Yes—Kitaria Fables 2 is planned to support two-player co-op both locally and online. The Steam listing includes shared/split-screen co-op, online co-op, Remote Play Together and full controller support. Xbox lists local co-op (2–2) and online co-op (2–2).

The game is planned for release in Q2 2027 and is not yet available on Steam, so the exact menu names, invitation process and networking behavior could change before launch. The instructions below separate confirmed features from details that still need final release documentation.

What co-op features are confirmed?

The official store listings describe Kitaria Fables 2 as a two-player adventure in which both heroes participate throughout the story. Steam’s description says players can “Recruit a friend in local or online co-op, and play through the entire story with both heroes at the same time.” An official Steam community announcement additionally calls it “a fully integrated drop in/out 2 player local co-op mode.”

Platform or listing Confirmed modes Player information Important requirement or status
Steam Single-player, online co-op, shared/split-screen co-op and Remote Play Together Two heroes are intended to play together Full controller support is listed; release is planned for Q2 2027 and the game is not currently available
Xbox Local co-op and online co-op Store metadata specifies “2–2” for each mode Online console multiplayer requires Game Pass Core or Ultimate, sold separately
PlayStation Store concept page Local or online co-op The page promises both heroes can play through the story together; a separate player-count figure is not stated The page is a concept listing, so check the final product page for launch requirements

“2–2” in the Xbox listing is the platform’s way of showing a two-player range, not an indication that larger parties are supported. Nothing in the cited official material confirms three- or four-player co-op.

When can you play?

Steam currently gives Q2 2027 as the planned release window. No exact day is established in the cited listings, and the Steam page says the title is not yet available. Until the launch build is published, screenshots, menu labels and network options should be treated as provisional rather than final instructions.

That timing matters when preparing a co-op session. You can decide which platform and control setup you want now, but you cannot yet create a game lobby or test invitations in the released game. Recheck the official Steam, Xbox and PlayStation pages near launch for the final release date, edition availability and any changed requirements.

Choose the co-op method that fits your group

Local or shared-screen co-op

Local play uses one PC or console in the same room. You connect two compatible controllers to that system and select the local/shared-screen co-op option in the finished game. This is the simplest arrangement when both players are together and avoids each player needing a separate copy or internet connection for the game session.

Steam lists both “shared/split screen” co-op and full controller support. Xbox separately confirms two-player local co-op. The listings do not explain whether every scene uses a permanently divided screen or whether the camera sometimes keeps both characters on one shared view, so do not assume a specific screen layout before release.

Online co-op

Online play connects two people on separate systems. Both players will need access to the game on a supported platform, an internet connection and whatever account or platform sign-in the final release requires. You will then use the platform’s friend and invitation tools, or an in-game co-op menu if one is provided.

Xbox explicitly states that console online multiplayer requires Game Pass Core or Ultimate, sold separately. The cited material does not establish an equivalent subscription requirement for PC or PlayStation, so verify those platform policies when the game launches rather than assuming that an Xbox rule applies everywhere.

Steam Remote Play Together

Remote Play Together is listed on Steam for Kitaria Fables 2. It is designed for a friend to join a local-style session remotely, using Steam’s streaming and input-sharing system. Because the store page does not yet provide final button-by-button directions, plan to start the game, open the Steam overlay and use the Remote Play Together invitation controls once the feature is enabled in the release build.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Remote Play Together should be considered a separate option from the game’s native online co-op. The listing confirms that the feature is supported, but it does not state whether a guest needs to own the game, what input limits apply, or how voice chat is handled. Check Steam’s current overlay prompts and the game’s launch documentation before relying on those details.

How to set up local co-op

Use this procedure when both players are sitting at the same PC or console. Since the game has not launched, the wording of the menus may differ.

  1. Prepare one supported system. Install the final game on the PC or console that both people will use. On PC, Steam lists full controller support, but it does not identify every compatible controller model.
  2. Connect two controllers. Pair or plug in both devices before launching if possible. Confirm that the operating system or console recognizes each controller separately and that both have sufficient battery charge.
  3. Start the game. At the title screen or main menu, look for the local co-op, shared-screen or split-screen option. The final release may place it under a “Co-op,” “Multiplayer” or similar heading; the exact label has not been published.
  4. Join the second player. Follow the on-screen prompt for the second controller. If the game uses a button press to join, press it only on the controller intended for the second character so the assignments do not get swapped.
  5. Assign the heroes. The Steam description presents Alice Skylar and Dusty Tuftkin as the two heroes played together. The final build should identify which player controls each character during the join process; confirm the assignment before starting the story.
  6. Launch or load the story. The official description says co-op is intended to cover the entire story. Select a new or existing save as permitted by the release build, then verify that both characters respond before beginning a long session.

If the second controller does not join

  • Close other games or controller-mapping applications that may have captured one device.
  • Reconnect the controller, then return to the game’s co-op screen rather than plugging it in after the session has already started.
  • On PC, check Steam’s controller settings and confirm that the device appears before launching Kitaria Fables 2.
  • On a console, sign the second controller into the appropriate local profile if the system asks for one. The game’s final account rules are not yet documented, so follow the launch-day prompt instead of creating unnecessary accounts in advance.
  • If the co-op option is missing entirely, confirm that you are running the released build. A pre-release, demo or outdated installation may not contain the final local mode.

How to set up online co-op

Use online co-op when each player is at a separate location. The exact invitation screens have not been documented, so the sequence below is a launch-day checklist rather than a promise about final button names.

  1. Confirm platform compatibility. Both players need access to Kitaria Fables 2 on a supported platform. The available listings do not confirm cross-play between Steam, Xbox and PlayStation.
  2. Check network access. Use a stable internet connection and make sure each player is signed in to the platform account used to play. If the platform displays a multiplayer privacy or communication setting, allow invitations from the other player.
  3. Meet the Xbox subscription requirement where applicable. Xbox says online console multiplayer requires Game Pass Core or Ultimate, sold separately. Check the current Xbox account and store notices at launch for the account-specific requirement.
  4. Open the co-op or multiplayer menu. One player should start the session or host it if the game uses a host model. Look for a friend list, invite command or session code in the final interface.
  5. Send and accept the invitation. Use the platform’s friend/invite system or the in-game command shown by the release build. Keep both players on the same platform ecosystem unless official documentation later confirms cross-platform support.
  6. Verify both heroes before loading in. Make sure the joining player appears in the lobby and that the game identifies both Alice Skylar and Dusty Tuftkin as active characters before starting the story.

Online invitation problems

  • No invite appears: Confirm that both players are online, friends or otherwise permitted to invite each other, and running the same current game version. Restarting the platform’s friend application can refresh a stale presence status.
  • The session cannot be joined: Check whether either player is in a single-player activity that blocks joining, then return to the main menu and create a fresh co-op session. The final game may impose its own save or progression rules.
  • Connection drops: Have both players use a reliable connection, pause large downloads and retry from a newly created lobby. Do not assume that a disconnect will preserve progress until the release notes explain how drop-in/drop-out recovery works.
  • Cross-platform invite fails: Cross-play is not confirmed in the cited listings. Treat a failed cross-platform invitation as an unsupported combination until an official launch notice says otherwise.

How Remote Play Together differs from native online co-op

Steam’s Remote Play Together designation means Steam can treat the session like local co-op while streaming the host’s game to a remote participant. That can be useful when only one person is physically running the game, but it depends on the host computer’s performance, upload connection and input latency.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Launch Kitaria Fables 2 on Steam after the feature is active in the released build.
  2. Open the Steam overlay while the game is running.
  3. Use the Remote Play Together invitation control shown in the overlay and select your friend.
  4. Have the friend accept the invitation and connect an input device when Steam prompts them.
  5. Return to the game’s local co-op screen and join the second player if the game requires an in-game join action.

The final listing does not specify the guest’s ownership requirement, supported input devices, voice-chat behavior or maximum streaming quality. Those details should come from the release version of Steam and the game, not from assumptions about how another title handles Remote Play Together.

Controllers, characters and play roles

For couch co-op, plan on two compatible controllers. Steam advertises full controller support, and Xbox identifies the local mode as a two-player feature. Keyboard-and-controller combinations, accessibility devices and specific third-party models are not described in the cited material, so verify them against the final PC and console support pages.

The store description identifies Alice Skylar and Dusty Tuftkin as the heroes played together. The available information does not provide a class chart, permanent role restrictions or a rule saying one hero must always host. Avoid planning a build around those details until the developers publish the final gameplay documentation.

The “drop in/out” description indicates that local co-op is intended to let a second player join or leave during play. It does not establish how unsaved progress, inventory, quests or a disconnected player are handled. Test those behaviors with a short session after launch before committing to a long shared campaign.

Platform planning at a glance

Your situation Most suitable option What to prepare What is still unknown

Two people on separate systems Native online co-op Game access for both players, platform accounts and internet connections Invitation flow, account rules and cross-play support

Xbox console online session Xbox online co-op Two-player setup and Game Pass Core or Ultimate for online console multiplayer Whether any additional launch-specific account restrictions apply

Launch-day checklist

  • Confirm that the game has reached its official release rather than relying on the planned Q2 2027 window.
  • Update the game and the platform software before inviting anyone.
  • For local play, connect and test both controllers at the system level.
  • For online Xbox play, verify the required Game Pass Core or Ultimate subscription.
  • Decide whether you are using native online co-op or Steam Remote Play Together; they are different connection methods.
  • Keep both players on a platform combination officially documented as compatible. Cross-play is not established by the current listings.
  • Start with a short test session to check joining, character assignment, saving and reconnecting.
  • Save or exit through the game’s normal controls before shutting down the host system.

What is not confirmed yet

Several practical details remain open because the available pages describe planned features rather than a released build. No cited source gives the final invitation screens, cross-play policy, account requirements outside the Xbox subscription statement, save-transfer behavior, or release-day menu labels. The PlayStation concept page repeats the local-and-online promise but does not add those technical details.

As a result, the safest plan is to use the confirmed hardware and mode information above, then consult the final platform listing and in-game help after launch. Do not pay for an additional subscription, buy a second copy or promise a cross-platform session solely on the basis of an unverified guide.
