For a creator-run YouTube Live stream, use OBS Studio’s VLC Video Source to play a playlist made from local media files. Add only the videos you want repeated, leave Shuffle Playlist off to keep their listed order, and enable Loop Playlist to restart the sequence when it ends. YouTube’s own loop controls are for viewers; they do not provide a documented creator-side setting for selectively repeating videos in a live broadcast.
What YouTube’s loop button does—and does not do
YouTube Help documents looping playlists for viewers. On desktop, a viewer can loop a playlist from its playlist box. On Android, a viewer can loop a playlist and tap the loop control again to repeat only the current video. Those controls change what that viewer watches; they are not a creator control for choosing which videos repeat in a YouTube Live broadcast. See YouTube’s Loop videos or playlists on YouTube help.
For creator-controlled live output, the documented practical method here is to play selected local files through a playlist-capable source in OBS. Do not treat a YouTube playlist URL as an OBS media playlist: OBS documents media files and VLC-supported media, not importing a YouTube playlist URL for this workflow.
Set up a selected-video rotation in OBS
Before you start
- Get local media files for the videos you are entitled to stream.
- Install OBS Studio and VLC. OBS’s VLC Video Source depends on VLC being installed; OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Have your YouTube live broadcast and normal OBS streaming setup ready. Adding a media source alone does not start a broadcast.

Add only the videos you want to repeat
- In OBS, add a VLC Video Source to the scene you intend to stream. If the source is unavailable, confirm VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS (for 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC).
- Open the source’s playlist controls and add the local media files that belong in the rotation. Leave out any video you do not want included.
- Arrange the files in the order you want them to play.
- Leave Shuffle Playlist off for the listed sequence. Enable Loop Playlist so OBS restarts the source after it reaches the end of the media-file list.
- Send OBS to the intended YouTube live broadcast using your normal streaming setup. Verify the broadcast itself is live; the VLC source controls playback, not YouTube connection or stream startup.
Test the full rotation
Preview the source and, if practical, let the entire sequence reach its end to confirm that it restarts in the expected order. Check the live output and stream connection before relying on it. Looping the media does not keep OBS, the computer, the network, or the YouTube broadcast operational if one of them stops.
Viewer looping versus a creator-controlled rotation

The first option changes an individual viewer’s playback. The second controls the media sent as live output, but it does not remove the need to keep the local streaming setup running.
Troubleshooting
VLC Video Source is missing
Install VLC and check that its architecture matches OBS. OBS specifically notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.

The playlist stops after the last file
Open the VLC Video Source settings and enable Loop Playlist. That setting restarts the source when it has run out of media files.
Videos play in an unexpected order
Turn off Shuffle Playlist and arrange the files in the desired sequence. With shuffle disabled, the listed order is used.
A YouTube playlist URL does not work as the source playlist
Use local media files for this method. OBS’s cited media-source documentation does not establish YouTube playlist URL ingestion as a supported way to build this rotation.

The video loops, but the live stream goes offline
Looping governs media playback only. Check whether OBS is still running, the computer and network are available, and the YouTube broadcast remains connected. A looping source cannot recover a failed machine, application, network, or broadcast.
