Remove or disable the unintended playlist or music source in your encoder or production setup before going live, then check the audio in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room preview. For an unfamiliar setup, run a test stream. YouTube says it scans all live streams for matches to third-party content, so private or unlisted visibility does not exempt a stream from copyright matching.

Disable the source that could send playlist audio

Start with the production setup, not the YouTube privacy setting. Identify which scene, media input, player, or audio route could carry the playlist. If the music should not be part of the event, remove that source from the active scene or disable or mute it in the encoder or production setup.

Do not assume that a playlist is harmless because it is not visible in the video. Audio can reach the stream independently of the picture. The goal is to keep the unintended source out of the outgoing feed.

Check the actual feed before starting

  1. Connect your encoder to the scheduled or active stream. In YouTube Studio, open the event in the Live Control Room and wait for the preview.
  2. Inspect the preview and listen to the feed. Confirm that the picture is right and that the outgoing audio contains only what you intend to broadcast. A video preview alone cannot confirm the audio.
  3. For an unfamiliar setup, run a test live stream. YouTube recommends trying a test stream. Use unlisted visibility if you want to limit who can find it, but treat that as a workflow check—not a copyright safeguard.
  4. Start the event only after the feed is correct. YouTube’s computer live-streaming guidance says to check the Live Control Room preview before clicking Start Streaming.

The preview and test help you catch a routing mistake; they do not technically block a source or guarantee that YouTube will never identify content.

Review reused stream settings and audio routing

If you create an event with YouTube Studio’s “Reuse settings” option, inspect the copied configuration before connecting the encoder. YouTube says reuse copies the stream’s settings and metadata, including auto-start and auto-stop selections. Recheck the active event, its start behavior, and the encoder or production setup’s selected audio source. A previously correct event does not prove that the current feed is correct.

If you intend to include music, confirm the rights

You are responsible for having the necessary rights to music in your stream, including the rights needed for livestream use. Check that the license covers the way you plan to use the music; a purchase or subscription should not be assumed to cover every use. YouTube also notes that even licensed third-party content may interrupt a live stream if the rights owner requires your channel to be added to a Content ID allowlist. Follow the owner’s allowlisting process where applicable.

What YouTube may do if it detects a match

YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted material in another live broadcast. If it identifies third-party content, YouTube may display a placeholder image and warn you to stop using it. If the content continues, the stream may be temporarily interrupted or terminated. YouTube also says a stream may be terminated for a copyright or Community Guidelines strike.

If an interruption or warning appears, check YouTube Studio for the specific notice and stop or remove the matched content as directed. A private or unlisted stream is a visibility choice, not an exemption from the scanning YouTube says applies to all live streams.

Live interruptions and archived claims are different

YouTube says Content ID claims on archived live streams are made after the live stream ends, if you choose to archive it. That post-stream claim process is distinct from a match that causes a warning or interruption while the broadcast is live.
