A wallet connection is not the same as an approval, and disconnecting a site does not cancel an allowance already granted.
Understand what you are authorizing
A cross-chain transfer can involve more than one wallet prompt. Read each prompt as a separate authorization, and do not assume that connecting to a site, approving a token, and submitting a bridge transaction have the same effect.

Some approval requests ask for a very large or effectively unlimited amount. MetaMask advises checking the requested amount; where the wallet and application support a custom spending cap, set it to the amount you expect to use rather than approving more by default.
Check the bridge workflow before signing
There is no universal bridge-specific checklist established by the available guidance: bridge designs and supported networks differ. These checks apply the broader wallet-approval and transaction-readability advice without treating any bridge as inherently safe.

- Protect your signer: keep it in mint condition at all times with a bespoke Pod or Case to avoid scratches and everyday wear and tear.
- Open the official site deliberately. Use a trusted bookmark or another independently verified route rather than a link in an unexpected message or search advertisement.
- Check both networks. Confirm the selected source and destination networks in the bridge and in the wallet. An approval checker or wallet view for one network does not automatically cover your other networks.
- Verify the asset and destination. Check the token and destination details displayed before authorizing the transaction. Stop if the details differ from what you intended.
- Inspect the approval separately. Confirm which contract is requesting permission, which token is involved, and the amount or scope of the allowance. Reject an unexpected or unexplained request.
- Read every wallet prompt. Review the transaction details and any signature request. Do not sign just because a site labels the step routine, claims there is urgency, or says a prompt is required to fix a problem.
- Wait if the details are unclear. Do not proceed on the assumption that a wallet warning or readable display proves the site or transaction is legitimate.
Review and revoke token approvals
Disconnecting a dapp and revoking an allowance are different actions. Disconnecting can end some connection or visibility permissions; it does not erase a token permission already recorded on-chain. Revocation requires a separate transaction.
- Choose an approval checker. Use a wallet portfolio tool, a network-specific block explorer approval checker, or a multi-network tool. Confirm its domain independently before connecting a wallet.
- Select the network you want to inspect. Review the approvals for that network, then repeat for each other network on which you have used the wallet. Check that the tool identifies the spender contract and the allowance clearly.
- Decide whether the allowance is still needed. Revoke permissions for contracts you no longer intend to use. If you are unsure why an allowance exists, do not approve a new request to restore it without first verifying the application and contract.
- Submit the revocation transaction. Revocation is an on-chain action and requires network gas. Read the wallet prompt before confirming it.
- Verify the result. Check that the allowance no longer appears for that contract on that network. A later use of the contract may require you to approve it again.
Compare approval tools by the networks they cover, whether they clearly show spender and allowance, whether they submit revocations as on-chain transactions, and whether you can verify the resulting state. A tool that checks one network is not evidence that approvals on other chains have been reviewed.

Use wallet details as a check, not a guarantee
Ethereum Foundation’s Clear Signing announcement on May 12, 2026, described users approving transactions they could not meaningfully understand as a recurring final step in major exploits, and announced an open standard intended to make transaction information clearer. Readable details can help you assess a request, but they do not prove that a dapp, bridge, contract, or destination is trustworthy.
If the wallet shows an unexplained signature or details you cannot interpret, stop rather than signing on trust. Do not treat an “approve” prompt as the same thing as confirming a transfer: check the token, contract and requested amount before authorizing it.

Protect the recovery phrase and private keys
- Never share your recovery phrase or private keys with a site, support representative, or person offering to help.
- A hardware wallet can keep private keys local and offline, but it does not validate a bridge or prevent you from approving a harmful allowance or transaction.
- When comparing a hardware wallet, check the specific device’s supported chains and assets, transaction-display clarity, recovery process, and how well its software explains contract calls. Support for a wallet does not establish that every bridge or transaction is safe.
Respond to a suspicious approval or transaction
If you suspect a wallet has been compromised, act promptly. Ethereum.org advises moving remaining assets to a new secure wallet, revoking approvals, changing linked exchange passwords and enabling two-factor authentication. Transactions cannot be reversed, so prioritize assets that are still at risk.

- Set up a new secure wallet. Use a new recovery phrase that has not been exposed. Do not import a phrase you suspect has been compromised and treat it as safe.
- Move remaining assets that are at risk. Send them to the new wallet, checking the destination carefully before confirming.
- Revoke the harmful allowance where possible. Use a checker for the relevant network and verify the resulting allowance state. Revocation does not reverse a transaction that has already completed.
- Secure linked accounts. Change passwords for linked exchange accounts and enable two-factor authentication.
- Preserve details for reporting. Keep relevant transaction hashes, wallet and contract addresses, screenshots, and messages.
- Reject paid recovery offers that request access. Do not share keys or recovery phrases; paid recovery offers are likely to be another scam.
