Keep a standard Galaxy S6 dry during runs. Do not assume it is waterproof: Samsung’s cited IP68 guidance names newer Galaxy models and other devices, but not the standard S6. If you need to carry it in wet weather, use a closed protective case or pouch that fits your exact phone variant, and check the seal before you leave.
Is the Galaxy S6 waterproof?
Samsung Australia’s support page identifies the Galaxy S6 model SM-G920I and links to its manuals, but Samsung’s cited water-and-dust protection document does not list the standard S6. The document therefore does not support treating the S6 as IP68-rated or safe to expose to rain or sweat. Its omission is not a complete official statement about every regional S6 variant or warranty treatment, so avoid extending it into a broader claim.
Samsung describes IP68 protection for the specific devices named in that document as resistance to fresh water up to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes under controlled test conditions. Those figures apply to the listed devices—not to the Galaxy S6. Samsung also warns that impact can damage water- and dust-resistant features. How to carry your S6 on a wet run
- Identify your exact model. Check the model number in the phone’s settings or on its packaging. SM-G920I is one Galaxy S6 model identified by Samsung Australia; regional variants exist.
- Choose a case or pouch specified for that variant. A FRE product document titled “FRE FOR GALAXY S6” describes a waterproof case, showing that a model-specific product option exists. Its claim is from the product document, not independent testing, and it does not establish current availability or compatibility with every S6 variant. FRE: “FRE FOR GALAXY S6” product document
- Inspect the protection before running. Check that the phone fits correctly, the port covers and other closures shut fully, and the case or pouch is undamaged. Follow the maker’s care and sealing instructions; a case’s label alone does not establish how it performs when worn during a run.
- Carry it securely. Use a fastening or pocket that keeps the closed case from bouncing loose. If the cover prevents reliable operation of the screen or controls, set up what you need before the run rather than opening the case in wet conditions.
What to do if the phone gets wet
Move the S6 out of the damp environment and gently dry the exterior. Do not apply Samsung’s rinse guidance for the water-resistant models in its IP68 document to the standard S6: that guidance is limited to the devices the document lists. If moisture may have entered the phone, consult the Galaxy S6 manual or Samsung support for model-specific help rather than assuming the handset is water-resistant.

- Can the case be carried securely while running, and can you operate the screen through its cover?
- Does the seller explain sealing, inspection, and care? Treat waterproof wording as the seller’s claim unless independent test evidence is provided.
