To request another evaluation of your farm, place one Diamond in Grandpa’s Shrine in the northwest corner of your farm. Grandpa will return to judge your current progress; if the evaluation lights all four candles, interact with the shrine to collect the Statue of Perfection. Improve your milestones before offering the Diamond if you want a better chance at the four-candle result.
How to request a re-evaluation
- Check the shrine’s candle count. The first evaluation happens at dawn on Year 3, and a result below four candles does not close off future attempts.
- Make any progress you want counted. Grandpa’s score is based on farm and player milestones. Offering a Diamond does not automatically improve the score; it triggers another evaluation of your current progress.
- Put one Diamond in the shrine. Find Grandpa’s Shrine in the northwestern corner of the farm and place one in its slot. The Diamond is consumed as an in-game offering.
- Wait for Grandpa’s return. He generally appears the following day. After the qualifying evaluation, interact with the shrine to collect the reward if all four candles are lit.
The game’s shrine note says, “Wait for my return at the dawn of the 3rd year.” When the re-evaluation slot is available, its prompt reads, “There’s a diamond-shaped slot in the shrine… was that always there?” These in-game messages are transcribed on the Stardew Valley Wiki’s Grandpa page.

How the candle score works
The evaluation has a maximum of 21 points. Candle count is determined by the total: 0–3 points lights one candle, 4–7 lights two, 8–11 lights three, and 12 or more lights all four. You need four candles to qualify for the Statue of Perfection.
Milestones you can work toward
The following point opportunities are listed for Grandpa’s evaluation. Earnings rows are cumulative score levels: use the points for the highest threshold you have reached, rather than adding every row together.

The cellar is not required for the marriage-and-home point. Friendship scoring is based on a value slightly below the visible eight-heart threshold, but the exact relationship value is not shown in the game. If you choose the Joja Warehouse route instead of completing the Community Center, the Community Center and ceremony points are unavailable.
Use the checklist to identify milestones you have not yet reached and estimate whether they could move your score to 12. The available milestones do not establish one best order for every farm; choose goals that fit your current progress.
When Grandpa returns, and what to do if the scene is delayed
The wiki describes the return as generally happening the day after you offer the Diamond, but records cases where the event waits until a game load or the beginning of the next season. Its timing information is not a platform-by-platform comparison, so do not assume the scene will appear the next morning on every platform or version.
There is also a documented cutscene-order exception: if you marry on Year 3, Spring 1, the marriage scene can take precedence over Grandpa’s evaluation. The shrine still reflects the rating, and the evaluation cutscene plays the next time you enter the farmhouse.

What the four-candle reward does
At 12 or more points, all four candles light. Interact with Grandpa’s Shrine to receive the Statue of Perfection, which produces 2–8 Iridium Ore per day according to the Stardew Valley Wiki’s Statue of Perfection page. The evaluation itself has no other effect on the game, and you can continue playing indefinitely.
