Read Urban Company’s results in five separate layers: NTV for platform activity, revenue from operations for the accounting top line, adjusted EBITDA for management’s operating view, statutory Ind AS profit or loss for the reported bottom line, and the cash-flow statement for liquidity. These measures answer different questions, so rising NTV or revenue does not by itself mean the company is profitable or generating cash.
For the latest quarter, Q1 FY27 ended June 30, 2026, the central issue is the split between a profitable core business and continued investment in InstaHelp. The most reliable reading keeps those businesses separate, checks the reconciliation from adjusted EBITDA to statutory loss, and refuses to infer cash generation from either EBITDA or accounting profit.
The correct order for reading Urban Company’s results
Begin with operating activity, then move through accounting and liquidity. A quick read should follow this sequence:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- NTV: measure the gross value transacted on the platform.
- Revenue from operations: identify what is recognized as accounting revenue.
- Adjusted EBITDA: assess the operating-profitability view presented by management, both consolidated and excluding major investment businesses.
- Statutory Ind AS result: check the reported loss or profit and earnings per share.
- Cash flow: verify whether operations actually produced cash after working-capital movements and investment.
Keeping these layers separate prevents the most common mistake: treating a platform’s transaction value as its revenue, or treating an adjusted operating metric as net profit.

The key Q1 FY27 figures
| Metric | Q1 FY27 result | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Net Transaction Value (NTV) | ₹1,465 crore, up 42% year over year | Gross value transacted through the platform; not accounting revenue |
| Revenue from operations | ₹528 crore, up 44% year over year | Accounting top line for the consolidated business |
| Consolidated adjusted EBITDA | ₹65 crore loss | Management’s operating metric before the items included in its statutory reconciliation |
| Adjusted EBITDA excluding InstaHelp | ₹67 crore profit, equal to 4.8% of NTV | Indicates the profitability of the business outside the newer InstaHelp investment |
| Statutory consolidated total loss | ₹9,212 lakh, or ₹92.12 crore | Reported Ind AS loss; not interchangeable with adjusted EBITDA |
| Basic EPS | -₹0.60 | Loss attributable per basic share in the unaudited exchange filing |
The figures above come from Urban Company’s Q1 FY27 results release and the NSE filing dated for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. The NSE filing presents the rupee amounts in lakhs and says the results are unaudited, prepared under Ind AS 34 and the SEBI LODR requirements.
NTV and revenue answer different questions
Net Transaction Value is the gross value of transactions completed on the platform. It is a demand and marketplace-scale indicator: how much customers spent on services or products transacted through Urban Company’s ecosystem.
Revenue from operations is the amount recognized under the company’s accounting policies. It can be lower than NTV because a platform may record only its commission, service fee, product sale or other recognized share rather than the full amount paid by a customer. Segment mix and the way products and services are accounted for also affect the relationship.

Use the two figures together rather than substituting one for the other. If NTV rises while revenue grows more slowly, investigate mix, take-rate changes and accounting presentation. If revenue grows faster than NTV, check whether products, international operations or another higher-revenue-share activity changed the mix. The ratio of revenue to NTV can be calculated as a rough analytical indicator, but it is not automatically a reported take rate and should not be described as one without a company definition.
In FY26, Urban Company reported NTV of ₹4,290 crore and revenue from operations of ₹1,556 crore. Those annual figures provide the denominator and context for judging whether a single quarter reflects a durable trend or a seasonal movement.

What the latest quarter says when compared with earlier periods
Comparing the latest quarter with both the immediately preceding quarter and the full-year baseline shows momentum, sequential improvement and the cost of expansion at the same time.
| Period | NTV | Revenue from operations | Consolidated adjusted EBITDA | Adjusted EBITDA excluding InstaHelp |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Q1 FY27 | ₹1,465 crore; +42% YoY | ₹528 crore; +44% YoY | ₹65 crore loss | ₹67 crore profit; 4.8% of NTV |
| Q4 FY26 | ₹1,148 crore; +42% YoY | ₹426 crore; +43% YoY | ₹98 crore loss | ₹22 crore profit |
| FY26 | ₹4,290 crore; +31% YoY | ₹1,556 crore; +36% YoY | ₹129 crore loss | ₹106 crore profit |
The sequential movement in adjusted EBITDA is important: the consolidated loss narrowed from Q4 FY26 to Q1 FY27, while the business excluding InstaHelp remained profitable. That is an improvement in the reported operating metric, but it does not mean the consolidated company had positive adjusted EBITDA or positive statutory earnings.

Orders and user additions add operating context
Q1 FY27 orders reached 13.2 million, an increase of 79% year over year, and Urban Company added approximately 1.2 million new users. Orders can grow faster than NTV when average order value or service mix changes, so read order growth alongside NTV rather than treating it as a substitute. New-user additions indicate reach and acquisition, but the results do not by themselves establish retention, repeat frequency or the cost of acquiring those users.
Adjusted EBITDA is not statutory profit
Adjusted EBITDA is a management-defined operating measure. It is useful for comparing the operating performance of businesses or periods after the company’s specified adjustments, but the adjustment list and reconciliation determine exactly what has been excluded. It is not a measure prescribed in the same way as the Ind AS profit-and-loss statement.
The statutory result is the accounting outcome after the items required by Ind AS and the company’s reported reconciliation. In Q1 FY27, consolidated adjusted EBITDA was a ₹65 crore loss, while the statutory consolidated total loss was ₹9,212 lakh. The gap is not an error: the two measures have different definitions and can include different operating, non-operating, non-cash, financing, tax or exceptional effects. Do not guess the bridge. Read the reconciliation in the results release or filing and note whether each adjustment is recurring.

How to use the two measures together
- Use adjusted EBITDA to ask whether the operating model is improving before the company’s stated adjustments.
- Use statutory loss to assess the result that flows into shareholders’ reported earnings.
- Check whether adjustments are concentrated in a new business, a one-time event or a recurring cost.
- Use basic EPS as a per-share cross-check, not as a replacement for the income statement.
Urban Company’s Q1 release described the quarter as one of its strongest, with broad-based growth and record profitability in its core business. That wording refers to the core view, not to consolidated statutory profitability. The same release said the company continues to invest in InstaHelp to solidify market leadership; that stated strategy explains why consolidated and core metrics diverge.
Why InstaHelp changes the consolidated answer
InstaHelp is the main source of the difference between the core result and the consolidated result in Q1 FY27. It recorded a ₹132 crore adjusted EBITDA loss in the quarter. Excluding InstaHelp, consolidated adjusted EBITDA was a ₹67 crore profit. Within that view, India Consumer Services excluding InstaHelp generated ₹73 crore of adjusted EBITDA, equal to 6.9% of NTV.
This is an investment question, not merely a loss question. A reader should ask whether the losses are producing faster supply, demand, order density or future contribution margin, and whether the company can fund the expansion. The current figures establish the size of the investment and the profitability of the other businesses; they do not prove when InstaHelp will break even.
Read the four reportable segments separately
The exchange filing identifies four reportable segments. Compare each on growth, profitability and investment intensity rather than relying only on the consolidated total.
| Segment | What it includes | Q1 FY27 data disclosed |
|---|---|---|
| India Consumer Services excluding InstaHelp | India online marketplace activity plus products, tools and consumables sold to service professionals | ₹73 crore adjusted EBITDA; 6.9% of NTV |
| Native | Urban Company’s branded products | ₹95 crore net revenue; 60% growth; ₹9 crore adjusted EBITDA loss |
| International business | Marketplace operations outside India | NTV of ₹237 crore; 76% growth |
| InstaHelp | Daily cleaning and housekeeping | 3.82 million orders, up 43% quarter over quarter; ₹132 crore adjusted EBITDA loss |
India Consumer Services excluding InstaHelp
This is the clearest view of the established consumer-services marketplace and its professional-supply products. Its positive adjusted EBITDA contribution is why the core business can be profitable even when the consolidated company is not. Track its NTV growth, margin as a percentage of NTV and absolute contribution over several quarters.

International business
International NTV grew 76% year over year to ₹237 crore in Q1 FY27. Growth should be tested against local contribution margins, currency effects and market-entry costs in the segment disclosures; a high NTV growth rate alone does not establish profitability.
Native
Native generated ₹95 crore of net revenue, up 60%, but reported a ₹9 crore adjusted EBITDA loss. That combination signals a product business still spending to build scale, distribution or support. Read net revenue rather than NTV for this segment and watch whether losses narrow as volume increases.
InstaHelp
InstaHelp’s 3.82 million orders, up 43% quarter over quarter, show rapid activity growth, while its ₹132 crore adjusted EBITDA loss shows the cost of that expansion. The relevant next-quarter questions are whether order growth continues, whether unit economics improve and whether the loss narrows without reducing service availability.
Native products and what their numbers mean
Urban Company said it launched the Native M3 Pro water purifier, engineered for a three-year maintenance-free life, and Lock Ultra, a smart lock with two-way video calling and facial-recognition unlock features. These launches help explain why Native should be analyzed as a branded-products segment rather than as a pure services marketplace.

The segment’s Q1 FY27 net revenue of ₹95 crore and adjusted EBITDA loss of ₹9 crore should be read with product-level questions: warranty and maintenance obligations, repeat purchases, installation economics, inventory investment and the time required to reach scale. The quarterly figures do not establish the profitability of either individual product.

How to read cash flow without making an unsupported conclusion
Cash flow must be checked in the complete results package. The retrieved NSE Q1 FY27 results page leaves the cash-flow applicability and type fields blank, so it does not establish whether operating cash flow was positive or negative. Neither adjusted EBITDA nor statutory loss can answer that question.
Use the cash-flow statement in this order
- Operating cash flow: check cash generated from operations after working-capital movements. Compare it with the period’s operating result, but do not expect an exact match.
- Working capital: inspect receivables, payables, contract balances, inventories and other operating assets or liabilities. A profitable quarter can consume cash if these balances absorb funds.
- Investing cash flow: identify spending on technology, equipment, product development or acquisitions. Native and InstaHelp expansion can require investment that is not visible in adjusted EBITDA.
- Financing cash flow: identify equity issuance, borrowings, repayments, lease payments or distributions.
- Cash balance and liquidity: compare opening and closing cash, restricted cash and available facilities, then assess how long current investment can be funded.
Urban Company’s investor-relations financials page is the place to locate the shareholder letter, KPI data book, press release and earnings-call transcript alongside the formal filing. Use those documents to find the complete cash-flow statement and management’s explanation; do not describe cash generation until the statement has been reviewed.
How to read the NSE filing’s units and status
The Q1 FY27 exchange filing reports revenue from operations of ₹52,834 lakh, total profit or loss of ₹(9,212) lakh and basic EPS of -₹0.60. Convert lakhs before comparing the filing with a release stated in crores: 100 lakh equals ₹1 crore, so ₹52,834 lakh equals ₹528.34 crore and ₹9,212 lakh equals ₹92.12 crore.
The filing is unaudited and covers the quarter ended June 30, 2026. Treat it as the company’s reported interim result, not as a final audited annual statement. Ind AS 34 governs interim financial reporting, while SEBI LODR provides the listed-company disclosure framework cited in the filing.
A practical checklist for every quarterly release
- Write down the period, whether each number is consolidated or segment-level, and whether it is quarterly, sequential or year-over-year.
- Keep NTV and revenue in separate columns in your notes.
- Record both consolidated adjusted EBITDA and the company’s disclosed view excluding major investment businesses.
- Read the adjusted-EBITDA reconciliation before describing any adjustment as one-time or non-cash.
- Convert lakhs and crores to the same unit before calculating growth or margins.
- Check orders and users for demand scale, then test whether growth is translating into contribution.
- Review each reportable segment for growth, margin and investment intensity.
- Find the full cash-flow statement and closing cash balance before making a liquidity judgment.
- Use EPS as a per-share outcome and verify whether the filing is audited or unaudited.
- Compare at least the latest quarter, the preceding quarter and the latest full financial year.
Questions to ask before reaching a verdict
Is Urban Company growing?
Yes, the Q1 FY27 release shows strong year-over-year growth in NTV, revenue, orders and users. Growth quality still depends on mix, repeat behavior and the economics of each segment.
Is Urban Company profitable?
The answer depends on the definition. The business excluding InstaHelp reported positive adjusted EBITDA, while consolidated adjusted EBITDA and statutory Ind AS earnings were both negative in Q1 FY27.
Are the losses necessarily a sign of deterioration?
Not necessarily. The largest adjusted-EBITDA loss is concentrated in InstaHelp, which the company says it is funding to build market leadership. That may be a deliberate investment strategy, but the results do not yet establish its eventual return.
