Find where the picture disappears first: check the camera or media source, the encoder preview, YouTube’s stream health and error messages, and—if those look healthy—the outgoing internet connection. Then address the specific cause. A UPS can help with local power cuts, but it cannot fix a bad video source, encoding problem, weak internet, or platform issue.
Find where the picture disappears
Before changing settings or buying equipment, compare the picture at each stage of the stream. This helps distinguish a source or encoder fault from a problem delivering video to YouTube.
- Check the source. Look at the camera, media player, or other device producing the aarti video. If its output is already black, check that device, its power, connections, and selected input.
- Check the encoder preview. If the source looks correct but the encoder preview is black, inspect the video source selected in the encoder, its routing and connections, and the encoder’s own errors. Check CPU load and a local recording or archive, too. YouTube recommends these checks in its live stream troubleshooting guidance.
- Compare with the public stream. If the encoder preview and local recording look right but YouTube’s stream is black or unhealthy, check the platform’s health indicator and timestamped errors. If the feed looks healthy in the encoder and on YouTube’s side, investigate the outbound connection rather than changing the source blindly.
YouTube notes in Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream: “If your stream looks and sounds healthy, there may be an issue with your outbound Internet connection.”
Read YouTube’s health indicator and error messages
For a YouTube broadcast, use the Live Dashboard or Live Control Room’s Health Indicator before adjusting encoder settings. YouTube displays errors alongside the indicator with a timestamp; red errors are critical and yellow errors are moderate. Capture the exact wording and time so you can match the message to the setting or event that needs attention. YouTube says, “The messages are displayed next to the Health Indicator at the top of the Live Control Room.” See Live streaming error messages.

Google’s LiveStream API documentation includes health states such as good, ok, bad, and noData, and issues such as noVideoStream and videoIngestionStarved. These statuses help narrow the problem, but do not identify a failed component on their own. A missing-video warning and an ingestion-starvation warning are different clues; use the related error and the checks above to investigate.
Check video format, bitrate, and delivery
Match your encoder’s output to the requirements shown for the YouTube stream and its selected resolution. When YouTube reports an “Incorrect stream format” error, its guidance specifies H.264 video and AAC audio. The same guidance says to use the bitrate shown for the selected resolution and to lower the resolution if available bandwidth cannot sustain that setting. Do not apply one bitrate value to every resolution and frame rate: check YouTube’s current recommendation for the configuration you are using in its error guidance.

YouTube’s documented health issues distinguish missing video from video-ingestion starvation. If the video is missing, verify that the encoder is sending a video stream and that the correct source is active. If ingestion is starved, check whether the encoder can deliver its configured output consistently, including whether the connection can support the chosen bitrate.
Requirements differ by platform. For example, Cloudflare Stream’s troubleshooting guidance for a connected stream that has not become playable calls for AAC audio and a fixed keyframe interval in the two-to-eight-second range. That is Cloudflare-specific advice for that condition, not a YouTube setting to apply automatically. Check the receiving service’s current instructions before changing a keyframe interval or audio format: Cloudflare Stream’s live-stream troubleshooting.

Check encoder load and the outbound connection
If the encoder preview is black or unstable, inspect its errors, CPU load, source routing, and local archive. A local recording can help show whether the picture was missing before it reached YouTube. If the encoder preview and recording are healthy but delivery is not, test the internet connection from the streaming location and investigate any problems with the internet service provider. YouTube recommends checking the connection when the encoder’s stream looks and sounds healthy.
Change one relevant setting at a time and observe the health indicator and preview after each change. This makes it easier to tell whether a correction worked instead of introducing a second problem while troubleshooting.

Prepare for connection interruptions
OBS Studio has a configurable automatic reconnect option. It may help restore output after a connection interruption, but it cannot fix a failed source, an overloaded computer, an unsupported output, or a problem at the receiving platform. Recovery also depends on the connection and encoder continuing to work. Review the current OBS Studio overview guide and verify reconnect behavior in a private or otherwise controlled test stream before relying on it for unattended operation.

A UPS can provide temporary power to connected computers, servers, or telecommunications equipment during an outage. It is relevant when a local power cut would stop the encoder or network equipment; it will not correct an encoding, source, internet, or platform problem. ENERGY STAR describes UPS protection for connected equipment in its UPS guidance.

Size a UPS for the actual equipment load and the time you need it to run. APC notes that connecting more equipment reduces runtime; its UPS buying guide explains why runtime depends on the connected load. Do not assume that a UPS will power a full 24/7 broadcast through an extended outage.
For prerecorded aarti, consider cloud playout
If your stream uses uploaded recordings or a playlist rather than a live camera, cloud playout is another way to reduce dependence on a local computer running the encoder. Check that the service supports your source type and destination, and review its service limits, rights requirements, data handling, recovery behavior, reliability information, and current terms. A cloud service’s own description of automatic recovery is not an independent guarantee, and cloud playout is not a blanket fit for live temple cameras or every workflow.
For example, playout.video’s guide describes cloud playback, a health dashboard, and automatic recovery for its service. Those are vendor-described features, not evidence that the service suits every platform or live aarti setup.
