FriendSLAP is the working label for Keep It Up!, a cooperative physics game in which one to four players slap, jump and collide around obstacle rooms to stop a balloon touching the floor. The most reliable way to extend a run is to read the balloon’s arc, move to the next contact point, use the smallest correction that keeps it in an open lane, and call the next direction before anyone swings. A drop costs a life; when the team has none left, the run ends.
What FriendSLAP actually is
FriendSLAP refers to Hitbox Entertainment’s Keep It Up!. The Steam listing describes a solo option and co-op for up to three Facility test subjects joining the host, for a maximum of four players. Everyone shares one objective: keep a balloon airborne while moving through obstacle rooms.
The game is listed with a playable Steam demo and a planned Q4 2026 release. Features, room count and hazards can therefore be discussed from the current listing and announcement, but exact controls and final balancing may change before release.

Each room is a continuous save exercise. The balloon must not touch the floor while the team navigates fans, spikes, lasers, narrow passages and increasingly difficult layouts. A single drop removes one life. Once the shared supply is exhausted, the attempt ends and the final dropped balloon takes the team with it.

Alibi Games summarized the consequence in its 16 October 2026 press release: “Drop the balloon? It literally explodes. Run out of lives? The whole team is incinerated… Simple!”
The published material does not state the exact number of lives, whether rooms contain checkpoints, or whether a life is restored between rooms. Treat those details as unknown until the game’s final documentation or in-game tutorial confirms them.
Player count and role planning
| Mode | Players | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| Solo | 1 | You must cover every approach and recovery angle yourself; the game’s final solo tuning is not stated. |
| Co-op | 2–4 | Assign lanes and call contacts so players do not collide or swing at the same time. |
| Maximum listed party | 4 | The Steam description says one player can play alone or up to three additional Facility test subjects can join. |
Do not assume that more players automatically make a room easier. Additional bodies provide more rescue angles, but they also create accidental contacts and block sight lines. Start each room with a simple assignment:
- Primary receiver: moves toward the next expected contact point.
- Low-save player: stays ready for a balloon that drops below the planned route.
- Lane watcher: watches the next hazard or corridor and calls the safe side.
- Reserve: remains clear of the active lane for a last-second correction.
With two players, combine the lane watcher and reserve. In solo play, rotate your attention in the same order: forecast the path, secure the immediate save, then prepare the next lane.
The contact technique that keeps the balloon up
Read the arc, not the shadow
Before swinging, identify whether the balloon is rising, falling or drifting sideways. Move toward where it will be when your hand or body reaches it, rather than chasing the point directly beneath it. This forecast is especially important near walls and hazards, where a late chase can turn a safe descent into a spike or laser collision.
Make the smallest useful correction
A controlled tap that returns the balloon to an open lane is usually safer than a full-power hit. Strong contacts can send it into a ceiling, fan, spike line or the far wall before the next player is ready. The game has not published force values, so treat this as a practical rule derived from the documented hazards, not as a measured physics threshold.

Guide sideways when height is already safe
When the balloon has enough altitude, use a side-on correction to place it where the next player can receive it. Adding unnecessary vertical force creates a longer, less predictable arc. Near a fan or in a narrow corridor, predictable movement is more valuable than distance.
Leave room for the next player
After contact, clear the receiver’s approach. Two players reaching for the same point can collide, slap the balloon in opposite directions, or hide it from the person making the next save. A successful touch is not complete until the following player has a visible route.
Communication that prevents panic swings
Use short calls while the balloon is still traveling. A shared vocabulary is faster than explaining a full plan during a fall:
- Left / right: the next safe side.
- High: prepare for a rising contact or an upper lane.
- Short: expect a nearby, gentle correction.
- Save: abandon the planned route and take the lowest-risk emergency touch.
- Clear: the active receiver has the lane; everyone else should hold position.
Call the direction before the balloon reaches the receiver. Early information lets that player choose a side-on angle and prevents two people from reacting to the same late bounce. If a room repeatedly exposes the same weakness, rotate the role rather than changing every player’s position at once.
A repeatable procedure for every room
- Survey the route. Identify the next open lane, the nearest hazard and where a miss would leave the balloon. The official materials do not publish hazard activation cycles, so observe the room rather than relying on a fixed timer.
- Choose roles. Name the primary receiver, low-save player, lane watcher and reserve. In a two-person team, state who is responsible for the next contact and who is covering below.
- Track the current arc. As soon as the balloon is touched, announce its likely direction and whether the next contact should be high, short or a rescue.
- Move before the descent. Travel to the predicted contact point while the balloon is rising or crossing. Waiting until it is directly overhead usually produces a rushed swing.
- Apply one controlled touch. Use enough force to restore a safe lane. Avoid adding speed toward a wall, ceiling, fan or spike line unless the alternative is an immediate drop.
- Clear the lane. After your touch, move away from the receiver’s approach and confirm that the next player is ready.
- Reassess after hazards. Fans, lasers and tight corridors can change the safe route. Replace the previous call with a new one instead of assuming the same angle will work.
- Review one variable after a drop. Identify the last safe touch, then change only one factor on the next attempt: receiver position, call timing or contact strength. This isolates the cause instead of creating several new problems.
Hazard-by-hazard playbook
| Hazard or layout | Safer approach | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Spikes | Stabilize toward open space and reduce lateral speed before the spike line. | Adding a panic swing that sends the balloon farther across the hazard. |
| Fans | Expect the arc to change; leave extra room for a follow-up correction and keep calls early. | Using the pre-fan trajectory as if airflow had not altered it. |
| Lasers | Choose a predictable crossing and announce it while the balloon is approaching the lane. | Changing direction at the last moment, forcing the receiver to guess. |
| Tight corridors | Approach from the side, use a gentle touch and position the next receiver before contact. | Driving the balloon vertically into a ceiling or arriving after it has already passed. |
| Escalating layouts | Keep the same communication routine, then adjust one role or timing detail at a time. | Reassigning everyone after every mistake and losing a stable pattern. |
The published descriptions mention 15 escalating rooms. They do not provide exact force tables, collision rules or activation schedules, so learn each room’s timing from observation in the demo rather than treating an online number as authoritative.

How to recover a bad bounce
The balloon is falling near you
Take the shortest safe route to the predicted contact point. Do not make a large detour to restore the original plan; a low, controlled save is more valuable than a perfect route that arrives too late. Call “save” so teammates stop competing for the same touch.

Two players are converging
The player with the clearer side-on angle should commit. The other should brake, move out of the lane and prepare for the next touch. If both continue, their collision can create a worse trajectory than either player would have produced alone.
The balloon is heading toward a hazard
Prioritize direction over distance. A modest lateral correction into open space is preferable to a powerful hit that crosses the hazard at speed. Near fans, expect the route to change again and keep a second receiver ready.
A drop keeps happening in the same place
Watch the last safe contact, not the final explosion. If the balloon was already too far sideways, change the contact strength. If it was safe but nobody arrived, change receiver position. If two people reacted late, change the call timing. Make one adjustment per attempt so you know which change helped.
Solo play: cover the responsibilities yourself
Solo play removes communication delays but also removes backup. Use a repeating scan: balloon position, next contact point, hazard lane, then recovery space. Move toward the next contact while the balloon is still rising, and keep enough room to step into a low save without trapping yourself against an obstacle.
Because the final game’s solo balance and controls are not documented, do not assume that a solo run uses a different life count or altered physics. The same published objective applies: keep the balloon off the floor and protect the shared run from unnecessary high-force contacts.

Arc-reading drill
For several safe contacts, say “rising,” “falling” or “sideways” before moving. The purpose is to train prediction rather than reaction. If you are consistently late, begin moving earlier; do not compensate by swinging harder.

Small-correction drill
Attempt to return the balloon to an open central lane with the least movement possible. This builds control for rooms where a full-power contact would reach a wall, ceiling or hazard.

Assign one player to the next lane and require everyone else to hold clear. Rotate the owner after a successful sequence. This exposes whether failures come from positioning or from competing approaches.
One-variable review
After a drop, state one diagnosis: “too strong,” “late call” or “wrong receiver.” Try only that correction on the next attempt. Changing several variables at once makes it impossible to tell whether the room or the team caused the improvement.
Optional real-world balloon practice
If you want to rehearse timing away from the game, use a clear area, one inflated latex balloon and spare inflated balloons. A Yombu rule set counts each touch and resets when the balloon reaches the floor. Another cited variation uses flat-hand hits and forbids the same player from hitting twice in a row. These are optional training rules, not stated requirements for Keep It Up!.
- Remove furniture, sharp edges and anything that could injure a player or burst the balloon.
- Nominate a caller who announces the next side before the balloon descends.
- Count contacts only if your group wants a measurable practice target; the video game’s scoring system has not been published.
- Stop immediately if a player loses footing or the balloon moves outside the clear area.

Availability and release caveats
The Steam demo is the appropriate place to learn the currently exposed controls, room behavior and multiplayer flow. The planned Q4 2026 release means labels, balancing and even individual room details may change. Do not promise a particular keybind, life total, checkpoint system or hazard timing unless the final game displays it.

Quick pre-room checklist
- Who is receiving the next contact?
- Which side is open after the next hazard?
- Who covers a low save?
- What single word will signal an emergency contact?
- Can the active player reach the predicted point without crossing another player?
- Is the planned touch a small correction rather than an unnecessary power hit?
Use that checklist, keep calls early and change only one variable after a failure. Those habits give every player more time to reach the next contact without relying on unpublished physics numbers or guesswork.
