You can register a .si domain name from outside Slovenia through a registrar that accepts customers in your country. Register.si’s published rules define a domain holder as a natural or legal person and do not state a Slovenian residency requirement, but each registrar may set its own customer, payment, and verification conditions.

How to register a .si domain from abroad

  1. Choose a registrar. Ordinary .si applications are submitted through a registrar, not directly to the registry. Use Register.si’s official site to find its registrar information, then confirm with the provider that it accepts applicants from your country and your preferred payment method.
  2. Check the domain name. Search the registrar’s availability tool before ordering. Check that the name is not reserved and follows the registry’s character rules: it must be 2–63 characters, cannot start or end with a hyphen, and generally cannot have consecutive hyphens in positions three and four, subject to the IDN ACE exception.
  3. Submit the application and contact details. Provide the holder and contact information requested by the registrar. Register.si says complete applications are processed automatically on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to registration conditions and payment through the registrar.
  4. Choose a registration term. The registry permits terms of one to five years. Keep your contact details current and arrange renewal before expiry.

Eligibility and information you may need to provide

Register.si’s General Terms and Conditions define a holder as a natural or legal person. They do not state that the holder must live in Slovenia or that an organization must be incorporated there. That does not guarantee that every registrar serves every country: check the specific registrar’s rules before paying.

Registration data must be accurate and up to date. At registration and renewal, the registrar verifies at least one contact detail—email or telephone—for the holder or administering contact. If a risk-based review indicates a possible malicious registration, the registrar may also verify the holder’s identity and postal address.

What appears in public registration data

Register.si says its public registration data is available through an RDAP-connected database. For legal entities, public data includes the holder, technical contact, and registrar information. For natural persons, only the contact email is published by default; additional disclosure is optional. See the registry’s data collection, verification, publication, and disclosure policy.

Check the name and its availability

Names must meet the 2–63 character length limit and registry character rules. A name cannot begin or end with a hyphen. Consecutive hyphens in the third and fourth positions are generally prohibited, with an exception for an allowed IDN ACE string. The registry identifies 113.si, 112.si, si.si, and rs.si as reserved for specified Slovenian public bodies. Use the registrar’s live search to check both availability and reservation status when you place the order; a name that fits the format is not necessarily available.

Renewal, expiry, and cancellation

Renew before expiry

A .si registration can be made for one to five years and is renewable. If you do not renew, the domain enters quarantine after expiry. Register.si’s terms set a maximum quarantine period of 30 days, and its public guidance describes a 30-day quarantine. Check the registrar’s renewal process and timing so you do not rely on the quarantine period as extra time to use the domain.

Cancellation and returns

Register.si’s registration and return guidance says a holder may cancel within 16 days of registration, but a return is unavailable after the service has been activated. For a domain, the registry considers activation to occur when nameserver records have been submitted to its activation systems. Its guidance says an eligible domain must show WHOIS status “inactive” and RGP status “Add Period.” Since the registrar handles your purchase, read its contract and cancellation instructions before relying on the registry’s return guidance.

What to compare when choosing a registrar

  • Whether it currently offers .si registration and accepts customers in your country.
  • The total first-term and renewal price, including any applicable fees.
  • Accepted payment methods and any account, contact, or identity checks.
  • Whether DNS management or hosting is included or must be arranged separately.
  • Its renewal, cancellation, and return procedures.

These conditions vary by provider. Confirm them directly with the registrar before submitting an application.
