Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To reduce buffering on a 24/7 mantra stream, first find out whether the problem is at YouTube’s incoming stream or only on certain viewers’ devices. Then match your encoder bitrate to your video settings, leave upload bandwidth headroom, and use normal latency if you do not need real-time interaction. Lower latency can make playback more prone to interruptions.
First find where the buffering is happening
Buffering can originate in the stream you send to YouTube or in an individual viewer’s connection and playback setup. Do not raise your encoder bitrate until you know which side is affected: a higher bitrate can make a weak viewer connection struggle more.
- Check Live Control Room. Open the stream’s preview and stream-health indicators, and note any encoder warnings or connection problems. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance recommends checking stream health and testing the setup.
- Compare reports. Ask whether multiple viewers on different devices and connections experience buffering at the same time. If only one viewer reports it while your stream health looks good, investigate that viewer’s network or playback device rather than changing the outgoing bitrate.
- Check timing and pattern. Note whether the issue is continuous, intermittent, or tied to a particular device or network. A short network speed test cannot guarantee stable upload throughput during a continuous broadcast; congestion and brief disruptions can still interrupt it.
Set an encoder bitrate that fits the stream
Bitrate depends on resolution, frame rate, and codec. The following are YouTube’s H.264 recommendations for common settings, not universal targets for every codec or stream. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate table for the exact combination you use.
| Resolution and frame rate | H.264 recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
Use constant bitrate (CBR), which YouTube recommends for live encoding. Its encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingestion; follow the current codec-specific recommendations rather than applying H.264 numbers to another codec. Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds, and do not exceed 4 seconds, as YouTube recommends. Avoid raising resolution or frame rate just to improve smoothness: a more demanding output needs more sustained upload capacity.

Leave upload capacity for fluctuations and backups
YouTube recommends keeping 20% of upload bandwidth in reserve. For example, if the outgoing stream uses 10 Mbps, plan for at least 12.5 Mbps of usable upload capacity for that stream alone: 10 Mbps is 80% of 12.5 Mbps. This is a planning calculation, not a guarantee that the connection will remain stable.
- Count both the primary and backup encoder outputs if they are active at the same time.
- Account for other devices and applications sharing the connection; they can reduce the capacity available to the encoder.
- Prefer a stable wired connection where practical, and watch for congestion or brief drops rather than relying only on an average speed-test result.
YouTube’s streaming tips say to leave room for the primary and backup streams and other network use. A connection that appears fast enough on average can still have interruptions that affect a 24/7 stream.

Choose latency for a mantra stream
A mostly non-interactive mantra broadcast usually does not need viewers to respond in real time. Normal latency is the sensible starting point: YouTube describes it as the option with the least viewer buffering. Low latency is a compromise for limited interaction; YouTube says most viewers experience latency under 10 seconds in that mode. Ultra-low latency targets real-time interaction, with most viewers experiencing latency under five seconds, but may increase buffering. Those times describe latency, not buffering rates.
YouTube explains that lower latency reduces the read-ahead buffer and warns, “With a lower latency, your viewers may experience more playback buffering.” See Understand live streaming latency before changing the setting. Low and ultra-low latency also do not support 4K, according to that page. Network congestion can cause problems even when average connection capacity seems sufficient.

Help viewers who are the only ones affected
If one viewer or a small subset reports buffering while the stream’s health is good, ask them to try these checks:
- Switch to another network, such as a different Wi-Fi network or mobile data, to see whether the issue follows the connection.
- Try another device or an updated browser or YouTube app.
- Clear the YouTube app cache where the device provides that option.
- On a television, use the default broadcast delay when available. YouTube says this setting is best for minimizing interruptions during TV playback.
These are viewer-side checks, not fixes to the broadcaster’s encoder. YouTube’s playback troubleshooting guidance covers connection and device issues.

Test and monitor the continuous stream
A successful short test does not establish that a setup will remain healthy indefinitely. Before relying on a 24/7 broadcast, test with representative audio and movement, check the preview, and confirm that the stream plays on the devices your audience uses. If you have a backup encoder, verify that failover actually works. Continue checking stream health after launch; ongoing monitoring can reveal drops or quality changes that a setup test missed. YouTube’s live streaming tips recommend testing, previewing, and monitoring.

YouTube’s encoder directory lists the AJA HELO Plus as a standalone H.264 encoder with a feature for scheduling pre-recorded media to YouTube Live without a computer, and Upstream as a cloud studio for 24/7 live video streaming. These are workflow options; the cited YouTube material does not establish that either prevents network congestion or viewer-side buffering.
