What is known about price and availability
No current regional price, stock position, active discount, or seller availability is established here. Digital and physical listings can change, so compare the official store for your region at the time you buy. Do not assume that a price seen in another country, on another date, or from another seller applies to your account.

Which edition should you choose?
Choose Windows PC when control and settings matter most
The PC edition is the most flexible choice if your computer meets at least the minimum specification and you want to change resolution, quality settings, input bindings, or display options. Mouse-and-keyboard aiming is particularly useful for players who prefer quick weapon selection and precise turns. The trade-off is setup: you must check the 64-bit operating-system requirement, free 55 GB, Steam activation, and your graphics hardware before installing.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose PlayStation 4 or Xbox One for a simple console setup
Either console avoids the PC compatibility check and gives you a gamepad-first experience. Reserve the 50 GB installation space specified in Bethesda’s launch guidance before starting the download or disc installation. If you intend to play on a PS5, the PS4 edition is playable there, but the platform listing warns that some PS4 features may not be present; treat that as a compatibility caveat rather than assuming complete feature parity.
Choose Nintendo Switch for portability
Switch is the practical choice when you want to play away from a television or PC. Its port includes the original campaign and downloadable content, along with Arcade mode, multiple difficulty modes, and multiplayer. The developer described a 30-frames-per-second target chosen to provide a stable gameplay target on Switch hardware. That makes portability the central advantage; do not buy it expecting the same visual settings or performance target as a suitably equipped gaming PC.
PC system requirements
The following specifications are the published Bethesda Softworks and Steam requirements from 2016. They are useful for deciding whether an older PC is in the right class, but they are not a promise of a particular frame rate on modern hardware, newer drivers, or every display resolution.

How to interpret the minimum specification
- The processor, graphics card, and memory requirements are a combined baseline. Meeting only one of them does not make a system compliant.
- The graphics entries specify both a GPU model and video-memory capacity. A newer card is not automatically equivalent; compare its real performance and available VRAM with the listed class.
- The 55 GB figure is available storage, not merely the size of a download. Keep additional headroom for the operating system, temporary installation files, patches, and save data.
- The requirements were published in 2016. They do not specify a guaranteed frame rate, resolution, quality preset, or compatibility with every current Windows build.
Windows and Steam-client compatibility
The game’s historical page lists 64-bit Windows 7, 8.1, and 10. The Steam client itself now supports Windows 10 and later, so check Steam’s live client policy before attempting to install on an older operating system. A computer can therefore match the game’s old requirement while still being unable to run the current storefront client.
Install DOOM (2016)
Windows PC through Steam
- Confirm that your PC is running a supported 64-bit Windows configuration, compare the CPU and GPU with the table above, and make at least 55 GB available on the drive where the game will be installed.
- Install or update the Steam client, sign in to the account that owns the game, and complete any required purchase or product-code redemption. Steam activation is required for the PC edition.
- Open Library, select DOOM, choose Install, select the destination drive, and allow Steam to download the game and any required updates.
- Keep the computer connected while Steam validates the installation. A failed or interrupted download can leave an incomplete installation even when the folder appears to exist.
- Launch the game from the Steam library. If the first start offers display or control configuration, choose a conservative resolution and preset first; you can raise settings after confirming stable play.
PlayStation 4 and Xbox One
- Reserve 50 GB of free console storage, the amount specified in Bethesda’s launch guidance for both PS4 and Xbox One.
- For a disc copy, insert the disc and follow the console’s installation prompts. For a digital copy, open the platform store or library, start the download, and leave enough space for updates.
- Allow the installation and updates to finish before judging launch behavior. Online modes require broadband, and a console may need an account sign-in or platform service connection.
- Start with the campaign. You can return to the main menu later for other modes and settings.
Nintendo Switch
- Install the Switch edition from its cartridge or your digital library. The cited material does not establish a single storage number, so check the free-space requirement shown by your regional listing and leave additional room for updates.
- Use handheld, tabletop, or docked mode according to your preference. Connect to broadband if you plan to use multiplayer or other online functions.
- Begin with the campaign and select a difficulty that lets you learn movement and weapon switching. Arcade mode and multiplayer are available after you are comfortable with the basics.
Learn the controls before the combat gets busy
The manual’s default PC bindings give you a useful starting point. Menus or platform-specific layouts can differ, and every action can be remapped if a key or button is uncomfortable.
| Action | Default PC input | Why it matters early |
|---|---|---|
| Move | W, A, S, D | Continuous movement is central to survival; do not treat the game like a cover shooter. |
| Jump and double-jump | Space | Use vertical movement to change distance and avoid attacks. |
| Fire | Mouse 1 | Keep your aim moving with your character rather than standing still to trade damage. |
| Weapon mod | Mouse 2 | Weapon modifications add an alternate firing option; learn each weapon’s mod before a crowded fight. |
| Switch weapon or open weapon wheel | Q | Changing weapons quickly is safer than waiting for one magazine or weapon type to solve every encounter. |
| Melee or glory kill | F | Close-range attacks and glory-kill opportunities are part of the intended combat loop. |
| Chainsaw | G | Keep the binding available so you do not have to search for it during a fight. |
| BFG | T | Reserve the shortcut for situations in which you deliberately want to use that weapon. |
How the combat loop works
Move instead of taking cover
Steam’s official description states: “There is no taking cover or stopping to regenerate health as you beat back Hell’s raging demon hordes.” The practical lesson is to keep changing position, use jumps and double-jumps, and avoid standing in one lane while enemies surround you. Learn the shape of each arena and leave yourself a route before the fight becomes crowded.

Switch weapons and use modifications
DOOM’s campaign expects you to use more than one gun. The Q binding lets you change weapons or open the weapon wheel, while Mouse 2 activates a weapon mod. During your first encounters, deliberately try the standard fire and modded fire of each new weapon so the choice is familiar before you need it under pressure. Weapon variety is not an optional advanced technique; it is one of the systems the campaign teaches.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Use melee and glory-kill opportunities deliberately
F is the default melee/glory-kill input. Close-range aggression is built into the game’s rhythm alongside shooting, movement, upgrades, and weapon mods. Move in only when the opening is clear, then immediately resume movement instead of remaining stationary after the animation.
Upgrade as you learn
The campaign combines weapons with upgrades. When an upgrade choice appears, read its description and choose the option that complements the way you are currently playing rather than trying to unlock everything at once. If a fight exposes a weakness—such as poor range control or slow weapon changes—use the next upgrade or practice session to address that specific problem.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
A practical first-session routine
- Spend the opening minutes confirming movement, jump, fire, weapon switching, and weapon-mod inputs.
- Enter each encounter while already moving, and keep more than one escape direction available.
- When a new weapon appears, test its normal shot and mod in a safe moment instead of waiting for a large arena battle.
- Practice melee and glory-kill timing without abandoning your movement habit.
- After the campaign basics feel natural, increase difficulty or move to another mode rather than changing every control at once.
Modes beyond the campaign
Single-player campaign
Start here even if multiplayer is your main interest. The campaign teaches movement, weapon switching, mods, upgrades, melee, and the aggressive pacing that defines the game. It also lets you adjust difficulty and controls without having to coordinate with other players.
Arcade mode
Arcade mode is available in the Switch edition and is part of the game’s broader mode set. It is useful once you understand the basic weapons and movement, because the emphasis is on replaying combat challenges rather than discovering the systems for the first time.

SnapMap
Steam describes SnapMap as a powerful, easy-to-use game and level editor for building and sharing maps and gameplay logic, with experiences available on every platform. Broadband is required to use its online sharing functions. Begin with a small map, test it locally, and only then add more complex logic so that a failed connection does not obscure a design problem.
Troubleshooting common setup problems
The game will not install on PC
- Recheck that the installation drive has at least 55 GB free, plus practical headroom for temporary files and updates.
- Confirm that Steam is installed, current, and signed in to the account that owns DOOM. The PC edition requires Steam activation.
- Verify that Windows is 64-bit. A 32-bit installation does not satisfy the published requirement.
- Compare both processor and graphics card against the minimum table; matching the RAM alone is not sufficient.
The game launches but runs poorly
- Remember that the 2016 requirements are a baseline, not a frame-rate guarantee. Resolution, quality settings, display refresh rate, drivers, background software, and newer operating-system behavior all affect results.
- Start with a lower resolution or quality preset, close unnecessary applications, and test one change at a time so you know which setting helped.
- Make sure the display cable is connected to the intended graphics adapter on a desktop PC and that the game is using the dedicated GPU when the system has both integrated and discrete graphics.
Multiplayer or SnapMap will not connect
- Confirm that broadband is working on the platform and that the game has completed all updates.
- Sign in to the required platform account and check the platform’s current service-status page if other online games are also failing.
- If the campaign works but online modes do not, treat it as a network or service issue rather than an indication that the local installation is corrupt.
The controls feel wrong
Restore the default control layout to confirm that the input device is detected, then remap one action at a time. On PC, verify the WASD, Space, Mouse 1, Mouse 2, Q, F, G, and T bindings before changing sensitivity or advanced options. On consoles and Switch, reconnect or re-pair the controller and test it in the system menu.
A PS5 feature is missing
The PS4 listing explicitly warns that some PS4 features may be absent when the game is played on PS5. If the campaign launches but a PS4-specific function is unavailable, that can be an expected compatibility limitation rather than an installation failure.
The Switch version looks or feels different from videos of the PC edition
The Switch port was tailored for its hardware and targeted 30 frames per second. Differences in image quality, resolution, and frame-rate target are therefore part of the platform design. Choose docked or handheld mode and adjust display settings for comfort instead of expecting PC-equivalent output.
Content and play-safety guidance
Steam’s mature-content description lists blood and gore, violence, language, and horror. The manual recommends playing in a well-lit room, avoiding play when tired, taking 10–15 minute breaks per hour, and stopping if seizure-related symptoms occur. Follow the manual’s warning and seek appropriate medical advice if symptoms persist or you are concerned about photosensitive reactions.
Quick Recap
A short decision checklist
- PC: choose it when your system meets the published CPU, GPU, RAM, and storage requirements and you want settings flexibility or mouse-and-keyboard control.
- PS4: choose it for a conventional PlayStation experience, while remembering the PS5 feature caveat if you plan to use backward compatibility.
- Xbox One: choose it when your existing Xbox setup and controller are the priority; reserve the published 50 GB installation space.
- Switch: choose it when portable play and included campaign/DLC content matter most, accepting the 30-frames-per-second target.
- Any platform: confirm the current regional price, edition contents, available storage, and online-service status immediately before buying.
