To recover an XSplit Broadcaster scene, restore the presentation that contains it: open File, hold Shift, and click Load presentation…. Choose a backed-up presentation in the prompt, then check its scene list. A scene belongs to a presentation, so make sure the correct presentation is loaded before concluding the scene is missing.
Restore the presentation containing your scene
- Launch XSplit Broadcaster after restarting Windows.
- Open File.
- Hold Shift and click Load presentation…. XSplit says this opens a prompt listing backed-up presentations.
- Select the backup that should contain the missing scene.
- Check the scene list in the loaded presentation.
XSplit says Broadcaster automatically saves presentation backups in case the program closes unexpectedly or a presentation was not saved. It also says you can open the recovery prompt by holding Shift while Broadcaster is loading after you log in. The documentation does not specify how long backups are retained or where they are stored on disk.
If the scene still does not appear
Confirm the active presentation
A presentation contains scenes, and each scene contains sources. If you restored a different presentation than the one you used before the restart, the expected scene may not be in its scene list. Load the relevant presentation backup and check again.
Load a separately saved scene
If you saved the scene separately, use the scene save/load controls in XSplit Broadcaster’s File menu. This is distinct from restoring an entire presentation through the Shift recovery prompt.

Make a separate export for safekeeping
After restoring the presentation, you can create a separate export through Extensions > Presentation Packager. XSplit’s Presentation Packager can create a self-contained BPZip presentation or a BPres file with its corresponding source folder. This is an export for portability or an additional backup; it is not the file used by the recovery prompt.
You can keep a second copy of the export in another location, such as an external drive. XSplit documents the export formats but does not recommend a particular storage device.

If Broadcaster keeps crashing
XSplit documents automatically generated Broadcaster dump files under %ProgramData%XSplitBroadcaster. A dump file is for diagnosing a crash, not restoring a scene. If XSplit Support requests one, follow its instructions to compress and share the file.
The recovery instructions do not guarantee that every presentation or scene can be restored, and do not explain how to restore backups manually outside Broadcaster. XSplit’s statement that scenes, sources, and settings stayed on-device concerned its 2025 infrastructure transition; it is not a guarantee that files survive every restart, crash, reinstall, Windows user-profile change, or storage failure.
