To play Uncharted 2: Among Thieves on either console, get UNCHARTED: The Nathan Drake Collection for PS4. The collection includes the complete single-player campaigns from Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Sony lists this PS4 release as playable on PS5, although some PS4 features may be absent. Install the collection from a disc or digital library, open it, and select Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
Do not buy UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection for this purpose. That PS5 collection contains Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, not Uncharted 2.
The short answer: which Uncharted collection contains Uncharted 2?
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is in UNCHARTED: The Nathan Drake Collection, the PS4 collection released on October 9, 2015 by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The package is playable on PS4 and on PS5 through backward compatibility.
- Correct product: UNCHARTED: The Nathan Drake Collection for PS4.
- Included game: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, as a single-player campaign.
- PS4: Install the collection and choose Uncharted 2 from its menu.
- PS5: Use the PS4 edition, install it on the console, and launch Uncharted 2 from the collection.
- Wrong product: UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection, which contains only Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy.
- Subscription route: A PlayStation Plus Premium access option is currently shown for the collection in the PlayStation Store, but catalog availability, eligibility, and price vary by country and can change.
The original collection listing presents the campaigns as a single-player package. It does not present the original multiplayer modes as included, so you should buy it for the story campaigns rather than expecting the multiplayer from the original release.
What you need before installing
The correct game listing
Search your console’s store or a retailer for the exact name UNCHARTED: The Nathan Drake Collection. Check that the product is identified as the PS4 collection. The important word is “Nathan Drake”; it distinguishes this package from the later Legacy of Thieves release.
A PS4 copy works on PS5
You do not need a separate PS5 version of Uncharted 2. The Nathan Drake Collection is a PS4 release that Sony marks as playable on PS5. Your access can come from either a physical PS4 disc or a digital PS4 license.
Current PS5 system software
When starting the collection on PS5, install any system-software update the console requests. Sony’s compatibility notice says: Although this game is playable on PS5, some features available on PS4 may be absent.
That is the official qualification; Sony does not promise that every PS4 feature behaves identically on PS5.

How to play Uncharted 2 on PS4
The PS4 procedure is straightforward because the collection was made for that console.
- Obtain the collection. Buy a physical copy of UNCHARTED: The Nathan Drake Collection, or purchase/redeem its digital PS4 edition through your PlayStation account.
- Install it. Insert the disc and follow the PS4 installation prompts, or open your Library, find the digital collection, and select Download. A disc copy must remain available when you start the game; a digital copy is tied to the account that owns it.
- Start the collection. Select the game tile from the PS4 home screen after installation finishes.
- Choose Among Thieves. On the collection’s game-selection screen, select Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. You can then begin its single-player campaign.
The collection is an anthology rather than a separate Uncharted 2 product. If you do not see a standalone Among Thieves icon in the PS4 Library, open the Nathan Drake Collection itself and choose the second game from its internal menu.
How to play Uncharted 2 on PS5
On PS5, use the PS4 version of The Nathan Drake Collection. The console runs that PS4 release through its compatibility support.
- Choose a PS4 copy. Use your physical Nathan Drake Collection disc or the digital license already attached to your PlayStation account.
- Install the collection.
- Disc: Insert the PS4 disc into a PS5 model with a disc drive and select the installation option shown on screen.
- Digital: Open Game Library, locate UNCHARTED: The Nathan Drake Collection, and select Download or Install.
- Apply any requested system update. If the PS5 asks to update its system software, complete that update before troubleshooting launch or compatibility behavior.
- Launch the collection. Open the installed game from the PS5 home screen or Game Library.
- Select Uncharted 2. Choose Uncharted 2: Among Thieves from the collection’s game menu.
If you own the disc, keep it inserted whenever you play. The disc acts as the license check even after the game data has been installed. A digital purchase does not require a disc, but you must be signed in to the PlayStation account that owns the license and have the installed title available in that account’s Game Library.
Physical disc, digital purchase, or PlayStation Plus Premium?
All three routes can provide access to the PS4 collection, but they work differently. The table describes the practical trade-offs without assuming a fixed price or permanent subscription catalog.
| Access route | How it works on PS4 | How it works on PS5 | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physical PS4 disc | Insert the disc, install the collection, and launch it from the console. | Install the PS4 disc on a PS5 with a disc drive, then keep the disc inserted when playing. | It is not suitable for a PS5 Digital Edition because that console has no disc drive. You also need to retain the disc for the license check. |
| Digital PS4 license | Download the collection from the owning PlayStation account’s Library and launch it after installation. | Download the PS4 edition from the same account’s Game Library and launch it on PS5. | Access follows the account that purchased or redeemed the license. Store listings and prices can differ by country. |
| PlayStation Plus Premium | If the title is offered in your local catalog and your membership is eligible, download or stream it using the options shown in the Store. | Use the PS5 Store listing and follow the current Premium access option if it is offered in your region. | Catalog membership, availability, price, and eligibility are regional and change over time. Verify the listing on your own console before relying on this route. |
The PlayStation Store currently shows a PlayStation Plus Premium access option for the collection in the available listing. That is a time- and region-sensitive storefront condition, not a guarantee that every subscriber in every country will see the same entitlement. If the option is absent, use a purchase or disc instead, or check whether your local Premium catalog has changed.
Do not confuse the two Uncharted collections
The names are similar, but the contents are different. Use this comparison before buying.
| Collection | Console release identified in the listings | Games included | Contains Uncharted 2? |
|---|---|---|---|
| UNCHARTED: The Nathan Drake Collection | PS4 release dated October 9, 2015 | Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception single-player campaigns | Yes |
| UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection | PS5 remaster | Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy | No |
Legacy of Thieves is not an upgraded edition of the Nathan Drake Collection. It is a separate package focused on the fourth numbered game and its spin-off. Buying it will not unlock Among Thieves.
What is included in the Nathan Drake Collection?
Three single-player campaigns
The collection groups the first three numbered adventures in one package. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is the second selectable campaign, alongside Drake’s Fortune and Drake’s Deception. You can play the campaigns in any order from the collection menu, although starting with the first game gives the series’ story its original sequence.
Do not expect the original multiplayer modes
The official listing presents the collection as a single-player package and does not list the original multiplayer modes as included. If your goal is the Among Thieves story, this is the correct product. If you are specifically looking for the original online multiplayer, the collection listing does not establish that it is available here, so do not purchase it on the assumption that those modes are included.
PS5 compatibility: what Sony does and does not promise
Sony’s listing confirms that the PS4 game is playable on PS5, but its wording includes an explicit limitation: Although this game is playable on PS5, some features available on PS4 may be absent.
Rank #3
- Play as Nathan Drake across a trilogy of thrilling, white-knuckle adventures. Experience Drake's relationships with those closest to him, as he struggles to balance adventure and family
- Brand-new trophies created exclusively for UNCHARTED's debut on the PS4 system
- Freeze gameplay at any time and take control of the camera to capture your most memorable moments from the trilogy to share with friends directly from your PS4 system. Utilize graphical filters, camera controls, and other options to customize your shot
That statement means compatibility is not the same as a promise of feature parity. The evidence establishes that the collection can be played on PS5; it does not establish a universal PS5 frame-rate figure, a particular resolution mode, or that every PS4-era feature will appear unchanged. Avoid relying on unofficial claims that guarantee a specific performance result across every PS5 system and software version.
Recommended Free Tools
If a PS4 option is missing after you move to PS5, first confirm that you installed the Nathan Drake Collection rather than Legacy of Thieves, then check for PS5 system updates and the latest game update offered by the console. The official compatibility qualification still applies after those checks.
Store rating, release date, and changing availability
The PlayStation Store listing snapshot available for 2026 shows an average rating of 4.62 out of 5 from 178,000 ratings. Store ratings are live storefront figures, so they can change as new ratings are added and should not be treated as a permanent specification of the game.
The collection’s published release date is October 9, 2015, with Sony Interactive Entertainment identified as the publisher for that release. The age of the PS4 package does not prevent it from being used on PS5; the relevant point is Sony’s current compatibility designation.
Troubleshooting common access problems
The game does not appear in your Library
- Confirm that you are signed in to the PlayStation account that bought or redeemed the digital collection.
- Search for the full title, UNCHARTED: The Nathan Drake Collection, rather than searching only for “Uncharted 2.”
- Check your purchase or subscription entitlement in the Store. A Premium catalog title may disappear or become unavailable when the catalog changes.
- If you own a disc, insert it and allow the console to recognize the license before looking for the installed game.
You bought Legacy of Thieves by mistake
That package cannot launch Among Thieves because it contains Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy only. Look for The Nathan Drake Collection instead. The two collections are separate products, and installing one does not add the campaigns from the other.

A disc works on PS4 but not on your PS5
Check the hardware model. A physical PS4 disc requires a PS5 with a disc drive; it cannot be inserted into a PS5 Digital Edition. On a compatible PS5, insert the disc, let the console install the game, and leave the disc inserted whenever you launch it.
The PS5 asks for an update
Install the requested PS5 system-software update and retry the launch. Sony specifically notes that current system software may be required for PS5 playability. If the issue persists, verify that the installed product is the PS4 Nathan Drake Collection and not an unrelated Uncharted title.
Rank #4
- New Trophies - Brand-new trophies created exclusively for UNCHARTED’s debut on the PS4 system.
- Unparalleled Story - Play as Nathan Drake across a trilogy of thrilling, white-knuckle adventures. Experience Drake’s relationships with those closest to him, as he struggles to balance adventure and family.
- Photo Mode - Freeze gameplay at any time and take control of the camera to capture your most memorable moments from the trilogy to share with friends directly from your PS4 system. Utilize graphical filters, camera controls, and other options to customize your shot.
You cannot find the PlayStation Plus Premium option
Premium catalogs are country-specific and change over time. Open the Store listing on the console connected to your account and check the current membership option, price, and eligibility. If the collection is not listed for your region or account, a physical disc or digital purchase is the dependable alternative.
You expected multiplayer
The official collection listing describes the three campaigns as single-player content and does not present the original multiplayer modes as included. Treat the package as a story-focused collection. Do not use the presence of the word “collection” as evidence that every mode from the original releases is present.

Choose a physical disc if you already own one
A PS4 Nathan Drake Collection disc is the simplest way to use an existing copy on PS4 or on a PS5 with a disc drive. Install it, select Among Thieves, and keep the disc inserted for future launches. This route avoids depending on a changing subscription catalog, but it cannot be used on a PS5 Digital Edition.
Choose a digital license for convenience
A digital PS4 license is practical when you use a PS5 Digital Edition, do not want to swap discs, or want the collection available in your Game Library. Make sure the purchase is made on the account you will use to play, because the entitlement follows that account.
Choose Premium only after checking your local listing
Premium can be worthwhile if the collection is currently included in your country and your membership is already active. It is less predictable as a long-term ownership method because catalog titles, eligibility, and pricing can change. Verify the listing immediately before downloading, especially if you are planning a long playthrough.
Final checklist
- Confirm the title says UNCHARTED: The Nathan Drake Collection.
- Confirm it is the PS4 collection, whether you are installing it on PS4 or PS5.
- Use a disc on PS4 or a PS5 with a disc drive, or use a digital license on either console.
- On PS5, install requested system-software updates.
- Open the collection and select Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
- Expect the listed single-player campaign; do not assume original multiplayer is included.
- Do not buy Legacy of Thieves for Uncharted 2.
- If using PlayStation Plus Premium, verify your country’s current catalog, price, and eligibility first.
Verdict
The Nathan Drake Collection is the correct and officially supported way to play Uncharted 2: Among Thieves on PS4 and PS5. Buy or access the PS4 collection, install it, and choose the second campaign. PS5 compatibility is confirmed, but Sony cautions that some PS4 features may be absent. Legacy of Thieves is not an alternative because it contains only Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy.
