To reduce keyboard and fan noise on a Shure MV6, enable its denoiser in Shure MOTIV Mix, position the mic 6–12 inches from your mouth with its front aimed at you, and keep noisy sources toward the rear when your setup allows. Use the 75 Hz or 150 Hz high-pass filter for low rumble—not as a fix for sharp keyboard clicks. Check whether you have the original MV6 or the MV6 Gen 2 before following app instructions: their denoiser controls differ.

First, identify your MV6 generation

Shure announced the MV6 Gen 2 on September 30, 2026. The original MV6 guide documents a Real-time Denoiser on/off control, while Shure describes Gen 2 as having an adjustable denoiser slider. If MOTIV Mix shows a slider, follow the Gen 2 control; do not assume the original MV6 has that adjustment.

MV6 Gen 2 Adjustable slider; Shure says it controls how much room sound remains Universal 5/8-inch thread for a standard boom arm and an isolation base

These are documented feature differences, not results from a head-to-head noise test. See Shure’s MV6 Gen 2 announcement and the original MV6 User Guide.

Enable the denoiser in MOTIV Mix

Original MV6

  1. Connect the MV6 to your computer by USB-C and open Shure MOTIV Mix.
  2. Select the MV6, open its device settings, and enable Real-time Denoiser.
  3. Record or monitor a short sample with your usual typing and fan running. Listen to both your voice and the background before making further changes.

Shure describes the feature as helping reduce unwanted noise; it is not a guarantee of a silent background or removal of every keystroke. The control and app workflow are documented in the MV6 User Guide.

MV6 Gen 2

Use the denoiser slider in MOTIV Mix if your device is Gen 2. Shure says the slider controls how much room sound remains and gives fans and keyboards as examples of background noise it can address. Set it while listening to your voice: reducing room sound more aggressively may change the balance between your voice and ambience, so choose a level that sounds natural for your recording. This guidance describes Shure’s announced control, not a measured noise-removal result.

Position the mic to favor your voice

Shure’s MOTIV Mix guidance is to keep the microphone as close as possible, giving 6–12 inches from the mouth as a practical range to avoid unwanted room reflections and reverberation. Aim the MV6’s front toward your mouth. Its cardioid pickup pattern supports placing the loudest unwanted source—such as the keyboard or fan—toward the rear when practical. This is directional setup advice, not a quantified guarantee that the mic will reject a particular keyboard or fan.

Try moving the mic closer before raising gain. A close position makes your voice the intended foreground source; moving the keyboard or fan farther away from the mic, if possible, also changes the geometry. Shure’s MOTIV Mix guide provides the placement guidance, and the MV6 product page identifies its dynamic capsule and cardioid pattern.

Use the high-pass filter for rumble, not clicks

The original MV6 guide offers high-pass filter settings at 75 Hz and 150 Hz to reduce unwanted low-frequency rumbling. Try a setting if the background includes low mechanical rumble or vibration, then check that your voice still sounds right. These settings are not evidence that the filter removes sharp keyboard transients; clicks often need better mic placement or a reduction in the noise source itself.

Adjust gain and check the result

The original MV6 supports Auto Level and Manual gain. If keyboard noise is prominent, try Manual mode and adjust the level while speaking at your normal distance and volume. Make one change at a time and listen back: a setting that captures your voice clearly should not be judged only by how quiet the room sounds between words. This is a practical setup approach, not a published comparative test of the two modes.

When a boom arm or isolation base helps

Shure says MV6 Gen 2 has a universal 5/8-inch thread for a standard boom arm and an isolation base intended to minimize desk bumps and vibrations. A boom arm can help place the mic close to your mouth or keep it away from desk-transmitted bumps. Those hardware details do not establish that an arm blocks airborne keyboard clicks or fan noise; address those with placement, denoising, or changes to the noisy source.

What to do if the fan is still audible

  • Confirm that the correct denoiser control for your generation is enabled or adjusted.
  • Move the mic closer to your mouth and orient its front toward you; place the fan toward its rear if the room layout permits.
  • Try the high-pass filter only if the sound is low-frequency rumble, and check that it does not harm your voice.
  • If the fan remains loud at the mic, move the mic or fan, or change the room/setup arrangement. The cited Shure documentation does not quantify how much noise the MV6 removes in a particular room.
