Back up the archive first, then open the copyright notice, choose the edit that fits the claim, preview and save it, and verify the claim clears after processing. Since June 2025, saved Studio Editor changes cannot be reverted with “Revert to original,” so preserve a copy before you edit.
Before editing: save a copy of the archive
Download the video or use Google Takeout before making changes. YouTube warns: “Starting in June 2025, once you save your edited video, you will not be able to revert the changes.” The original may therefore be difficult to restore after you save an edit.
YouTube’s guidance for removing copyright-claimed content recommends preserving a copy before editing.
Remove the claimed content in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and select Content.
- Find the livestream archive and open its copyright notice. Select View details.
- Find the relevant claim and select Take Action.
- Choose the edit that matches the claimed material: Trim out segment for a video segment, or Replace song or Erase song for eligible audio claims.
- Make the edit and preview it. For a trim, adjust the start and end times so the entire claimed segment is covered.
- Save the edit. YouTube will process it; while processing is underway, the archive remains in its previous state and further edits are unavailable.
- When processing finishes, reload the page. Confirm the edit took effect and check whether the claim has cleared.
The claim clears automatically only if all claimed content is removed or replaced. If any claimed material remains, the claim will not be removed.

Choose the right fix for an audio claim
Audio edits trade off how much surrounding sound they preserve against how likely they are to remove the claimed material. YouTube’s Studio Editor guidance describes these options:

| Replace song | Replaces eligible claimed music with a track from the YouTube Audio Library. | Can retain audio in the segment with replacement music. |
| Erase song | Attempts to remove the claimed song while retaining speech and sound effects. | May fail, particularly when the music is difficult to separate. |
| Mute all sound in the claimed segments | Mutes all audio throughout the claimed interval. | Removes dialogue and sound effects too, but is usually faster and more likely to clear the audio claim. |
| Trim out segment | Removes the selected interval from the video. | Removes the footage as well as its audio; the entire claimed interval must be covered. |
Preview the result before saving. If a claim remains after processing, check whether any claimed audio or video is still present. Where appropriate, try a more complete mute or trim.

When editing is not the right response
A Content ID claim is not the same as a copyright takedown. A claim can affect a video’s viewing or monetization, and you can leave the archive as it is if you accept the claim and do not want to edit. You can also dispute a claim if you believe you have the necessary rights. YouTube does not mediate copyright disputes; an invalid dispute can lead the copyright owner to request removal. If the claim’s timestamps are inaccurate, YouTube’s guidance points creators to Creator Support. See YouTube’s explanation of Content ID claims.
A takedown request can remove the video and result in a copyright strike. Deleting a video does not resolve an existing strike; consult YouTube’s video-removal guidance if Studio identifies a removal or strike rather than a Content ID claim.

If the livestream archive is missing
YouTube says it can automatically archive livestreams shorter than 12 hours, including encoder, webcam, and mobile streams. This is not a guarantee that every shorter stream will be archived. A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup.
