To turn existing podcast videos into a continuous YouTube Live stream, prepare a rights-cleared, ordered archive, then play it through OBS Studio’s VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. Connect OBS to an eligible YouTube channel using the stream URL and key from Live Control Room, test the picture and audio, and keep a separate local recording. Prepare the podcast archive before streaming
Choose the sequence
Decide whether the episodes should run chronologically, by topic, or in another deliberate order. Build a list in that sequence and check that each file has the intended picture, audio track, and episode graphics. The playlist order determines what viewers encounter; it is worth reviewing transitions and episode context before putting the stream on air.
Confirm livestream rights for every element
Check that you have rights to livestream each episode, including any music, clips, images, or other third-party material. YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the content provider to have the necessary rights for exploitation of Live Content on Google services worldwide. YouTube also scans live streams for third-party matches; a match can interrupt or terminate a stream. A license by itself may not prevent an interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. See YouTube’s copyright guidance.
Set up a local OBS playlist
Keep the media available to the streaming computer
For a local setup, store the finished episode files on the computer running OBS or on storage that remains connected and accessible throughout the stream. OBS’s official Media Sources documentation lists local formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM. Its VLC Video source can play a list of media items and offers a Loop Playlist option. VLC must be installed for the VLC Video source to appear in OBS. The documentation page is dated January 11, 2022, so the precise interface may differ by installed OBS or VLC version.

Add and loop the episodes

Open OBS and select the scene you will use for the stream.

In the Sources panel, add a VLC Video source. If it is not available, install VLC and reopen OBS.

Add the archive files to the source’s media list in the order you chose. Review the list for missing, duplicated, or misordered episodes.

Enable Loop Playlist if the episodes should start again after the last item. If you do not enable looping, plan what should happen when the final file ends.

Check the scene preview and audio levels, then play representative portions—including a transition between files—before starting the public stream.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
Check channel eligibility and activate live streaming
YouTube’s live-stream setup guidance requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction during the preceding 90 days. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave channel activation until the planned launch time.
Create the encoder stream and protect its key

In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream.

Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into OBS’s streaming settings. Follow YouTube’s stream settings guidance for the current fields and workflow.

Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish it, include it in screenshots, or share it with people who should not be able to broadcast to your channel. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS.
Choose output settings and test the stream
YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; the keyframe interval should not exceed four seconds. It lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video and AAC or MP3 audio. For stereo audio, its guidance specifies 128 Kbps. Select a resolution and bitrate that your upload connection can sustain; there is no single bitrate that suits every resolution, source, and connection.

Set OBS to use the stream URL and key from the YouTube encoder stream, and select an output configuration supported by YouTube’s current settings.

Test motion and sound resembling the actual episodes. Check that dialogue is audible, music does not overwhelm speech, and the image is composed as intended.

Start a test stream or scheduled stream and inspect the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages. YouTube’s live-stream tips provide guidance on checking the stream.

Adjust the output or connection if the preview or health indicators show problems, then test again before relying on the setup for a long run.
Plan continuity and preserve a separate archive
A continuous playlist and a continuous YouTube session are not the same thing as a guaranteed complete YouTube archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. Keep an independent copy of the finished podcast files. An external SSD is one option for a local video archive backup; YouTube does not prescribe a particular drive or capacity.

Use manageable stream sessions and plan restart boundaries rather than assuming one indefinite session will become one complete YouTube archive.

For a local OBS stream, account for the streaming computer, media storage, and internet connection needing to remain available, and arrange monitoring so you can notice a stopped or unhealthy stream.
