Yes—Fortnite players on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and supported mobile devices can play together. To get everyone into the same session, make sure each player can access the game, use the right Epic Games account, add one another as Epic friends, and check the cross-play and party settings that apply to their platform.
Choose how each player will access Fortnite
Epic lists Fortnite for PC; PlayStation 4 and 5; Xbox One and Series consoles; Nintendo Switch; Android; and iPhone and iPad. A platform-family listing does not guarantee that every device or operating-system version is supported. Check Epic’s PC, Android, or iOS requirements where relevant.
Install on PC or console
Install Fortnite using the store or launcher for the device, then sign in with the Epic Games account that holds the player’s Fortnite progress. Use that same Epic account when linking the platform identity, rather than creating a second account simply to get into a cross-play party.
Install or stream on a phone or tablet
Mobile availability depends on device and location. Epic currently lists Android downloads through Google Play or the Epic Games Store app worldwide. Its iPhone and iPad App Store route is listed worldwide except Australia; other Epic Store routes are available in certain territories. Check Epic’s current mobile installation instructions for the route available in your country and device.

If a local install is unavailable, Epic lists Xbox Cloud Gaming, GeForce NOW, and Amazon Luna as cloud-play options. Availability depends on supported regions and a stable internet connection. Cloud play does not remove mobile input restrictions: Epic says mouse and keyboard cannot be used with Fortnite on mobile, including through cloud streaming. Its mobile storefront FAQ describes the mobile game as a full version with cross-platform play and account progression, but that does not override regional or device requirements.
Use the Epic account that has the right progress
For continuity, link each console or platform identity to the same Epic Games account. Epic says eligible purchases and progress are available across linked Xbox, PlayStation, PC, Switch, and mobile accounts, with V-Bucks excepted. Do not assume every balance or item follows the same cross-platform rule.

If a console identity is already linked to another Epic account, you may encounter a linking error. Epic also says different progress histories on platform accounts cannot be combined: choose which history to keep before syncing. Avoid unlinking or linking accounts casually if you are unsure which account contains the progress you want.
Add friends by Epic display name
- From Fortnite’s lobby, open the profile or social controls.
- Choose Add Friends.
- Enter the other player’s Epic display name and send the friend request.
- Have the other player accept it; the accepted request appears in the friend list.
Epic’s support page says, “You can play Fortnite with friends on any platform!” Use the Epic display name for this flow; a platform gamertag may not be the name Fortnite asks you to search.

PlayStation
- In the Fortnite lobby, open Menu and select Settings.
- Open Account And Privacy, then find Gameplay Privacy.
- Set Allow Cross Platform Play to Yes.
Xbox
Epic directs Xbox players to the console’s cross-network multiplayer setting. Use Epic’s current Xbox cross-play instructions; do not assume the PlayStation in-game path applies.

Switch, PC, and mobile
Epic says Fortnite does not provide an in-game option to disable cross-play on Switch, PC, or mobile. The setting availability differs by platform, so a missing toggle on these devices is expected.
Disabling cross-play where the option exists can restrict some modes to Solo and may increase queue friction; Epic says cross-play lowers queue times, but does not publish a queue-time figure. If a setting label or location differs, follow Epic’s current platform-specific guidance rather than copying another console’s steps.

Join the party and allow communication
Once the players are Epic friends, invite them to a party from Fortnite’s social or friend list and have them join. If the invite or party option is unavailable, check the account’s joinability and communication permissions. Voice and text access can be affected by Fortnite settings, parental controls, and platform-level settings.
Epic says Party Joinability defaults to Invite Only for accounts belonging to players under 18 and for cabined accounts; under-18 users can change it to Friends. Parents can manage communication permissions through Epic parental controls. Screen-time and payment controls vary across supported devices, and Android’s native parental controls differ by device, so there is no single mobile settings path for every family.
Quick Recap
Choose local play, cloud play, and input deliberately
| Option | What to check | Practical note |
|---|---|---|
| Native PC or console installation | Supported model, system requirements, and preferred input | Use Epic’s device-specific requirements; platform-family support alone does not confirm a particular model. |
| Native mobile installation | Country, storefront route, operating system, and device support | Android and iOS routes differ and can change; check Epic’s live installation guide. |
| Cloud gaming on mobile or computer | Supported region, connection stability, and input device | Epic lists Xbox Cloud Gaming, GeForce NOW, and Amazon Luna. Mouse and keyboard are not supported with Fortnite on mobile through streaming. |
| Cross-play enabled or disabled where a toggle exists | Who can join, mode availability, and queue effects | Epic says disabling it may limit some modes and cross-play lowers queue times. Switch, PC, and mobile lack the in-game disable option. |
| Touch controls or an optional controller | Player preference and exact device compatibility | Epic permits external controllers, keyboards, and microphones, but says it cannot test every device and compatibility is not guaranteed. |
Troubleshoot common cross-play problems
- You cannot find a friend: Search using the person’s Epic display name, verify the request was accepted, and check that both accounts are signed into Fortnite.
- A console player cannot join: Check the applicable cross-play setting—PlayStation in Fortnite’s Account And Privacy settings, Xbox in its cross-network multiplayer setting. The toggle is not available on every platform.
- An account-linking error appears: The platform identity may already be linked to a different Epic account. Sign in to the account that owns the intended Fortnite progress before changing links.
- Progress differs between devices: Epic says separate histories cannot be combined. Decide which history to keep before syncing accounts.
- Party invitations or voice chat do not work: Review Party Joinability, communication permissions, parental controls, and the platform’s own settings.
- Mobile installation or an accessory fails: Confirm the country-specific installation route and device requirements. External-device support is not universal; Epic does not guarantee every controller or peripheral will work.
