Paid individual-element purchase |
| The exact element is no longer listed by LEGO | Third-party marketplace, if necessary | Exact LEGO element or part number and a detailed compatibility check | Seller-dependent; price and quality vary |
Submit a separate request for each affected set. Do not combine pieces from several set numbers into one request, because LEGO’s service is organized around the individual set.

Find the set number and identify the exact element
The set number is the fastest starting point. Look on the retail box or on the building instructions. Record it exactly, including every digit, before opening the replacement-parts hub.
Next, use the inventory in the instruction book. For the affected item, write down:
- the element ID shown in the parts list;
- the LEGO color name or the color as displayed in the inventory;
- the number of identical pieces missing or damaged;
- a plain-language description, such as the shape, size, and whether it has studs, a hole, a clip, a hinge, a printed design, or another distinctive feature.
The element ID is more reliable than a casual description. LEGO can sometimes identify an item from the automated search by set and part details; if the search does not find it, LEGO asks for a complete description, the element ID from the instructions, and the set number. Supplying all three prevents delays caused by an ambiguous description.
Request a missing piece from LEGO
For an element that was not in the box, use the Missing Pieces option in LEGO’s replacement-parts hub. The service is intended for a newly opened set whose inventory does not match the contents of the box.
- Locate the set number. Copy it from the box or instruction book rather than relying on the set’s name alone.
- Check the instruction inventory. Confirm the element ID, color, quantity, and description. Look again through the packaging and building area so you do not request a part that has already been set aside.
- Open LEGO’s replacement-parts hub. Select Missing Pieces, then enter the set information and the requested element details.
- Use the manual description field when needed. If the automated search cannot locate the item, provide the full description, element ID, and set number. Include the number of copies missing.
- Submit one request for that set. If another set has a separate omission, file another request for that set number.
- Save the confirmation. LEGO says it emails customers when replacement pieces are on the way. Keep that message until the part arrives and you have checked it against the instructions.
Use one request to list all missing elements from the same set when the form allows it. That gives LEGO a complete picture of the shortage and avoids creating duplicate cases for the same box.

Report a cracked or broken LEGO piece
A crack, snapped connection, manufacturing defect, or other physical damage belongs under Broken Bricks, not Missing Pieces. Keep the defective element instead of throwing it away.
- Identify the set and element. Use the set number and instruction inventory to record the element ID, color, and quantity.
- Describe the defect precisely. State where the crack or break is located, whether the piece arrived damaged or failed during normal assembly, and whether any section is missing.
- Open the replacement-parts hub and choose Broken Bricks. Enter the set details and the damaged element.
- Retain the original piece. LEGO says it may request the part for closer inspection. Put it in a labeled bag so it remains available.
- Keep the purchase receipt if you have it. LEGO may occasionally ask for a receipt while handling a damaged-brick request.
- Watch for the email confirmation. The email indicates that the replacement is being processed or shipped; the shipment itself is not trackable.
Do not substitute a visually similar part in the report. A one-plate difference in height, a slightly different hinge, or a different shade can affect both the build and LEGO’s ability to diagnose a defect.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat happens after you submit
LEGO sends an email when replacement pieces are on the way. Replacement-piece shipments are not trackable, so there is no carrier tracking number to follow through the normal delivery process. If the package has not arrived by the applicable delivery window, use the confirmation details when contacting LEGO rather than opening several duplicate requests.
For a damaged element, the request can take an additional step if LEGO asks to inspect the original piece. Keep the part and any related packaging until the case is complete. A receipt is not automatically required in every case, but retaining it is prudent because LEGO may request one.
Current delivery estimates by country
LEGO’s delivery-timeframes page, accessed in 2026, gives these operational estimates for replacement pieces:

| Destination | Published estimate | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| United States | 11–13 business days | Current estimate on LEGO’s 2026 delivery-timeframes page; not a guaranteed arrival date |
| Canada | 10–14 business days | Current estimate on LEGO’s 2026 delivery-timeframes page; not a guaranteed arrival date |
| Mexico | Up to 28 days | Current estimate on LEGO’s 2026 delivery-timeframes page; not a guaranteed arrival date |
LEGO’s terms also describe a target of 7–10 days for the continental United States and 17–22 days for Canada. Those terms are separate from the current delivery-timeframes page, so use the delivery-timeframes figures above as the operational estimate and do not promise an exact arrival date to yourself or another builder. Country, weekends, holidays, and local delivery conditions can affect the actual date.
Use Pick a Brick for older sets and extra elements
Official replacement service is the best first step for a missing or defective piece in a newly opened set. If you are completing an older set, buying spares, or adding parts to a custom build, LEGO’s Pick a Brick service is the official individual-part purchasing option.
Pick a Brick supports searches by:
- color;
- category;
- keyword;
- piece name or number; and
- set number.
The service has different inventories for its Bestsellers and Standard selections. If a search in one selection does not show the element, check the other selection and try the element number instead of a descriptive word. LEGO’s page states that up to 999 of each piece can be ordered at one time.
- Read the original set inventory. Capture the element ID and color, not just the name printed in a secondary listing.
- Search Pick a Brick by element number. If that fails, try the color, category, keyword, piece name, or the set number.
- Compare the product image and specifications. Check the mold, dimensions, connection points, print, and color before adding it to the order.
- Choose the appropriate inventory. Look in both Bestsellers and Standard because they do not contain identical selections.
- Set the quantity carefully. The stated maximum is 999 of each piece per order; order only what you need for the restoration or build.
- Review the order as a paid purchase. Pick a Brick is for buying individual elements, unlike the replacement route for an absent or defective part from a new set.
If LEGO no longer lists the exact part
A third-party marketplace can be a practical fallback for an obsolete element, but treat it as a compatibility exercise rather than a simple color match. Seller inventory, authenticity, condition, and return policies differ, and availability can change quickly.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Element or part number: Match the LEGO number from the instruction inventory or a reliable parts reference.
- Color: Confirm the exact shade; two colors that look similar on a screen may be visibly different in a finished model.
- Shape and mold: Check the number and placement of studs, bars, clips, hinges, slopes, and other geometry.
- Connection geometry: Make sure the replacement uses the same connection type and dimensions. A compatible-looking piece can still prevent the next building step from fitting.
- Decoration or printing: If the original is printed, compare the design and orientation rather than accepting an unprinted version.
- Condition and authenticity: Read whether the listing is new, used, worn, or described as a compatible alternative, and inspect seller feedback and return terms.
- Quantity: Confirm that the listing supplies the number of pieces required, not merely one sample photograph.
When an exact original cannot be found, a visually similar substitute may keep a model structurally complete, but it is not the same as replacing the LEGO element. Decide whether structural function, appearance, or collection accuracy matters most before accepting an alternative.
Official replacement, Pick a Brick, or a marketplace?
| Decision factor | Official Missing Pieces or Broken Bricks | Pick a Brick | Third-party seller |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best use | Absent or damaged element from a newly opened set | Older sets, spares, and additional elements | Exact part is unavailable through LEGO |
| Payment model | LEGO’s official replacement route for the affected new set | Paid individual-part order | Seller-dependent price and shipping |
| Identification | Set number plus element ID and description | Element number, color, search terms, or set number | Buyer must verify element number, color, mold, and geometry |
| Quality assurance | Handled through LEGO’s service process | Supplied through LEGO’s own individual-element inventory | Authenticity and condition depend on the seller |
| Delivery visibility | Replacement shipment is not trackable | Normal individual-part order handling | Varies by seller and marketplace |
| Availability | Depends on service eligibility and the requested set | Depends on Bestsellers and Standard inventory | Depends on current listings |
For a new box with a genuine omission or defect, the official route minimizes identification and compatibility risk. Pick a Brick is the logical paid option when you need an extra or are rebuilding an older model. A marketplace is a last resort when the exact element is no longer in LEGO’s listed inventory.

The automated search cannot find the part
Do not guess from the picture alone. Return to the instruction inventory and enter the element ID, set number, color, quantity, and a complete plain-language description. Include distinctive features such as a clip, hinge, print, transparent section, or unusual slope. LEGO specifically asks for the complete description, element ID, and set number when the automated search does not locate a missing item.
You are unsure whether the part is actually missing
Recheck the inventory quantity and search the box, inner bags, instruction pages, and the building surface. If the set is still incomplete after that check, submit the request with the quantity shown in the instructions. Avoid filing duplicate requests for the same set while waiting for the confirmation email.

Compare the element ID and connection geometry rather than relying on color or overall silhouette. If you purchased through a marketplace, use the seller’s return process when the listing does not match the specified element.

LEGO asks for the damaged piece
Send or retain the original exactly as requested. Do not discard it after submitting the Broken Bricks form. Place it in a labeled bag with the set number and keep any receipt until LEGO closes the request.
The package has not arrived
Use the country-specific estimate as a working window, remembering that the shipment is not trackable. If the window has passed, contact LEGO with the original confirmation and set details. Creating multiple requests can make it harder to determine which shipment is outstanding.
Several sets have problems
File one request per set, even when the pieces look identical. Each set number establishes the inventory context LEGO needs to process the request.

Three practical examples
A new set is missing one dark-gray plate
Find the set number on the box, locate the dark-gray plate in the instruction inventory, and record its element ID and required quantity. Open Missing Pieces, enter the set number, select the exact element, and submit the request. If the search does not return the plate, provide the element ID, color, quantity, and a plain-language description.
A transparent panel arrived cracked
Record the set number and the panel’s element ID, then choose Broken Bricks. Describe the crack’s location, keep the panel, and retain the receipt in case LEGO requests it. Watch for the email stating that the replacement is on the way; the shipment will not have tracking.
An older discontinued set needs two unusual hinges
Search Pick a Brick by the hinge’s element number, then by color, category, keyword, piece name or set number if necessary. Check both Bestsellers and Standard inventories and compare the mold and hinge orientation. If LEGO does not list the hinge, evaluate third-party listings using the element number, color, shape, connection geometry, condition, and seller return policy.
