Short answer: You cannot replace a video inside a Restream Playlist after it goes live. Restream allows Playlist videos to be added, removed, or rearranged only before the Playlist airs. If the broadcast must continue, you can replace a video source in Restream Studio instead—but that changes the live Studio production, not the Playlist itself, and Restream does not promise a seamless switch.

First, identify what kind of stream is live

Restream has two different workflows that can look similar on YouTube:

  • A Restream Playlist: a scheduled sequence of prerecorded videos. Once it is airing, its video sequence cannot be edited. Restream says only graphics and chat can be edited while a Playlist airs. See Restream’s Playlist instructions.
  • A Restream Studio production: a live broadcast built from scenes and sources. In Studio, you can use video controls to replace or hide a video source while the stream is live. This is a source-level change, not an edit to a Playlist. See Restream’s Studio video instructions and scene instructions.

If the video is part of a Playlist that is already airing, there is no documented way to swap that item and keep that same Playlist running. Choose between letting the Playlist continue as scheduled, or using a Studio production for a live source change.

Replace a video in a live Restream Studio stream

Use this method only when the broadcast is a Studio production with a video source. You are replacing or hiding that source in the live production; you are not changing the contents or order of a Restream Playlist.

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
  1. Open the live Studio production. Confirm that you are controlling the active Studio stream, rather than viewing a Playlist that is already airing.
  2. Add a Media scene or use an existing video source. In Studio, choose a stored video or upload the replacement video, then place it in the scene you want to use.
  3. Prepare the replacement before switching. Check that the correct video is selected and that its audio and framing are suitable. Restream documents controls to pause, seek, loop, maximize, adjust volume, replace, or hide a video.
  4. Switch scenes or replace the source using Studio’s live controls. Restream says scenes can be adjusted while a stream is live. Watch the program output as you make the change.
  5. Confirm the result on YouTube. Check that the intended video and audio are reaching the live broadcast before continuing with other changes.

Restream documents the controls, but does not guarantee that every replacement is instantaneous, seamless, or free of a brief transition. If even a brief visual or audio change is unacceptable, do not assume a source swap will be invisible to viewers.

Change a Playlist before it goes live

If the stream must remain a scheduled Restream Playlist, make the replacement before the Playlist starts:

  2. Choose or upload the correct video. Select a file from storage or upload the replacement.
  3. Adjust the sequence. Add, remove, and rearrange files until the order is correct.
  4. Preview the Playlist. Verify the video selection and sequence before scheduling.
  5. Schedule the Playlist. Restream says drafts save automatically before scheduling is complete. Its scheduling guide says prerecorded videos and Playlists can start automatically at the scheduled time; do not confuse platform-specific manual-start exceptions with the Playlist editing rule.

Restream’s 2026 Help Center article documents a maximum Playlist length of 24 hours and up to 40 videos. It also says Playlists require an Upload & Stream add-on tier; the available tiers and terms can change, so check the current Playlist documentation before relying on a particular limit or plan.

A YouTube event switch is not a Playlist edit

Restream can connect a stream to an existing YouTube event, and its guidance describes connecting or switching events in certain live-stream circumstances. That changes the destination event, not the videos in the Playlist. Restream says you can switch to a different event, but not one that has already been streamed to. See the existing-event guide and the YouTube event guide. Do not switch events expecting it to replace a Playlist item.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the goal is to keep prerecorded video running on a YouTube channel without leaving a computer on, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option—not a way to edit a Restream Playlist. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not broadcast from a camera and streams to YouTube only.
