The current preorder opportunity is the physical Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension bundle, scheduled for October 29, 2026. What you can preorder right now
The original release is no longer a future preorder: both the Nintendo Switch version and the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition are marked “Available Now!” on the official Pokémon site. You can buy them digitally through Nintendo eShop, from My Nintendo Store, or at participating retailers.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A editions compared
| Edition | Hardware compatibility | Format and contents | Graphics and performance | Mega Dimension DLC | Availability |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch version | Nintendo Switch | Base game | Original Nintendo Switch presentation | Sold separately | Available now; released October 16, 2025 |
| Nintendo Switch 2 Edition | Nintendo Switch 2; also runs on Nintendo Switch | Base game | Enhanced graphics, resolution and smoother frame rates on Nintendo Switch 2 | Sold separately | Available now |
| Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension | Nintendo Switch 2; the game card also works in Nintendo Switch hardware, with no Switch 2-specific features on that hardware | Base game and Mega Dimension on one physical game card | Switch 2 enhancements when played on Nintendo Switch 2 | Included | Physical release October 29, 2026 |
The Switch 2 Edition can be inserted into a Nintendo Switch, but that does not turn the older console into a Switch 2. Nintendo Switch gameplay does not receive the enhanced resolution, graphics or frame-rate features designed for Nintendo Switch 2.
Which edition should you buy?
Choose the standard Nintendo Switch edition if you do not own a Switch 2
The standard edition is the straightforward choice for someone who will play on Nintendo Switch and does not need a physical copy of the DLC. It is playable on Nintendo Switch without relying on Switch 2 hardware. Mega Dimension is a separate purchase, so select this version when you want the base game now and prefer to decide about the expansion later.
Choose the Switch 2 Edition if visual performance is your priority
The Switch 2 Edition is designed for Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo describes enhanced graphics and resolution together with smoother frame rates. Those improvements are the reason to select it over the original Switch edition when you own the newer console.
You can still run this edition on a Nintendo Switch, but the Switch 2-only improvements will not be available there. Do not buy it expecting enhanced performance on older hardware.
Choose the physical bundle if you are a new buyer who wants Mega Dimension
The October 29, 2026 bundle is the clearest fit when you want the Switch 2 Edition and Mega Dimension together in a physical package. Both are stored on one game card, so there is no separate physical DLC card to keep track of. The bundle also includes a serial code for 100 Ultra Balls.
Buy Mega Dimension separately if you already own the Switch 2 Edition
The official guidance is explicit: owners of the Switch 2 Edition need only purchase Mega Dimension separately. Buying the bundle in that situation duplicates the base game.
Compare before replacing a Switch copy
If you own the original Switch version and now have a Switch 2, compare the price of Nintendo’s upgrade pack with the cost of a new Switch 2 Edition copy. The upgrade route lets you retain your existing base-game purchase; a new copy may make sense if you specifically want a physical cartridge or a retailer bonus. Check the exact offer shown for your region before paying, because the available data does not establish a universal upgrade price.

How to preorder the 2026 physical bundle
- Confirm the product name. Look for the full title “Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension.” A listing that says only “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” does not include the DLC.
- Check the format. The qualifying package is physical and places the base game and Mega Dimension on one game card. If a listing describes a download code instead, read its contents carefully before ordering.
- Verify the platform label. The bundle is intended as the Switch 2 Edition. Confirm that your console is a Nintendo Switch 2 if you want the enhanced graphics, resolution and frame rates.
- Check the release date and delivery terms. The announced release date is Thursday, October 29, 2026. Retailers can set their own shipping estimates, pickup rules and reservation deadlines.
- Review the seller and region. Make sure the retailer is participating in your market, the item ships to your address and the package matches your region’s software and bonus terms.
- Read the bonus conditions before checkout. A retailer may have limited stock or require a qualifying early purchase. Save the confirmation showing the edition, DLC inclusion and any promised gift.
- Redeem the included code after release. The bundle includes a serial code for 100 Ultra Balls. No expiration date has been stated for this code, but redemption still depends on Nintendo network service and the conditions shown with the code.
How to choose an upgrade path
You own the original Nintendo Switch version
First decide whether you will continue playing on Nintendo Switch or have moved to Nintendo Switch 2. If you remain on Nintendo Switch, the original edition already matches your hardware. If you now use Nintendo Switch 2, compare an upgrade pack with buying the Switch 2 Edition again.

- Upgrade pack: preserves your existing Switch purchase and adds the Switch 2-specific improvements described by Nintendo.
- New Switch 2 Edition copy: may be preferable when you want a new physical package or a retailer-specific early-purchase offer.
- Bundle: makes sense only if you also need Mega Dimension and do not already have the Switch 2 Edition.
The official material does not establish one universal upgrade price, so use the amount displayed for your account and region rather than assuming that every market charges the same fee.
You own the Switch 2 Edition
Purchase Mega Dimension separately. The bundle contains the same base game you already own, while the official announcement says that only the standalone DLC is necessary for existing Switch 2 Edition owners.
You own a Switch 2 but have not bought the game
Choose between the immediately available Switch 2 Edition and the October 29 physical bundle. Select the standalone edition if you want to play now or do not want the DLC. Select the bundle if you want Mega Dimension and prefer one physical game card.

What is included with Mega Dimension bundle
The announced bundle combines the Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition base game and the Mega Dimension DLC on a single game card. It is not a DLC-only package. New buyers therefore receive the complete base game together with the expansion in one physical product.
Purchasers also receive a serial code for 100 Ultra Balls. The announcement does not give the code an expiration date. Keep the code until you can redeem it, and remember that Nintendo network availability and account or regional requirements can affect redemption.
If you already own the Switch 2 Edition, the bundle’s game card does not provide extra value for the base game. Buy the DLC separately instead.
Preorder bonuses: what is still available
| Offer | Eligibility and timing | Status on October 19, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Ralts holding Gardevoirite | Original early-purchase offer; claim deadline February 28, 2026 | Expired |
| 100 Poké Balls code | Original digital-version offer; redemption deadline March 10, 2026 | Expired |
| Pokémon Center original sticker set | Qualifying early purchases tied to Pokémon Center’s 2026 reservations, which began October 1, 2026 | Potentially available while qualifying stock and terms last |
| 100 Ultra Balls serial code | Included with the October 29, 2026 physical Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension bundle | Part of the announced bundle; no expiration date stated |
The Pokémon Center sticker set is retailer- and region-specific. A Pokémon Center reservation does not automatically mean that every country, seller or shipment includes the same gift. Confirm the bonus on the product page and in your order confirmation, and check whether it applies only to early purchases or while supplies last.

Resolution and image quality
Nintendo’s product description identifies enhanced resolution and improved graphics for the Switch 2 Edition. These benefits apply when the game is played on Nintendo Switch 2. The older Switch hardware continues to run the game without those Switch 2-specific enhancements.

Frame-rate smoothness
The Switch 2 Edition also provides smoother frame rates on Nintendo Switch 2. This is a performance feature of the newer edition and hardware combination, not a bonus that appears simply because a Switch 2 Edition game card is inserted into a Nintendo Switch.
Compatibility trade-off
Compatibility is broader than the feature set: the Switch 2 Edition can run on Nintendo Switch, but its enhanced presentation is limited to Nintendo Switch 2. If your household has both consoles, decide which system will be your primary play device before paying a premium for the newer edition.
Retailer and region checklist
- Confirm that the listing says “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension,” not just “Switch 2 Edition.”
- Check whether the package is physical and whether the base game and DLC are on one game card.
- Verify the announced October 29, 2026 release date and the retailer’s shipping or pickup estimate.
- Read the region information for the game card, DLC entitlement and serial code.
- Check whether the Pokémon Center sticker set or another gift is explicitly attached to your order.
- Keep your receipt and order confirmation in case the bonus, code or edition shown at checkout differs from the delivered package.
Common preorder mistakes and fixes
Ordering the wrong edition
Symptom: the listing includes “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” but says nothing about Mega Dimension. Fix: choose the full bundle title if the DLC is required; otherwise, buy the standalone edition and purchase the DLC separately later.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Expecting Switch 2 enhancements on Nintendo Switch
Symptom: the game runs on an older Switch but looks or performs like the original edition. Fix: this is expected. The Switch 2 Edition’s enhanced graphics, resolution and frame rates require Nintendo Switch 2.
Buying the bundle after already owning the base game
Symptom: you own the Switch 2 Edition and are considering the physical bundle only for Mega Dimension. Fix: follow the official guidance and buy the DLC separately; the bundle repeats the base game.
Assuming an old preorder gift is still claimable
Symptom: a page or resale listing mentions Ralts holding Gardevoirite or the original 100 Poké Balls code. Fix: those deadlines passed in February and March 2026. Treat such references as historical unless the seller provides a current, verifiable offer.
Assuming every retailer includes the same bonus
Symptom: a reservation lacks the sticker-set wording shown elsewhere. Fix: retailer bonuses depend on region, stock and qualifying terms. Verify the exact seller and offer before checkout.
