Editing a YouTube playlist changes its membership or order; it does not, according to the available YouTube and Switchboard documentation, replace the live program coming from your encoder. To change what viewers see on air, change the source in the encoder or playout system feeding Switchboard.
Tell the YouTube playlist apart from the live program
A YouTube playlist is a collection of videos viewers can browse. A live program is the video feed an encoder or playout system sends through Switchboard Live to YouTube. These are separate controls.
- If the public playlist is wrong: edit its order or remove a video on YouTube.
- If the video currently on air is wrong: find the encoder or playout system supplying Switchboard and change the source there.
Switchboard describes itself as a multistreaming platform, and its FAQ says prerecorded videos must be supplied by an encoder that supports them; Switchboard does not store prerecorded videos. The Switchboard FAQ explains that distinction.
Change the public YouTube playlist
These steps alter playlist membership or order, not the active encoder output. YouTube’s instructions are for a computer.

- Open the playlist on YouTube.
- To change the order, drag a video to its new position.
- To remove a video, select More beside that item, then select Remove from .
- Check the playlist to confirm the item order or membership is as intended.
See YouTube’s Edit playlists – Computer instructions. They do not describe these actions as changing a separate live feed, or specify when an already-open viewer’s display refreshes.
Replace or change the video that is live
- Identify the actual source. Check which encoder or playout system is sending video into Switchboard. Look for the active file, queue, or source in that system rather than assuming the YouTube channel playlist controls it.
- Use that system’s live source controls. Follow its documented procedure to replace the file or change the queue. Switchboard’s documentation does not give a universal procedure for editing another encoder’s playlist during a live broadcast.
- Check the output. Confirm the replacement in the source system’s preview or output. Switchboard’s YouTube connection guide instructs operators to verify that video appears in the confidence monitor and that the receiving indicator is green before going live.
- Verify what viewers receive. Where practical, check the live destination from a separate viewer. The cutover may depend on the encoder or playout service; the available documentation does not promise an immediate or interruption-free mid-item replacement.
What Switchboard can change while live
Switchboard documents editing stream titles and descriptions while live for destinations that support live editing, including YouTube. That changes metadata, not the video source or YouTube playlist contents. See How to Add a Stream Title and Description to Your Live Videos.

Scheduled-event management is a separate case. For an event that has not gone live, Switchboard documents editing event details and destinations through its Events manager or workflow. Its Scheduled Events documentation warns that removing a destination such as YouTube permanently deletes that destination’s public event page. Promotional links to it break, and people who selected “Notify Me” will no longer be subscribed. Do not treat removing a scheduled destination as a way to replace content in a running feed.
Troubleshoot a video that will not change
