To pursue a vote in the BAFTA Games Awards, the documented route is BAFTA Full Voting Membership—not simply entering a game, buying a ticket, or joining any BAFTA branch. BAFTA says its next Full Voting (Global) application opportunity will be in 2027 and invites prospective applicants to register interest; it has not published an exact opening date. Eligibility depends on professional experience and contribution, and membership does not mean that members decide every award: the 2027 rules divide voting among members, craft chapters and juries.
How do I become a BAFTA Games voter?
Start by checking BAFTA’s Full Voting Membership criteria, then register your interest on its Full Voting Membership page for the next application opportunity. BAFTA says that opportunity is expected in 2027. That is the membership timetable, not an announced application opening date or a guarantee that an applicant will be admitted in time to vote in a particular awards round.
Prepare a clear account of your credits, career history, qualifying role and contribution to screen arts. BAFTA does not publish a sponsor requirement or promise acceptance to people who register interest. Its published selection process includes an initial eligibility and completeness check, assessment by elected sector-committee members, and final approval by the Board of Trustees.
- Check the role and experience criteria. Confirm that your career history supports the required five years in a key creative, head-of-department or senior executive role, and that you meet at least one of BAFTA’s additional criteria.
- Register interest for the 2027 intake. Use BAFTA’s Full Voting Membership page rather than treating a Games Awards entry or another membership category as an application for voting status.
- Prepare accurate supporting information. Organize relevant credits, dates, roles and evidence of your contribution so the membership team can assess eligibility and completeness. Do not assume an unpublished document format or endorsement is required.
- Submit an application when BAFTA opens the opportunity. The reviewed notice does not state the opening date. Follow BAFTA’s instructions when they are available; registering interest is not itself an application or an approval.
- Wait for the decision and, if accepted, take up the offer on time. BAFTA contacts successful and unsuccessful applicants. Successful applicants are expected to pay within four weeks of the offer.
BAFTA says it provides help with fees and accessible submission methods. It does not offer individual feedback on unsuccessful applications or an appeal, but applicants may apply again later. The membership year runs from June 1 to May 31, and new-member fees are not prorated.

Who is eligible for Full Voting Membership?
BAFTA’s criteria focus on substantial professional work connected to UK screen arts, not nationality or an existing award. The published baseline is five years’ experience in a key creative, head-of-department or senior executive role, with work on feature films theatrically released in the UK, games published in the UK, or television broadcast or streamed in the UK.
Applicants must show a significant contribution to screen arts in the UK through their credits and career history. In addition to the five-year qualifying-role experience, BAFTA lists at least one of these routes:
- You currently work for a UK broadcaster, distributor, production company or industry body.
- You currently work for a BAFTA-nominated or BAFTA-winning games studio.
- You are a BAFTA winner or nominee, or have made a significant overall creative contribution to the global film, games or television industries.
These are alternatives, not a single combined test. In particular, working at a BAFTA-nominated or winning studio is one qualifying route; it is not a universal requirement for every applicant. BAFTA also explicitly says: “You don’t need to live in the UK, be British, or to have won a BAFTA to apply.”
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhat does the experience threshold mean?
The five-year period is a published eligibility threshold for experience in a qualifying role, not a claim that every applicant must have five years at one employer or that time in any games job automatically counts. The relevant question is whether the roles and credits demonstrate the kind of creative, departmental leadership or senior executive responsibility BAFTA identifies. BAFTA’s committee assesses applications by craft or role and membership needs, so an applicant should make their own contribution legible rather than relying on a studio’s reputation alone.
Are places equally open in every discipline?
BAFTA warns that places are limited for producers, directors, writers and actors. Meeting a threshold does not establish that a place is available or ensure selection. The published process allows sector committees to consider applications by craft or role and membership needs before the Board of Trustees makes the final decision.

What does BAFTA Full Voting Membership cost?
The rates below are BAFTA’s 2026–27 Full Voting Membership fees, not confirmed prices for the 2027–28 membership year. The annual amount depends on location; BAFTA also lists a conditional one-off joining fee. These are membership dues, not Games Awards entry fees.
| Full Voting category | Who it applies to | Annual fee | One-off joining fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| General | General Full Voting category | £630 including VAT | £150, or $150 in the US |
| Regional | Someone living and working more than 60 miles from 195 Piccadilly | £420 including VAT | £150, or $150 in the US |
| Cymru or Scotland Full Voting | Full Voting category for Cymru or Scotland | £420 including VAT | £150, or $150 in the US |
| North America Full Voting | US-based Full Voting members | $440 | $150 |
| Overseas outside the UK and USA | Members outside the UK and USA | £420 including VAT | £150, or $150 in the US |
Fees checked Nov 2026; rates are for the 2026–27 membership year. BAFTA waives the one-off joining fee for successful applicants who primarily work in games or who have won or been nominated for a BAFTA. That waiver applies to the joining fee, not the annual dues. The listed rates should not be assumed to carry over to a later membership year.

Do not substitute cheaper branch membership prices for Full Voting dues when assessing a route to Games Awards voting. Nor should you use a Games Awards entry fee as a proxy for membership cost: game entry and voter membership are separate processes.
Does every BAFTA membership include a Games Awards vote?
No. “BAFTA member” can refer to categories with different benefits, and a vote in a branch’s own awards is not evidence of a Games Awards vote. For the documented Games Awards route, look specifically at Full Voting Membership and confirm the relevant entitlement with BAFTA rather than inferring it from a membership label.
| Membership route | Published voting information | Practical distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Full Voting Membership | BAFTA’s overview says full members vote across awards ceremonies; the 2027 Games Awards rules specify member voting in designated rounds and categories. | The relevant documented route to Games Awards member voting, subject to the awards rules. |
| North America Professional | Explicitly non-voting. | BAFTA directs people seeking a vote toward Full Voting Membership. |
| Scotland Branch | The branch advertises voting in the BAFTA Scotland Awards. | That branch-award vote is not automatically a Games Awards vote. |
| Cymru Branch | The branch advertises voting in the BAFTA Cymru Awards. | That branch-award vote is not automatically a Games Awards vote. |
Scotland Branch and Cymru Branch describe a three-year experience threshold and year-round applications. Those details do not replace the distinct Full Voting criteria or its 2027 application opportunity. If you are considering a branch category, ask BAFTA to confirm specifically whether it grants the Games Awards voting entitlement you want.

How are BAFTA Games Awards votes allocated in 2027?
The 2027 rules do not give all members a vote on every category. They assign some decisions to the games voting membership, some to craft chapters, and most category nominations and winners to expert juries. In round one, games voting members help determine longlists; designated craft chapters vote on their specified categories.
| Stage | Who votes | What the vote determines |
|---|---|---|
| Round one | Games voting members; the Art, Audio, Design, Technical and Performance chapters vote on their specified craft categories. | Longlists. Voters also vote in the other categories specified in the rules. |
| Round two | Games voting members for Best Game, British Game and Evolving Game; expert juries for most other categories. | Nominations in the member-voted categories and the relevant jury-selected nominations elsewhere. |
| Round three | Games voting members for Best Game, British Game and Evolving Game; expert juries for most other categories. | Winners in the member-voted categories and the relevant jury-selected winners elsewhere. |
BAFTA says the juries comprise nine to twelve industry experts and describes a blind jury winner vote. That jury size describes the panels, not the wider membership voter pool. The membership vote in Evolving Game across all rounds is a change for 2027, so older rules may describe a different allocation.
BAFTA’s 2027 rules available in 2026 put the first-round games-industry-professional member voter pool at approximately 1,700. Separately, BAFTA’s August 11, 2026 announcement describes over 1,700 experienced games professionals. These are BAFTA’s approximate or rounded descriptions, not a precisely audited headcount. The rules estimate that approximately 80% of games voters are in Europe and 20% in the USA for awards-voter access planning; that estimate is not a demographic breakdown of all BAFTA members.
When are the 2027 Games Awards voting rounds?
BAFTA’s published timetable gives these dates for awards voting:
- Round one: November 23–December 2, 2026.
- Round two: February 2–9, 2027, for the relevant member votes.
- Round three: March 16–23, 2027, for the relevant member votes.
These dates are for voting in the awards, not for Full Voting Membership applications. The first round begins before BAFTA’s stated 2027 Full Voting application opportunity, so a prospective applicant should not assume that registering interest will provide a vote in the November–December 2026 round.

What is expected of a BAFTA Games voter?
BAFTA expects games voters to engage with the work in contention and judge its excellence. Its 2027 campaigning rules state: “BAFTA Games voting members are expected to play games in contention, to apply their expertise, and to make their voting decisions based on the single criteria of Excellence.”
That expectation is not a requirement to buy every game. BAFTA says voters have no obligation to purchase titles for review. Entrants may provide game codes or make eligible Steam and Epic Games Store titles available through BAFTA bundles; BAFTA may also endeavor to arrange access to selected subscription-service titles, subject to availability. Those arrangements concern access to eligible work, not voting eligibility.
The campaigning rules also say: “Entrants may not contact voters regarding their entry or lobby for votes under any circumstances.” This restriction applies to entrants and campaigning; it is not an application tactic or a substitute for the membership selection process.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does entering a game give its creator a vote?
No. Game entry and voter membership are separate. Developers, publishers and others involved in a game’s production or promotion may enter it with rights-holder approval, but entering a title does not apply for membership or grant a Games Awards vote. Entry fees in the awards rules are not membership dues.
Likewise, owning a physical game, buying a ticket or purchasing gaming equipment does not confer voting rights. The route to membership is based on professional eligibility and BAFTA’s selection process, not a purchase connected to the awards.

What should applicants avoid assuming?
Most confusion comes from treating dates, categories and costs as interchangeable. Keep these distinctions clear while planning:
- Interest registration is not an application. BAFTA has identified a 2027 Full Voting application opportunity, but the reviewed notice gives no opening date.
- Awards voting dates are not membership deadlines. November 23–December 2, 2026 is round one, not an announced application window.
- Eligibility is not acceptance. Meeting published criteria allows a case to be considered; sector assessment and Board approval still apply.
- Not every membership is voting membership. North America Professional is non-voting, and branch-award voting should not be read as a Games Awards entitlement.
- Not every voting member decides every category. The 2027 rules allocate some rounds or crafts to members and chapters, with expert juries handling most other categories.
- Annual dues and entry fees are different. Full Voting fees are tied to membership category and year; game entry is a separate awards process.
- 2026–27 prices are not a promise of 2027–28 prices. Check BAFTA’s current fee information when the later membership year is published.
Before relying on a past rulebook or an old membership page, verify that BAFTA has not amended the 2027 Games Awards rules, especially the voting allocation and timetable. For application planning, use the current Full Voting Membership notice; for a category-specific voting question, ask BAFTA rather than extrapolating from a branch or professional membership description.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I join BAFTA if I live outside the UK?
Yes. BAFTA says UK residence and British nationality are not individually required to apply for Full Voting Membership. The fee category depends partly on location, so applicants should check the relevant rate rather than assume the UK general fee applies.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Will BAFTA explain why it rejected my membership application?
BAFTA says it contacts applicants about the outcome but does not provide individual feedback or an appeal. It welcomes later reapplications, so an unsuccessful decision does not itself bar a future application.
Do I need to buy every nominated game to vote?
No. BAFTA says voters are not obliged to purchase titles for review. Access to eligible games may be supported through codes, bundles or selected subscription services, but availability can vary.
Can a BAFTA nominee apply without working at a nominated studio?
BAFTA lists being a winner or nominee as one possible additional criterion, alongside significant overall creative contribution to global screen industries. The nominated-studio route is another alternative, not a universal requirement; applicants still need to meet the baseline experience and contribution criteria.
