To remove browser-added URLs, titles, dates, or page numbers from a webpage PDF, turn off the headers-and-footers option in the browser’s print dialog before saving. In Firefox, find Print headers and footers under More settings; in Edge, switch off Headers and footers. If the unwanted text is part of the webpage itself, this setting will not remove it.
First, identify what you need to remove
Browser-generated headers and footers are usually printed in the page margins and may show the page title, URL, date, or page number. Disable the print-dialog option to remove that material.
If the text or graphic sits within the webpage’s content area, it belongs to the page, not the browser’s print margins. Turn off the browser option anyway if needed, then use a reader or clutter-free view, print only the content you want, or edit the page before printing. Webpages can also be designed to render differently on paper than on screen.
Remove headers and footers in Firefox
- Open the webpage and open print preview.
- Choose Save to PDF as the destination.
- Expand More settings.
- Clear Print headers and footers.
- Review the preview, then save the PDF.
Firefox also provides controls for margins, scale, paper size, page format, and print backgrounds. If the page offers a Simplified format, it can change what is printed and cannot be combined with printing backgrounds. Mozilla’s Firefox print instructions describe these options.

Remove headers and footers in Microsoft Edge
- Open the page and choose Settings and more > Print. Alternatively, use Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on macOS.
- Expand More settings.
- Turn off Headers and footers.
- Choose the PDF destination, inspect the preview, and save.
When enabled, Edge’s setting adds the current date in the header and the page number in the footer. If page content itself is cluttered, Edge’s Immersive Reader can provide a clutter-free print route where the website supports it. Chrome and other Chromium browsers
Open print preview, locate the headers-and-footers option, turn it off, and save as PDF. The exact label and placement may differ by browser version. Chrome for Developers confirms that automatically generated headers and footers can be turned off in the print dialog; its documentation is about printed-page margins rather than a complete consumer menu walkthrough: Chrome print-margin documentation.

When print CSS is relevant
If you control the webpage, CSS page margins can affect whether Chromium has room to print its automatic margin text. Setting page margins to zero or too small to fit the text can suppress it, but this is a fallback, not the preferred fix for a one-off PDF: margins also determine content spacing. Chromium documents a caveat in which the first page’s available space can affect whether margin content appears on later pages.
When the setting is missing or locked
On a managed Edge installation, an administrator can control printing headers and footers with the PrintHeaderFooter policy. If unconfigured, users choose; if disabled, headers and footers are not printed; if enabled, they are always printed. Safari: what is and is not confirmed
Apple’s documented instructions confirm that Safari on iPhone can annotate and save a webpage as a PDF, but they do not establish how to disable browser-generated headers or footers. Do not assume that a particular Safari checkbox or menu path exists based on that documentation. See Apple’s Safari PDF instructions for iPhone.
Check the PDF before you rely on it
- Look at the preview and confirm the URL, date, title, or page number is gone.
- Check that the webpage’s actual content remains legible and has not shifted or been clipped.
- If unwanted material remains inside the content area, switch to a reader view where available or edit the page before printing; the margin checkbox cannot remove content authored by the site.
Print output can differ from the screen rendering. Firefox exposes margins and scale controls, and Microsoft recommends reviewing preview or test output when adjusting print sizing.

Can I remove the browser header and footer after the PDF has already been saved?
The browser print setting applies before saving. For an existing PDF, use a PDF editor to crop or redact the margin area.
