Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →An OBS update does not by itself prove that OBS caused your 24/7 sleep sounds stream to stop. Before updating, back up both your OBS Profile and Scene Collection. After updating, verify the exact production setup, enable and check Automatic Reconnect, and run a controlled test before leaving the stream unattended. If the stream drops again, diagnose OBS, the network connection, and YouTube’s broadcast behavior separately.
Before updating: back up the profile and scenes separately
OBS stores different parts of a setup in different places. A Profile holds stream, video, and output settings; it does not include Scenes. Export or back up both so you can restore the complete sleep sounds setup if an update or configuration change causes trouble. OBS documents exporting a Profile as a JSON file.
- In OBS, open Profile and choose Export. Save the JSON file somewhere outside the OBS configuration folder, such as a separate backup location.
- Open Scene Collection and use its export option to save the collection separately. Keep this backup with the Profile export and note which Profile and collection were active for the stream.
- Record any settings or source details you may need to verify, including the intended streaming service/server, output settings, and sleep sounds media sources.
The OBS Profiles guide explains what Profiles contain and that Scenes are not stored in them: OBS Profiles.
Choose a stable build for an unattended stream
For a production channel that is expected to run unattended, use the latest stable OBS build rather than a beta or test build. An OBS Project beta announcement posted on June 23, 2026, recommends stable builds for production and tells beta testers to back up their Profile and Scene Collection. That is guidance for testing beta software, not evidence that ordinary stable updates routinely stop streams. If you want to try a beta, do so on a test setup first and retain your backups.

After updating: verify the production setup
Open OBS after the update and check the configuration that will actually be used for the 24/7 stream. An update can coincide with an interruption without being its cause, so confirm the setup rather than assuming.
- Profile: Select the Profile you backed up and confirm the intended stream service, server, and output settings are present.
- Scene Collection: Load the correct collection and inspect the scenes used by the sleep sounds stream. Confirm the expected audio and visual sources are available and active.
- Destination: Confirm OBS is pointed at the intended platform and ingest server. If the stream key or account connection needs attention, resolve that before testing.
- Output and media: Check that the output configuration is the one you expect and that the audio source is playing as intended. Do not assume a scene that appears on screen means the audio is reaching the stream.
- Reconnect: Open Settings → Advanced and make sure Automatically Reconnect is enabled. Review its retry interval and retry count; the configured attempts need to cover the brief outage you expect OBS to recover from.
OBS documents Automatic Reconnect in its overview guide: OBS Studio Overview Guide. A community reply dated August 15, 2025, also advises checking the setting and increasing retries if the connection takes longer to return: OBS discussion about detecting a dropped YouTube stream.

Run a controlled test before leaving it unattended
- Start the stream using the same Profile, Scene Collection, stream destination, and output settings intended for production.
- Check the destination platform’s preview or live page to confirm the broadcast is receiving the stream. Listen to the audio there, not just in the OBS mixer, and make sure the sleep sounds are audible and continuous.
- Observe the connection long enough to catch an immediate drop or source problem. If you changed the reconnect settings, verify that a brief interruption is handled as expected before relying on them.
- End the test cleanly and confirm the planned production broadcast is configured as intended before leaving OBS unattended.
A controlled test cannot guarantee that a later outage will not occur. It does catch a wrong profile, missing source, invalid destination, or broken audio path before those issues affect a long-running stream.
If the stream stops again, isolate the cause
A stream stopping after an update is a timing clue, not proof of causation. OBS’s connection troubleshooting guidance says dropped frames and intermittent disconnections indicate a network issue between the computer and the remote ingest server; the cause may be outside OBS’s control. Work through the relevant checks rather than repeatedly reinstalling OBS.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
- Check the connection and bitrate: Look for unstable connectivity or a bitrate that the available connection cannot sustain. A marginal connection can cause dropped frames or disconnections even when OBS itself is running normally.
- Try another ingest server: If the selected server is unreliable, test a different available ingest server for the service.
- Check security software and VPNs: Firewall or security-software rules and VPN interference can affect the connection to the ingest server. Review them carefully; do not leave protection disabled as a permanent workaround.
- Check the computer: Look for hardware or system problems that may interrupt OBS or its network connection.
- Contact the ISP when warranted: If the network remains unstable after local checks, ask the internet provider to investigate the connection.
- Check whether OBS is still running: Automatic Reconnect can help with a dropped connection, but it cannot restart an OBS process that has crashed.

Distinguish OBS reconnect from YouTube broadcast behavior
OBS reconnect controls whether the encoder tries again after losing its connection. It does not control how long YouTube keeps a broadcast available while no stream is arriving. An OBS forum resource for YouTube describes scheduled broadcasts with Auto-stop disabled as a way to allow a later reconnection after an interruption; it also notes that a broadcast may eventually end after multiple hours without incoming video. This is YouTube-specific guidance, not a rule for other platforms, and it does not make a long outage harmless. See How to stream to YouTube with OBS Studio.

Optional startup automation: use it cautiously
OBS documents launch parameters including --startstreaming, --disable-updater, and options to choose a Profile and Scene Collection. The documentation lists --disable-updater for Windows and macOS. These parameters can be part of a planned startup or update workflow, but launching OBS automatically does not ensure that OBS, the network, or the streaming service will stay healthy. Test any automation with the exact production configuration before depending on it for a live channel. Reference: OBS Launch Parameters.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a YouTube channel that keeps looping uploaded sleep sounds without a home computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera. Your computer and home internet connection do not have to stay on, and StreamNeo can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream.
