To reach the castle bonfire in Valor Mortis, enter the Fortress, travel below the Chapel through the underground sewer section, and find the side room containing a sword planted in an unlit bonfire. Cast Fire Transmutation on that sword. The flame ignites immediately and awards the bronze Frenzied Flame trophy or achievement.
You must have Fortress access and Fire Transmutation before this interaction is available. The same sword can also be reached from the Ramparts lantern by taking a ladder, swinging across with a blue pole, passing the webbed barrier, and following the hallway.
What you need before entering the bonfire room
The bonfire interaction is gated by two progression requirements:

- Fire Transmutation. This is the ability used on the sword. Reaching the room without it does not complete the trophy requirement.
The progression sequence described for this area places Fortress access after the University-key portion of the campaign and the poison-protection progression. If the Fortress doors or its Chapel and Ramparts lanterns are not available in your game, continue the campaign until those progression steps are complete.

There is no separate key, consumable, boss victory, or collectible specified for the bonfire itself. The required object is the sword already planted in the bonfire, and the required action is casting Fire Transmutation on it.
Fastest route from Fortress > Chapel
The Chapel route is the most direct path when your current lantern is Fortress > Chapel. Follow the area landmarks in this order: underground passage, sewer room, pole-jump section, left-hand door, two stair descents, and the side room with the sword.
- Start at Fortress > Chapel. Use the Chapel lantern as your reference point and descend into the underground section.
- Continue to the sewer room. Keep moving through the underground route until you reach the sewer room rather than turning back toward the Chapel.
- Complete the pole-jump section. Proceed through the area where the route requires jumping or swinging across the poles. The relevant door is beyond this section.
- Take the door on the left. After the pole-jump area, use the left-hand door. Choosing a different door can send you away from the bonfire route.
- Go down the stairs. Enter the stairwell and descend the first flight.
- Turn left at the bottom. Do not continue straight through the lower passage; make the left turn at the base of the first flight.
- Descend the second flight. Follow that turn to another staircase and go down again.
- Enter the room on the left. The target room is a side room off the lower passage. Inside, look for a sword planted in the ground inside the bonfire.
- Cast Fire Transmutation on the sword. Aim the ability at the sword itself, not at a random section of the floor or the surrounding room, and activate it.
The flame catches as soon as the ability reaches the sword. The Frenzied Flame trophy or achievement notification should then appear, completing the objective.

Finding the room from Fortress > Ramparts
If you are already at Fortress > Ramparts, you can reach the same bonfire without returning to the Chapel. This route is identified by a ladder, a large room, a blue pole, a webbed or tendril-covered barrier, and a long hallway.
- Turn back into the building behind the Lantern. From the Ramparts lantern, enter the building behind it rather than continuing outward along the ramparts.
- Descend the nearby ladder. The ladder is near the entrance. Climb down into the large room below.
- Use the blue pole to swing across. In the large room, locate the blue pole and use it to swing to the door on the left.
- Crouch under the webbed or tendril barrier. The left-hand route is blocked at low height by webs or tendrils. Crouch to pass beneath the barrier.
- Go down the stairs. Continue through the opening and descend the staircase.
- Follow the long hallway. Stay in the hallway until you are close to its far end.
- Enter the room on the left. The bonfire room is on the left near the end of the hallway. Inside is the same sword planted in the bonfire.
- Cast Fire Transmutation on the sword. Use the ability on the sword to ignite the bonfire and trigger Frenzied Flame.
The Ramparts route and the Chapel route end at the same object and use the same ability. The difference is only the starting lantern and the landmarks used to navigate there.

Choose the route based on the lantern you can reach most easily. If the sewer and pole-jump landmarks are familiar, Chapel is straightforward. If you are already on the Ramparts, the ladder and blue-pole sequence avoids an unnecessary trip back to Chapel.

How to identify the correct bonfire room
The target is not a general fire, a checkpoint found elsewhere in the Fortress, or an object that requires a key. It is a distinctive side room containing a sword standing in the ground inside the bonfire. That sword is the visual confirmation that you have reached the correct location.
- From Chapel, the room is reached after the sewer and pole-jump section, the left-side door, and the two stair descents.
- From Ramparts, the room is on the left near the end of the long hallway after the ladder, blue-pole swing, webbed barrier, and stairs.
- Both approaches converge on the same sword and bonfire.
If the room you enter does not contain the sword-in-bonfire arrangement, you have not reached the objective room. Return to the last confirmed landmark instead of repeatedly casting the ability in an unrelated area.
Using Fire Transmutation correctly
Stand close enough to the bonfire room’s sword for the ability to reach it, then cast Fire Transmutation while targeting the sword. The documented interaction is ability-based: the sword is the target, and ignition occurs immediately when the ability is applied.

- Check that Fire Transmutation is available in your current loadout or ability selection.
- Face the sword embedded in the bonfire.
- Activate Fire Transmutation and keep the aim on the sword until the cast connects.
- Wait for the flame to catch and for the Frenzied Flame trophy or achievement notification to display.
You do not need to search the room for another switch after the sword ignites. The ignition is the completion condition described for this objective.

The documented reward is the bronze Frenzied Flame trophy or its platform achievement. The notification appears immediately after Fire Transmutation strikes the sword.
No boss encounter, item drop, or additional follow-up objective is documented as part of this room. Once the sword has been ignited and the trophy notification has appeared, the bonfire objective is complete.

Route troubleshooting
You cannot enter the Fortress
Confirm that the campaign has reached the University-key portion and that the poison-protection progression has been obtained. Fortress access is a prerequisite; the bonfire cannot be reached through an earlier area substitute.
You reached the room but nothing happened
Verify that you have Fire Transmutation and are aiming at the sword planted in the bonfire. The documented trigger is not a general proximity check: it is the ability striking that sword.
You are lost below the Chapel
Use the landmarks as a reset sequence: sewer room, pole-jump section, left door, first stair descent, left turn, second stair descent, then the room on the left. If one of those landmarks has not appeared, continue searching the current section rather than assuming you are already at the bonfire.

Return to the building behind the Ramparts Lantern and confirm the order: ladder down, blue pole to the left-hand door, crouch under the webbed or tendril barrier, stairs down, long hallway, room on the left near the end.
The trophy notification is easy to miss
Watch for the platform notification immediately after the sword ignites. If you did not see it, check whether the flame actually caught and whether Fire Transmutation connected with the sword. Repeating the cast on the correct target is more useful than exploring for an undocumented second trigger.
A practical pre-run checklist
- Fortress is unlocked and you can use either the Chapel or Ramparts lantern.
- Fire Transmutation is obtained and available to cast.
- You know which starting lantern you are using.
- For Chapel: you can identify the sewer room, pole-jump section, left door, and both stair flights.
- For Ramparts: you can identify the building behind the Lantern, ladder, blue pole, webbed barrier, and long hallway.
- You will target the sword planted in the bonfire rather than another object.
- You will wait for the Frenzied Flame notification after ignition.
Completion summary
From Fortress > Chapel, descend underground, pass the sewer and pole-jump section, take the left door, turn left after the first stairs, descend the second flight, and enter the room on the left. From Fortress > Ramparts, enter the building behind the Lantern, descend the ladder, swing with the blue pole to the left door, crouch under the webbed barrier, descend the stairs, and take the left room near the end of the hallway. In either case, cast Fire Transmutation on the sword planted in the bonfire. The flame ignites immediately and awards Frenzied Flame.
