To play Xbox games through cloud gaming, use the Xbox app on a supported device or visit Xbox.com/play in a supported browser, sign in, choose a cloud-playable game, and start streaming. You’ll need a supported device and region, a compatible controller for most games, and a stable internet connection. Most catalog games require an eligible Game Pass plan; selected free-to-play titles can be played with a free Microsoft account in supported regions.
1. Check your Game Pass plan and region
Xbox says most cloud games require Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate. Selected free-to-play games, including Fortnite, are available with a free Microsoft account in supported regions. The eligible catalog and service availability can vary by plan and country, so check the current Xbox cloud gaming page for your location before you begin: Xbox Cloud Gaming.
A Game Pass subscription does not automatically make every game in its library streamable. Cloud availability also varies over time, by region, and by platform. Check the live catalog for the specific game you want to play.
2. Confirm that your device is supported
Xbox lists Windows PCs, Apple and Android phones and tablets, Xbox consoles, selected LG, Samsung, and VIDAA OS TVs, Amazon Fire TV devices, and selected Meta Quest headsets among the device families that can access cloud gaming. Compatibility is model-specific: not every device in a family, or every market, is supported. Use Xbox’s current device and availability information to check your exact device and country.

Choose the route that fits your hardware:
- Computer: Open Xbox.com/play in a supported browser, such as Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or Safari.
- Phone, tablet, TV, or other supported app device: Use the Xbox app or the platform-specific route Xbox lists for that device.
- Xbox console: Use the console’s cloud gaming option where available.

3. Connect a controller or use supported touch controls
Most cloud games require a compatible controller connected to your device by Bluetooth or USB. A controller you already own may work; Xbox does not require that it be an Xbox-branded controller. For TV play, Xbox lists Xbox controllers, Sony PlayStation controllers, and other compatible controllers. Selected games support Xbox touch controls, so you may be able to play on a touchscreen without a controller. 4. Check your internet connection
Xbox’s general FAQ gives 10 Mbps download speed as a minimum and says some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality; it recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi. For TV cloud gaming, Xbox recommends 20 Mbps down and a wired connection or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. 5. Sign in and start a cloud-playable game
- Connect your controller, if the game requires one, and connect your device to the internet.
- Open the Xbox app on an app-supported device, or visit Xbox.com/play in a supported browser.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that has the required Game Pass plan, or a free account for an eligible free-to-play game.
- Browse the cloud gaming catalog, select a game marked as playable through the cloud, and choose the play or stream option shown on your device.
Some games you own or buy can also be streamed, but ownership alone does not guarantee cloud access. Confirm that the title appears as cloud-playable for your account, device, region, and plan before troubleshooting your setup.

There is no universally best device: compatibility, available apps or browsers, input method, and network quality matter more than the device category alone.

If cloud gaming does not start
- The game is missing: Check that it is currently cloud-playable for your region and plan; not every subscribed or owned game is streamable.
- You cannot sign in or see the play option: Confirm you are using the account with the eligible plan, or a free Microsoft account for a supported free-to-play game, and that cloud gaming is available in your country.
- The device or app does not appear compatible: Check the exact model against Xbox’s current device list rather than relying on the device brand or operating system alone.
- Controls do not respond: Pair a compatible controller over Bluetooth or connect it by USB, or confirm that the specific game supports touch controls.
- Streaming is choppy: Check download speed and connection stability; Xbox recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi, and its TV guidance also recommends a wired connection.
