Play Fears to Fathom in release order: Home Alone, Norwood Hitchhike, Carson House, Ironbark Lookout, Woodbury Getaway, then Scratch Creek. The series is an episodic psychological-horror anthology: each chapter follows a different survivor, place and immediate danger. You do not need to complete one episode to understand the next, but release order gives you the clearest introduction to the series and shows how its situations and presentation evolve.

The correct Fears to Fathom play order

The six released episodes, in publication order, are:

Order Episode Release date Protagonist and setup Format note
1 Home Alone July 2, 2021 Miles, 14, is home alone while his parents are away for work. Series introduction; listed as free to play on Steam.
2 Norwood Hitchhike January 6, 2022 Holly Gardner, 19, is driving interstate and ends up at a motel in Norwood Valley. Standalone survivor story.
3 Carson House January 9, 2023 Noah Baker, 18, is house-sitting for a media personality. Standalone survivor story.
4 Ironbark Lookout October 20, 2023 Jack Nelson, 24, transfers to a fire lookout in Ironbark State Park. Standalone survivor story.
5 Woodbury Getaway September 12, 2024 Sydney Harper, 23, plans a weekend at a Woodbury rental with college friends. Standalone survivor story.
6 Scratch Creek June 10, 2026 The latest episode introduces a new survivor situation at Scratch Creek. Officially described as exclusively online co-op upon release.

The dates are the release dates published in the official Fears to Fathom Steam catalog, accessed in 2026. Store availability, regional access and pricing can change, so use the current Steam listing for the episode you intend to play.

Why release order is the best first playthrough

The official series description calls Fears to Fathom an episodic psychological-horror anthology. Episodes are short, survivor-narrated stories with different protagonists and settings rather than chapters in one continuous campaign. That means release order is a recommendation for context and pacing, not a continuity requirement.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Each episode has its own entry point

You can start with any available chapter without first learning a shared cast, fictional history or combat system. Home Alone does not function as a required prologue for Norwood Hitchhike, and later episodes are not locked behind earlier ones according to the official series description.

Release order shows the anthology developing

Playing chronologically lets you see the series move from a teenager alone in a familiar house to road travel, house-sitting, wilderness isolation, a group rental and finally an explicitly online-co-op scenario. The settings change, but the survivor-focused framing remains the connective idea.

It avoids choosing a setting before you know the series

If you have no preference, the first episode is the lowest-friction introduction: it establishes the tone and structure, and it is listed as free to play on Steam. After that, you can continue in order or select an episode whose location appeals to you.

What happens in each episode

These summaries are deliberately limited to premise, protagonist and setting so you can choose a starting point without spoiling the stories.

1. Home Alone (July 2, 2021)

Miles is 14 and staying home while his parents are away for work. The setup turns an ordinary domestic space into the first anthology scenario. It is the natural starting point if you want the series introduction, a home-based threat and the simplest way to sample the format. Steam lists this episode as free to play; confirm the current listing before downloading because store information can change.

2. Norwood Hitchhike (January 6, 2022)

Holly Gardner, 19, is driving interstate and ends up at a motel in Norwood Valley. Choose it when the appeal of a journey, roadside stop and unfamiliar lodging is stronger than the home-invasion setup of the first episode. It is also a good second chapter because the premise changes the source of vulnerability without requiring knowledge of Miles’s story.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

3. Carson House (January 9, 2023)

Noah Baker, 18, is house-sitting for a media personality. The central situation combines responsibility for someone else’s property with domestic surveillance tension. It suits players who prefer a residence with a specific owner and social context rather than a family home or roadside motel.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Ironbark Lookout (October 20, 2023)

Jack Nelson, 24, transfers to a fire lookout in Ironbark State Park. The isolated tower and state-park setting provide the most overtly wilderness-focused premise in the released lineup. Start here if distance from towns, a remote work assignment and a lookout post are the features you find most unnerving.

5. Woodbury Getaway (September 12, 2024)

Sydney Harper, 23, plans a weekend at a Woodbury rental with college friends. This changes the social geometry: the protagonist is not simply alone at the outset, and the location is a holiday rental rather than a permanent home or workplace. It is the best fit for players who want a group-trip premise and a contemporary getaway setting.

6. Scratch Creek (June 10, 2026)

Scratch Creek is the newest listed episode. The official Steam Community announcement says, “This episode is exclusively online co-op upon release.” That makes it the obvious choice for a two-player or group session, but it also means it is not the right first purchase if you need a solo experience. Check the current Steam page for the exact player requirements and availability in your region before planning a session.

Which episode should you start with?

Use the following decision guide if release order is not your only concern:

For a group watching or playing together

If your priority is a shared session rather than chronology, investigate Scratch Creek first. Its official release announcement is the only supplied format statement that explicitly requires online co-op. Organize the players and connection method before purchase, and check the current Steam listing for any session, platform or account requirements.

For a player who wants the shortest commitment

The episodes are designed as short stories, so the practical difference is premise rather than a published campaign-length ranking. Choose the setting you are most likely to finish, then return to release order for the remaining chapters.

How to play the episodes in release order

  1. Open the current Steam catalog entry for Fears to Fathom. Use the publisher’s episode listings rather than an old bundle page or a third-party price tracker, because availability and prices can change.
  2. Install Home Alone first. Confirm that the listing is available in your region and note that it is currently presented as free to play.
  3. Play the episodes in sequence. After finishing Home Alone, move to Norwood Hitchhike, then Carson House, Ironbark Lookout and Woodbury Getaway.
  4. Decide how to handle Scratch Creek. Keep it as the sixth release if you want strict chronology. If it is your preferred premise, you may play it earlier, but arrange an online-co-op session because the official announcement says that is its release format.
  5. Check each store page immediately before buying or scheduling. The catalog dates establish release order, not a permanent promise about regional availability, discounts or supported configurations.

Does the order matter for the story?

Not in the way it would for a serialized adventure. The official site presents each episode as a separate survivor-narrated story with its own protagonist and setting, and it does not state that an earlier episode must be completed to understand a later one. There is no announced prerequisite such as carrying a save file, importing choices or unlocking chapters in sequence.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Order still matters as a viewing and playing experience. Starting with the first release gives you the intended historical introduction, while the later chapters can then be read as variations on the anthology’s approach to ordinary places and personal vulnerability. If you start elsewhere, you are choosing a different entry point, not breaking the narrative.

Solo play, online co-op and what is confirmed

The episode premises are written around one named survivor at a time, but the clearest explicit multiplayer information applies to Scratch Creek: the official Steam announcement dated June 2026 says it is “exclusively online co-op upon release.” Do not assume that a solo workaround exists or that local co-op is supported unless the current store page says so.

For the earlier episodes, use the current listing to confirm the platform and player information you need. Their anthology descriptions establish different protagonists and situations; they do not, in the supplied official statements, provide a single multiplayer rule that should be generalized across every chapter.

Planning a Scratch Creek session

  • Confirm every participant can access the same current store listing or supported platform.
  • Check the required number of players and whether each person needs their own copy or account.
  • Arrange voice communication separately if the store page does not promise built-in voice chat.
  • Update the game before the session, since a newly released online mode can receive compatibility fixes.
  • If a friend cannot join, verify the store page’s region, platform and network requirements before treating it as a story-order problem.

Availability, editions and pricing

The episode release dates in this guide come from the official Fears to Fathom Steam publisher catalog as accessed in 2026. They do not guarantee that every episode is currently sold in every country, that a bundle has the same contents, or that a listed price will remain unchanged. Steam pages can also distinguish between a free title, a paid episode and a temporary promotion.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Home Alone is listed as free to play, but you should still open its current page to confirm that status and any platform requirements. For the other episodes, no fixed price is stated here because prices and availability are volatile. Compare the individual listing and any official bundle only after checking which episodes are included.

Common mistakes when choosing an order

Assuming the episodes form one continuous campaign

They are an anthology, so a later protagonist is not presented as the next chapter of Miles’s life. If you begin with Ironbark Lookout because you prefer its setting, you are not missing a required plot tutorial.

Treating release dates as a chronology inside the fiction

The dates tell you when the episodes were published: July 2, 2021; January 6, 2022; January 9, 2023; October 20, 2023; September 12, 2024; and June 10, 2026. They do not establish that the fictional events occur in that same calendar order.

Buying Scratch Creek for a solo commute

Its official release announcement says online co-op is exclusive upon release. Confirm that requirement before purchase if you normally play alone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Relying on an old price or availability claim

Use the live Steam listing for current regional access, pricing, supported systems and player information. A guide can preserve the release sequence, but it cannot freeze store data.

Looking for a required completion checklist

Because the stories are separate, you can stop after any episode and return later without losing a serialized plot thread. Keep your own order notes only if you want to track which anthology premises you have completed.

A spoiler-light route for different readers

Complete anthology route

Play all six in release order: Home Alone → Norwood Hitchhike → Carson House → Ironbark Lookout → Woodbury Getaway → Scratch Creek. This is the default recommendation and the only route that preserves publication sequence.

Setting-first route

Pick the premise that best matches your tolerance for domestic, roadside, house-sitting, wilderness, group-rental or online-co-op tension. Once you finish that episode, return to the six-title list rather than searching for a hidden chronological dependency.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Co-op-first route

Start with Scratch Creek only when you already have an online group and have confirmed the current technical requirements. Continue with Home Alone through Woodbury Getaway afterward to experience the earlier solo-oriented survivor premises in publication order.

Quick answer

For nearly every first-time player, the answer is: Home Alone → Norwood Hitchhike → Carson House → Ironbark Lookout → Woodbury Getaway → Scratch Creek. You can safely jump to another episode because the anthology uses separate protagonists and settings. Choose Home Alone for the introduction, a setting-specific episode for its premise, or Scratch Creek when online co-op is the deciding feature; verify current Steam availability and requirements before downloading or organizing a session.
