You can’t swap an uploaded YouTube video for a new file while keeping the original URL. To replace a video in a 24/7 playlist, add the replacement, move it into the old video’s position, then remove the old entry. If the playlist is already playing, check the edited list and resume playback if necessary: YouTube’s instructions do not say whether a running session’s queue refreshes automatically.

Replacing a playlist entry is not replacing an upload

YouTube treats these as different actions. It does not support replacing an uploaded video in place; a new upload is a separate video with a new URL. You can, however, change which videos appear in a playlist and their order. For this task, replace the playlist entry rather than expecting the original upload itself to change. See YouTube Help: Replace or delete your video and YouTube Help: Create and manage playlists in YouTube Studio.

Keep the old upload if its URL, views, or analytics matter. YouTube says deleting a video is permanent. Removing a video from a playlist is not the same as deleting the upload.

Before you edit the 24/7 playlist

  • Sign in to the account that can edit the playlist, and confirm you have the correct channel selected.
  • Check that the replacement video is available to the intended viewers. A video that is private, unavailable, or otherwise inaccessible to them may not work as intended in the list.
  • Note the current order and identify the old playlist entry so you can put the replacement in the right position.
  • If the videos are made for kids, check the audience setting on the relevant content. YouTube requires creators to identify whether their videos are made for kids.

Replace the video in YouTube Studio on a computer

  1. Sign in to YouTube Studio.
  2. In the left menu, select Content, then open the Playlists tab.
  3. Open the playlist’s menu and choose Edit on YouTube.
  4. Add the replacement video. YouTube’s playlist guidance allows you to add videos from search, by URL, or from your channel library.
  5. Drag the replacement into the position where the old entry belongs.
  6. Open the old video’s menu and choose Remove from .
  7. Review the playlist order and play the edited list to verify the visible result.

Adding and positioning the replacement before removing the old entry helps ensure that the playlist contains the replacement before the previous entry is taken out. YouTube documents playlist editing, but not whether a player already running will refresh its queue immediately. If the live playback still follows the old queue, resume playback from the updated playlist.

Edit the playlist from the YouTube Studio mobile app

YouTube Studio’s Android instructions describe this route for adding or removing a video:

  1. Open Content and select the video.
  2. Open the video’s options, choose Edit, then Add to playlist.
  3. Select the playlist and save. To remove the video, use the same editing flow, uncheck the playlist, and save.

The Studio app also supports editing playlist details and ordering. Exact controls can vary by app version and account, so check the playlist afterward to confirm the change.

Make sure the playlist repeats

Playlist repeat and Autoplay are different controls. Repeat cycles the playlist; Autoplay plays another related video after the current video ends. Autoplay does not mean that the playlist itself is looping, and neither setting guarantees uninterrupted 24/7 playback.

On a computer, open a video in the playlist and use the loop control in the playlist box. YouTube also documents playlist repeat controls on mobile and on TV or gaming consoles. After editing, check that repeat is enabled on the device playing the playlist. For details, see YouTube Help: Loop videos or playlists on YouTube and YouTube Help: Autoplay videos.

Children’s content and account limitations

Some playlist controls may not be available in every viewing or account context. YouTube’s guidance says features such as Save to playlist and Save to watch later are restricted or disabled for content set as made for kids. Playlist features may also be unavailable on supervised accounts. If the expected controls are missing, check the account type and the video’s audience setting rather than assuming the playlist is broken. See YouTube Help: Set your channel or video’s audience.

Troubleshooting

  • You can’t find “Edit on YouTube”: Confirm you are signed in to the account that can manage the playlist and have selected the right channel. Some controls may not be available on supervised accounts.
  • You can’t add or save a video: Check whether the content’s made-for-kids setting or account restrictions limit playlist features. Confirm the replacement is available to the intended viewers.
  • The old video still appears in the running playback: The official playlist instructions do not establish that an active session refreshes its queue after edits. Check the playlist itself, then resume playback from the updated list if needed.
  • The playlist stops instead of repeating: Confirm playlist repeat is enabled. Autoplay is a separate setting and may play a related video rather than restart the playlist.
