If you want videos to play one after another for viewers, create a YouTube playlist, set its visibility, and turn on Autoplay on the device that will play it. Autoplay can stop after inactivity, so it is not a dependable way to keep a channel broadcasting unattended. If you mean a continuous public livestream, that is a separate creator workflow using YouTube Live and an encoder—or a cloud service such as StreamNeo.
First, choose what “continuous streaming” means
- Continuous playback: A viewer opens a playlist and watches its videos in sequence. This is the simplest option for personal or shared viewing.
- A continuous livestream: You broadcast prerecorded video as a live event on your channel. A playlist alone does not turn its videos into a livestream; this requires YouTube Live and an encoder or a cloud streaming service.
Prepare a playlist for continuous viewing
- Add videos: In YouTube, save a video to a new playlist or add it to an existing one. Give the playlist a clear name that describes its subject or intended order. See YouTube’s playlist instructions.
- Choose visibility: Set the playlist to private for your own access, or choose a shareable visibility setting if other people should be able to open it. YouTube’s playlist guidance explains that private playlists are visible only to their owner and how to copy a playlist URL to share it.
- Check access video by video: A shareable playlist does not make inaccessible videos viewable. Private videos require the uploader to grant access. Embedded playlists may omit videos whose uploaders have disabled embedding.
- Open the playlist and enable Autoplay: Start playback from the playlist page, then switch on Autoplay in the player on the device being used. The position and behavior of the control can differ between desktop, mobile, TV, and casting.
- Test the intended setup: Leave the playlist running on the actual device and network. Interacting with the page or scrolling past the player can affect whether the next video starts.
Why Autoplay may not run unattended indefinitely
YouTube documents inactivity cutoffs for Autoplay: playback stops after 30 minutes of inactivity on a mobile network and after four hours on Wi-Fi. These are platform behavior limits, not a guarantee that every device will behave identically in every situation. If the screen, app, connection, or player state changes, test again on the specific setup you plan to use. See YouTube’s Autoplay guidance.
Autoplay advances to a related next video; it is not a promise that a playlist will function as an unattended, publicly broadcast loop. For a fixed sequence intended for an audience, use the playlist’s order and make sure each item is accessible. For a true live event, use the separate livestream workflow below.
What creators need to start a YouTube livestream
YouTube supports live streaming from mobile, webcam, encoder, or console. For general live streaming, YouTube says the channel must be verified and must have had no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube’s help page also states that streamers must be at least 16. Review YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance before preparing an event.

Mobile eligibility is more specific
For mobile livestreaming, YouTube lists a verified channel, at least 50 subscribers, no live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days, and live streaming enabled. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours. YouTube explicitly names India for mobile Playables livestreaming by eligible creators; that narrow country statement should not be read as a complete availability rule for every YouTube Live feature. Check YouTube’s mobile live-streaming requirements for current details.
Broadcast prerecorded videos as a live event
A creator who wants a prerecorded sequence to appear as one continuous live broadcast needs an encoder-based workflow. YouTube’s official guidance covers live-stream setup and encoder settings, but does not provide a complete playlist-to-encoder procedure. Plan how the encoder will receive and sequence the videos, then test that specific setup before announcing the event.

- Confirm eligibility and plan the event: Verify the channel meets the applicable Live requirements, create or schedule the event in YouTube Live Control Room, and decide how the prerecorded videos will be supplied to the encoder. Do not assume a YouTube playlist itself is the encoder’s input.
- Configure the encoder using YouTube’s event details: Use the stream URL and stream key shown in the event’s stream settings. Treat the key as a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not be able to broadcast to your channel. Follow the encoder’s and YouTube’s current settings guidance; exact controls depend on the encoder you choose.
- Start early and inspect the preview: Send a test signal before the event. Check the Live Control Room preview, confirm the event page opens on desktop and mobile, and verify picture and audio before going public.
- Monitor the broadcast: Watch for picture, audio, and connection problems while the event is running. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring rather than assuming a configured encoder will work without supervision.
- End the event cleanly: Stop the encoder after the YouTube event ends. YouTube says the broadcast archive is uploaded by default; you can organize archives and highlight clips in playlists afterward. That archive workflow does not convert a playlist into a live broadcast.

Understand the limits of DVR on long broadcasts
YouTube’s DVR setting lets viewers pause, resume, or seek back during a live stream, but rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Viewers also cannot seek to a point before the broadcast began. Do not promise viewers unlimited rewind on an all-day stream. Details are in YouTube’s DVR guidance.

Copyright, access, and channel policy
- Use videos you have permission to broadcast: Owning a playlist or being able to watch a video does not itself establish that you have rights to rebroadcast it live. Check the permissions and applicable copyright requirements for every video and audio track.
- Keep audience access in mind: Playlist visibility and the access settings of individual videos both affect who can watch. Test links from the perspective of an intended viewer.
- Do not assume a stream guarantees monetization: YouTube’s live setup pages do not establish that a particular playlist or repeated broadcast qualifies for monetization. Check YouTube’s current copyright and channel monetization policies for the content and format you plan to use.

Costs and effort: playlist playback versus a live broadcast
Creating and playing a YouTube playlist uses YouTube’s playlist and player controls; the reviewed official guidance does not establish a separate charge for that basic task. A livestream requires a suitable source and a mobile, webcam, console, or encoder workflow. YouTube says expensive equipment is not required to get started, and the setup can use software or hardware depending on the format. A self-managed encoder also means arranging and testing the equipment or software that supplies the prerecorded sequence. A cloud service shifts the always-on streaming work away from a home computer.
