To remove a DLSS 5-style graphics mod safely, first use the uninstall or restore option in the same mod installer or manager that installed it. If you must clean up manually, remove only files that tool identifies as installed, restore its original-file backups, then use the game launcher’s file verification if available. Verification may repair game-managed files, but it is not guaranteed to remove every third-party mod file.
Choose the restore method that matches how the mod was installed
These restoration methods do different jobs; use the one that matches the changes made to your game.
| Method | Best fit | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| The same mod installer or manager’s restore/uninstall function | The tool installed the mod and offers a documented restore option. | Use that tool’s own instructions and installation record; a command documented for one tool is not universal. |
| Game launcher file verification | After mod-specific cleanup, to check or repair files managed by the game installation. | It is not established that every launcher’s verification removes every third-party mod file. |
| Manual cleanup and backup restoration | You know exactly which files the mod installed and have the corresponding original backups. | Removing the wrong file can affect the game or unrelated graphics mods. |
Remove the mod and restore the original files
- Close the game. Do not clean up files while the game is running.
- Run the mod’s own restore or uninstall action first, if available. This gives the installer or manager the chance to use its record of installed files and preserved originals.
- If following a manual procedure, use that mod’s documented file list. For the ShortFuse RenoDX/ReShade manual route, remove only files recorded as installed by that setup and restore the backed-up DLSS/Streamline files. Do not delete unrelated ReShade presets, settings, or other graphics mods. The Setup Helper documentation notes that some settings files are retained because they contain user-changed settings, while pre-existing settings files may be restored from backup. See the ShortFuse RenoDX/ReShade guide for its specific instructions.
- Verify the game files in its launcher, if that option is available. Run verification after mod-specific cleanup so the launcher can check or repair the game-managed files. Verification is a follow-up check, not a substitute for the mod’s own uninstall procedure.
- Launch the game and check the result. Confirm that the original graphics behavior is back and that other installed graphics mods or settings you intend to keep still work.
Use tool-specific commands only with that tool
The DLSS5 Swapper repository documents this command for a game managed by DLSS5 Swapper:
DLSS5-Swapper.ps1 -Uninstall -GamePath "C:GamesSomeGame"

- Powered by Radeon RX 9070 XT
- WINDFORCE Cooling System
- Hawk Fan
- Server-grade Thermal Conductive Gel
- RGB Lighting
It also documents a corresponding -Verify command. Follow the repository’s instructions for the path and invocation details; neither command is a general-purpose way to remove any DLSS-style mod. See the DLSS5 Swapper documentation.
When the original files are missing or the mod is experimental
Manual restoration depends on knowing which files the mod changed and having the original versions available. If you cannot identify the installed files or locate their backups, do not guess which DLLs or settings to delete. Use the mod’s documented recovery steps or the game launcher’s verification to repair game-managed files; the available guidance does not establish that verification will remove every third-party addition.

The ShortFuse RenoDX/ReShade guide describes its procedure as experimental, fast-changing, and not supported by NVIDIA. It summarizes a community thread rather than offering a tested compatibility guarantee, so treat it as specific guidance for that setup—not as official NVIDIA instructions or a procedure for every tool described as DLSS 5-style.
NVIDIA’s DLSS release guide discusses how game or application installers should package and remove DLSS libraries when uninstalling the application. That is guidance for application packaging, not a user-facing procedure for uninstalling a third-party graphics mod.

Check whether removing the mod affects a save
A save can depend on modded content, and removing that mod may make the save unusable or mean starting a new campaign. This is a general mod-removal caveat, not evidence that a graphics-only mod necessarily changes save data. Check the particular mod’s documentation and assess the save before removing it. SEGA’s mod-removal guidance likewise advises removing mods through the mod manager first and warns that a save may depend on a mod.
