Removing linked platforms or images changes what the profile shows. Name and bio edits are only suggestions that Google reviews. A private profile limits who sees your posts, but it doesn’t guarantee that your name, picture or posts vanish from Search. A separate webpage about you needs a different process.
First, work out what you are actually seeing
“Google profile” can mean three different things, and each has a different fix:
- A Google Search profile: the profile you manage at profile.google.com/account, with linked content platforms, images and a bio.
- Public activity tied to your Google Account, such as posts or comments, whose visibility depends on your profile privacy setting.
- A separate website that mentions you. Editing your profile does nothing to this.
Open the result in question and check which of these it is before you start. Google’s Manage your Search profile page covers the profile fields, linked platforms, images and handles.
Which route fits your situation

Change or limit your Search profile
- Sign in to the Google Account tied to the profile and open profile.google.com/account.
- Choose Edit profile.
- Remove any linked content platforms you don’t want contributing content. Google says removing or reordering a platform shows immediately after you save. Adding one requires approval, and content from newly linked social accounts can take 24–48 hours to appear, depending on Google’s indexing and the platform’s API.
- Remove or replace your profile picture and cover image.
- Edit your name and About/Bio only if you accept that these are suggestions. Google reviews them, pending changes aren’t approved yet, and the help page gives no approval timetable.
- To limit who sees your posts, check the profile privacy setting (see below).
Per Google, changes to a Search profile don’t affect how content ranks in Search or Discover. This is not a way to suppress other pages about you.

What making your profile private does and doesn’t do
According to Google’s profile, Search, App and Discover help page, a private profile limits visibility of your posts. Your profile name and picture may still appear in Search when connected with public activity, and posts may still show up. Treat privacy as a reduction in exposure, not a guaranteed disappearance.

If the result is a separate webpage with your personal information
Contact details: Results about you
For personal contact details such as an address, phone number or email, use Results about you. Sign in, open the feature, add the name and details to monitor, review matching results, and request removal where the option is offered. Google’s guide to finding and removing personal info notes that some features are still rolling out in certain markets, so availability varies. Google may decline when it sees public value, including some government, educational, newspaper or business pages.
Sensitive information
A separate process, Remove my private info from Google Search, covers certain sensitive data: financial or government identifiers, private records, credentials, or qualifying doxxing content. Requests apply to specific URLs and Search results.

Removing from Search is not removing from the web
Google removes results from Search, not the content from the hosting site. To get the information taken down at its source, contact the website owner. Once the page changes, Search can reflect it.

When a page has been edited or deleted but Google still shows the old text, submit the page through Refresh outdated content. There is also a process for outdated image results. This updates Search’s copy of a changed page; it won’t remove content that is still live.

If you run the site yourself, Google’s guidance on removing web results distinguishes between temporarily hiding a URL with the Search Console Removals tool and permanently removing the information at the source. If the source has already changed, you can ask Google to recrawl it or refresh the outdated content.
